I just thought of a worse one. Getting 240% in Arkham knight gives you this really cool black and gold suit… that can only be used in free play not in story because you beat the game and ng+ plus season of infamy twice

Seeing Yoshi in Super Mario 64 felt more like an Easter egg rather than a reward. It didn't help that he gave you a bunch of livess you didn't even need at the end of the game you just completed.

To be fair, almost all rewards for 100% are terrible/useless since once you get them there's nothing left to do in your game. So even if it's a weapon or some other usable item, there's still no point. The only ones that are any good are ones you can carry through to an NG+ mode, or to multiplayer and there's not many of of those.

Yeah I would say one of the best rewards you get in jak 3 for getting a certain amount of precursor orbs is that it gives you the ability to fly easily across the world

Kingdom Hearts 2 is a great example of this. To unlock the ability to glide you had to explore every single piece of the entire game. Once you had glide there was nowhere to go and nothing to do.

Super Mario Sunshine needs to be in the list because i did the hard work and saving the town and all I get is a postcard whenever I complete it, even worst is that they didn’t apologize for blaming Mario thinking he made a mess when its Bowser Junior’s fault, what an a-hole

The stud fountain was also in Lego Marvel Heroes 2, appearing in the trophy room upon 100% completion. The 100% reward in Lego Marvel Heroes 1 was old lady Aunt May who's only attack is wacking people with her purse

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum is getting to stomp around the city as Reptar in Rugrats PS1. First game I ever got 100% and little 9ish year old me was very happy.

I liked Super Mario 64’s 100% completion scene. It was genuinely heartwarming to see Mario briefly reunite with a longtime friend, and the thank you message from Nintendo was just the cherry on top of a thoroughly incredible game. Plus Mario 64’s replay value is really high even today, and a game you can come back to and play again and again for years to come more than makes up for lack of a real “reward”.

Sly 4 Thieves in Time also got a 20-second sequel bait cutscene that you unlocked after completing the game 100%. We never got that sequel as Sucker Punch moved on to make the Infamous series and Ghost of Tsushima and Sanzaru Games, who made Sly 4, got bought by Meta (Facebook) in 2020, 7 years after the game came out. Super Mario Sunshine also has a crap reward as completing it 100% results in... a group picture at the end of the credits. All that trouble with getting every blue coin and beating those hard bonus levels just for a worthless group picture. Final Fantasy 10-2 has one of the worst rewards for completing 100%... it gives some form of closure to the ''main narrative'' with an awkward scene between Tidus and Yuna trying to prove the former is fully human after being ''resurrected'' by the Faith. The fact you need at least 2 full playthroughs to get such a scene caps off in some infamous words found online: ''100% completion? I have 2 words for you: KZbin and Fuck That!''

Super Mario Odyssey's 100% completion reward was insulting for me because all you do is go back to the Mushroom Kingdom after collecting 999 Moons in the game and throw your hat at the giant hat on Peach's Castle and you just get the original fanfare with fireworks.

Hestu's gift is based on an actual good luck charm in Japan. It would have been nice if it at least appeared on Link's desk in his house in Heteno village. At least in Sonic Rush Adventure your reward for getting 100% is Sonic's face carved on the side of a mountain.

You don’t need to collect the banana coins for 101% in DK64. All you need are the golden bananas, Boss keys, battle crowns, Nintendo and Rareware coins, and banana medals. You technically don’t even need every regular banana. You just need enough to get every banana medal.

The Godfather Game on ps2, after getting 100% by taking over everything in the game you get a final cutscene and named Don of NY, get infinite ammo on your guns and $1 million which is all useless since there’s nothing left to buy or do at that point. Games fun and definitely would want a remaster/remake but that reward sucked

In Dragon Quest 8, completing the bestiary 100% will net you the Gospel Ring, which would create a continuous 'holy water' effect for as long as you wear it. The problem is that you would need to beat the game and also play the extra post-game area in order to get all baddies and bosses. By the time you do so, you will be so over-powered, you would even need this item.

For me, it was DEFINITELY Breath of the Wild's reward of getting all the Korok Seeds. Glad I had the foresight to avoid getting all of them in Tears of the Kingdom, opting to only gather whatever was necessary for all the expansions for the melee weapon, bow, and shield slots.

Nothing,absolutely nothing, beats ending E of NieR. Without spoilers I'll just say getting it better be the last thing you want to do in the game cause you need to permanently delete your 100% save file to see it once. And sure, you can and probably will cheat and make an external copy, but the only legitimate way to get your "reward," is to erase all of your hard work and progress.

I would have to say the 1st Rayman game has the worst 100% reward. 100% gives you the privielge and honor to fight the final boss and finish the game. That means 100% is a REQUIREMENT. Anyones who has ever played Rayman 1 knows how frustrating it is to do that

Last year I went back to replay the Sly Cooper trilogy (one of my all time favorites to play as a kid) and try to 100% all of them. Playing through them, 1 and 3 were nightmarish to 100 (2 wasn't too bad without the added challenges, just bottles.) Then after beating 1, you get all this awesome stuff such as commercials for the game, behind the scenes footage of them making the game and bonus pictures. Surely after beating 2 and 3, you would get something just as sweet right? Wrong, for completing the other 2 you get absolutely NOTHING but a little 100% on your title menu. Kinda of an insult to a huge Sly Cooper fan :/

Of these games I played We Love Katamari, Pokemon red, Super Mario 64, DK 64 and LEGO Star wars 1 or 2 on the PS2. I got 100% completion of all except for WE love Katamari. First, I wasn't expecting much from any, but I wanted to do it anyway. The Katamari rose star I don't care for. I probably got around 30,000. All games were fun. The LEGO star wars game is annoying with that stud fountain at the end. Even if Pokemon you get a diploma, I can say that I caught them all. I don't know why I feel good about that. Super Mario 64 was the most fun for getting all 120 stars because why not get all the stars.

SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom. What do you get? Every character singing the theme song. And in the original, it’s not even the show song. In Rehydrated, it actually does use the show song. Not to mention you can only fight SpongeBot SteelPants once per save.

Honestly, the BEST reward I got for completing a game in probably Shrek 2. Once you complete the game 100%, you unlock the battle arena. Other games, take notes from Shrek 2 😂

I only could hear about this but Paper Mario sticker star's sticker galery and amost all of the Paper Mario's end credit's end, for example: in Paper Mario The Origami King if you do everithing and beat the final boss again and watch the end credits (again) then at the end the origami craftsman will put thiny versions of Olivia and Only (or whatewer his name is) in their trone on top of the thiny origami casle.

Botw and TOTK reward for 1000 koroks 🤢🤮🤬. Remember times when i got special technique for 100 maiamas in albw or infinite allowance in twilight for 60 poes. So as 50 rabids, 20 x 3 gems from PH or all masks in Majora. Botw and Totk neber pissed me so hard in the end.

My Top 2: Dragon Quest VIII - Gospel Ring. Given to you for completing the monster compendium (meaning younhave to kill at least one of each monster), it has no stats but gives the benefit of removing random encounters while wearing it. Problem is the compendium includes the final boss as well as missable side quest and post game enemies. So once you get it there's no point for it, there's nothing left to do. Ni no Kuni - Car. Given to you once you finish all side quests, Stamp Card rewards, and Soloseum battles (including the hard as balls final one), it lets you run around the world map at 3x Speed in the car. Again, theres no point for it sonce you needed to do everything in the game anyway. But to make it worse, MUCH earlier than you can get the Car you get the ability to fly via story. Which is infinitely faster, avoids encounters, and not restricted by being stuck on the ground or unable to go over mountains. Both items technically do something, but with the amount needed to get them they basically dont do anything.

Thing is with some of these and other 100% completion "rewards" that feel inadequate... What exactly would there be left to provide that would make it worthwhile? Generally when you've 100% completed a game (especially a single player game) you then put the game away, or at least then focus on messing around in the game or entering new game plus. Any reward you get is usually a bit pointless because theres little else to do in the game anyway. In other cases the reward you get for 100% completion is literally everything you unlock along the way. Spiderman 2 is a great example of that. You get nothing for 100% completion directly, but in achieving it you unlock all the suits etc. that you can then play about with.

Spyro Enter the Dragonfly and A Hero’s Tail both have disappointing endings for completing to 100%. I didn’t complete either lol, I just saw them on KZbin, but the one for ETD is just a cutscene with them all saying “everything’s back to normal!” And then Spyro winks at the camera. Hero’s tail, the elder dragons literally watch the game credits and comment on them, which I honestly find kind of funny. 😄

IMajoPlays the super mario sunshine 100% bonus was the hawaiian shirt or was it the sun glasses, either way you get sun glasses or the shirt for just beating the game and than you get the other item with 100% it. Not much better than a post card but atleast include it next time please.

It has to be said, Hestu's gift v1 was cruel on the part of the game makers. V2 in the sequel is 100% on the players who didn't learn from the first run round the gauntlet.

imo, you should've replaced mario 64 with sunshine. Mario 64 giving you 100 lives is at least useful since it allows the player to play different stages without having the risk of getting a game over, as for sunshine, wtf am i suppose to do with a postcard? I can't even print it like the pokemon diploma

Crash 4 isn't too different from Crash 2 in that regard. 100% completion only gave you an extra cutscene where they blew up Cortex's space station. Stuff like that thankfully took me down the path of hardly ever doing games to 100%, unless it was a rare title that I really enjoyed playing.

Super Mario Sunshine's 100% reward is still the biggest fuck you I've ever received in a video game. It is difficult and frustrsting to accomplish and takes forever. And all I get is a postcard in the credits with all the characters gathering for a picture? After all that frustration and hard work? Such bullshit.

You should've mentioned "Gex". That game basically did what "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" did, but SO MUCH WORSE!!! The message (which is just a scrolling wall of text BTW) is not only long, but actually INSULTING the player for their achievement in multiple ways! Also "Super Mario Sunshine" deserves to be on the list over "Super Mario 64" mainly because unlike "64", "Sunshine" forces you to do downright IRRITATING things to 100% and is a buggy game at its core making so many more things harder than they have any right to be...all for a lousy group photo...MUCH worse than a conversation with a beloved character you had no way of knowing was even in the game before then. Oh, and "Donkey Kong 64" doesn't just give 1 extra percent, it actually gives you an amusing outtakes reel after beating King K. Rool once more.
