A couple of things. Don't ride on overinflated tires either. Don't over-torque your bolts. Buy a torque wrench if you plan to do anything that entails tightening a bolt.

Regarding going clipless, don't adjust the pedals to the tightest setting (like I did) out of fear of coming out of the pedal all the time. It will make it very difficult to get the shoe free!

06:15 For traffic, Sunday afternoon-evening is the underestimated worst time of the week to ride. People are grumpy that the weekend is over and tend to do regrettable things.

EAT. It seems like most are bashful about getting out a snack. So when I ride with others, they bonk a couple hours in. Keep fueled. Practice at it on long rides. Make it a habit. Set alarms if you have to. You won’t believe how far you can go with constant intake of carbs.

I was also teaching beginners at the collegiate level. I think an important aspect, which I also learned, is to think as a group when on a group ride. This was especially important for those who had lots of experience cycling alone. For example, making sure that the whole group passes an intersection as a unit, etc.

The #1 MUST KNOW Tip For Beginner Road Cyclists: clip-less pedals are ACTUALLY clip-in pedals
@madyogi6164

7:00 I ride SPD-SL-s since 2007 and still didn't get the answer. How are they clip-less, when one directly clips into the pedals? Same logic as for cordless electric kettle?
@roadcc
@roadcc 6 ай бұрын
Heya, they're referred to as clipless as they don't have the strap (AKA clip) that goes around the shoe
@madyogi6164
@madyogi6164 6 ай бұрын
@@roadcc Sure I remember those. I just look at them all as "clip-in". What makes the difference is just "the way / form" of (still) being clipped in. The straps also bring back from my ancient history, funny incident some fella had, right when he stopped. He was upright for like 2 seconds, then some struggle and wiggling, and then... like in a slow motion... @#$@

Number 1: buy a cheap second hand bike until,you decide you are in for the long haul. Number 2: do not buy a bike designed for pro rider if you do not have the fitness and importantly the flexibility. Go see a physio to do some basic flexibility and strength tests or get a bike fit which will assess those things - saves you a lot of preventable pain.

I understand where the name "clipless" pedals came from, when are they going to change the name to "clip-in" pedals after all you're clipping into the pedal. Another feature that many presenters don't mention is that basic flat pedals; other than Mountain biking pedals with the little spikes, will allow your foot to slide off the pedal or your foot will move away from having your ball of your foot in the centre of the pedal. Enufsaid.

Number 5 should be "Don't ride with under inflated OR over inflated tires." Based on the bike weight + rider weight accompanied by the tire size, there's a tire pressure for each and every setup. Too many people over inflate their tires these days. It goes both ways.
