He technically did neither of them, there's always a "What if". like could you imagine they stopped the volk vs ortega fight when ortega got that choke in? No one expected him to just get out of it, but he did. So there's always a chance they can escape a submission. Bad stoppage either way.

In the Yan V Sterling fight, you can’t do a no contest. Issue if that if situations like that ended with an NC it would incentivize champs to do things illegally to retain titles. “Oh, my opponent won the first 4 rounds? *Knee to the head* Yay, I don’t lose my belt!”

I've got a surprisingly hot take on the Aljo-Yan take according to twitter, but I think Aljo was not faking his response to the knee. One of the first things you are taught in medical psychology is to notice signs of concussion, and Aljo's eyes definitely looked extremely dazed. He did seem to be genuinely confused as well and I agree with the stoppage. My problem with the fight is that I don't think championships should be gained via disqualification. I think Yan should have been stripped without giving the title to Aljo. I find it different than Jones vs Cormier 2, because DC was defending his title before Jones regained it and was stripped due to his failed drug test.
@ashervirin96982 жыл бұрын

Nah man, I agree that Yan should have been DQ'd, he threw an illegal blow, blatantly. There's no denying that. That really happened, and there's no excusing it. But Aljo definitely played it up and jumped on an opportunity to get an asterisk win in a fight he was getting embarrassingly obliterated in, I mean that was one of the least competitive title fights in recent history. Yan was flinging him around like a stuffed animal, landing nearly everything he threw, and defending absolutely everything Aljo was throwing with ease, Aljo was over his head and trying desperately to not engage, and Yan got frustrated and lost his cool. I can completely understand why Yan was frustrated, but he's supposed to be a professional, he should have shown more restraint.

Because there are no unified rules and every state/commision has different set of rules. Also knowing the rules doesn't suddenly make you a super-obedient machine that can process every thing in a split of a second. People pretending like Yan did that on purpose, like "hey I am winning a fight, let's do something illegal intentionally so I can lose it". Yeah, he threw a knee with n intention of throwing a knee, but his thought process wasn''t like "this is illegal, let's do it", there is a huge difference. He reacted instinctively. Also that Diego situation, he lost me as a fan right there, from a warrior everyone respected to a coward without a moral code. If you can't continue then you can't continue. We've seen so many fights stopped because of low blows, eye-pokes, etc. But faking it, pretending like you can't continue, taking the easy way out, no honor in that. And then they will upload a video and say they are warriors who go with a shield or on it. It's so obvious when they are faking it, be it Sterling, Diego, Weidman, etc. the same way it's obvious when they are not faking it (Belal, Kharitonov, to name a few). Why did Yan lose a fight because he threw an illegal knee, but Kharitonov did not win a fight when Mitrione kicked him in the balls? Until we have unified rules that will apply in all of MMA, every promotion and every state, fighters will fake it and people will call them on it.

Please stop it with the "latter rounds Diaz", Nate went past the third only 3 times in his career and lost all of those fights. One against Benson Henderson (50-43 and 50-45 x2), one versus Conor where he dropped a majority decision (he didn't do much in the forth and fifth in terms of inflicted damage) and one against Leon when he caught him in the last minute after getting dominated for the whole contest, that straight landed perfectly but it wasn't the result of suffocating cardio pressure, it has more to do with being "a good strike". Nate's durable as hell and has good cardio, but his pace isn't intense (by intense I mean guys like Colby or Volkanovski), the last time he dominated with his cardio was against Pettis 3 years ago (who's not known for his endurance during this past-his-prime part of his career).

it wasn't just fans who where OK with the kick many fighters and former fighters where fine with it as well. Also the kick can be defended as shown by a number of fighters including Izzy who ether deflect it or avoid it. It is really dangerous to those who fight in a boxing stance (when they turn their legs as a they throw certain punches) and karat/TKD style fighters who stand side ways. Personally i dont care much whether its ban or not, but there are many other moves that cause injures, some more severe than the oblique kick, more frequently at a higher rate and if we start banning moves that cause injures then we will have to band every move because all of them do that ( all can cause sever injure) Never forget Micheal's eye was due to a head kick should we ban head kicks ... they can cause brain damage too.

I never saw the Romero vs Kennedy fight as that unfair. Sure it was controversial, but Yoel was dominating, and Tim’s big moment of note came after hooking the glove and landing giant shots at the end of the round due to illegal glove grabbing. Not justifying Yoel‘s extra time on the stool, but had that foul been caught there is a very good chance that time would’ve been given to Yoel to recover, more time than the extra 30sec he spent on his stool. So rules were broken by both fighters which makes it controversial, but I really didn’t see Tim as the big victim here. Tim is an awesome fighter, but the fact that the reason Yoel was hurt was due to an illegal move by Tim negates Tims potential victory, especially that it was his only notable moment in the fight the offered real damage, because other than that Yoel was taking it to Tim.
@KeefeL2 жыл бұрын
I agree, except glove hooking doesn't give you recovery time, but points taken off (either way, dirty ass Timmy)
@alugificator2 жыл бұрын
Happen to agree. Both fighters got away with some shit, which I guess cancel itself out, and Yoel still ends up the victor.
@whitneyallen92372 жыл бұрын
@@KeefeL My understanding, which could be wrong, but I believe I’m right, is hooking the glove is not an automatic five minutes like a low blow or an eye poke, but it is at the referees discretion to halt the fight and give the fighter that was affected by the illegal move some recovery time, which would likely give him more than 30 seconds to recover. Either way, I think we’re both on the same page.

@@whitneyallen9237 no, it is a warning OR a point deducted by the referee's previous warning or discretion. A hooked glove does not warrant a resting time, only a point deduction (which is arguably worse, considering it would be caught immediately)

How do you get vilified for eating an illegal knee to the face? That shit is crazy There's no way he should've fought after that
@neonbrigador39282 жыл бұрын
Why shoulders fighters be expected to continue from flying knees or knees to the body in that case? ONE allows knees on a downed opponent and they’ve not had any issues to fighter safety. It prevents timidity and stalling which Aljamain was doing by taking that knee.
@jonamaximiliankao92622 жыл бұрын
@@neonbrigador3928 It still is an illegal blow. Whether the rule is stupid or not is irrelevant. He would've fought after being wounded by a strike he didn't see coming, was absolutely unprepared for and that he had no defensive measures for. It's like letting someone get in a powerful, accurate and completely unexpected powerful hook on the chin after the bell and saying he should've kept fighting. It's ridiculous.
