The Pentagon recently requested its largest-ever investment in innovation and next-generation weapons as the United States eyes increased military capabilities by its great-power competitors, China and Russia. The request includes funds to build up the military’s newest service, be it aircraft, tanks, ships, missiles and so on. @@MrFlatage I know this is late, but go look up High Energy Laser with Integrated Optical-dazzler and Surveillance (HELIOS) developed by Lockheed Martin, this weapon system is deployed on the USS Portland, if you had any common sense, instead of writing this ridiculous statement you could have looked it up yourself. Also a Laser weapon system had been on the USS Ponce since 2014, and was deployed with it until it was decommissioned in 2017.

The Future Surface Combatant (FSC or LCS{Large Surface Combatant} or DDG[X]{Next Generation Destroyer}) is meant to replace both the Ticonderoga Class Cruisers and the older of the Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers. It will be bigger than the Arleigh Burke Class with a new design hull and more power. It will have the same power and propulsion system as the Zumwalt Class Destroyers. It will also be able to carry more and bigger Missiles and support large energy intensive weapons like Lasers and Rail Guns.

As the saying goes, in order to be peaceful you must be capable of both great violence and great restraint. If you are not capable of violence, you are not peaceful, you are weak and afraid. To the OP, pilots already are a hindrance in jets. The G-force limit is there because of the pilot, not the fighter. However, having a human brain in the aircraft still provides a number of powerful advantages. Like, being immune to hacking or GPS spoofing.

Well, China's hypersonic recon drone/missile, which is kinda similar to the x-51, isn't that far behind. But in terms of everything else, China's still playing catch-up to what the US has now. The J-20 only barely surpasses the F-22 in some fields, while still behind it in otjersw and the F-22 has been in active service for aaaages while the J-20 is only barely starting to get service-ready

@@Alex-dr6sv only in some fields. The F-22 beats the J-20 in stealth for sure, and probably in maueverability and thrust/weight ratio as well. But the J-20 certainly wins in terms of combat range and loiter time. J-20s radar capabilities and overall sensor suite seems to be slightly better than the F-22s too (though not even close to the F-35). That's mostly probably just die to the advanced in computation and the fact that the J-20 probably simply has room for a slightly larger radar antenna tho. The F-22 is much older than the J-20, but both a BVR and "knife fight" engagement the F-22 probably still beats the J-20. That being said, it's larger size and fuel capacity make the J-20 less reliant on air-air refueling (not that that's an issue for the US, but it would be for china), a d its better sensors might make it a more valuable asset for intelligence gathering than the F-22. That being said, the F-35 MORE than makes up for the F-22s shortcomings, with its sensor suite putting both the F-22 and the J-20s to shame, and its stealth making it even more of a ghost than the F-22 when it wants to be. The f-35 might be lackluster in a knife fight situation, but odds are no f-35 will ever end up in that situation. But EVEN IF, for a moment, we entertain the Chinese fantasy that the J-20 is a match for the F-20 and F-35 (which it isn't), there's still the weight of numbers. There's probably still more f-22s than there are J-20s. And F-35s are rolling off the assembly lines to all of the US allies faster and faster by the week
