ArmorOfGod Agreed. This is a Pacifist run, not a Savior run. The more debatable one is if you spawn an enemy that you know will die (eg the wiggler early on in the music block or the koopa in the hidden block.) In that case, my vote is to have to take a death and try to complete the level without spawning the enemy so the run doesn't end because of RNG.

Mario killing himself on purpose should not be allowed. He's become his own worst enemy. So if stuck somewhere and there is a spike to kill himself, you must wait for time to run out or restart. Jumping into a pit on purpose is fine, as long as it's not in Lava or a high sky stage, same with enemies into pits.

The idea of a pacifist run isn’t to save the enemies from death, but to spare all enemies. Thus letting an enemy walk into a pit/ lava is fine, however, kicking an enemy to it’s death is another story.

Agreed! Empty shells are _not_ enemies. Nor are cannonballs. However, bullets _are_ (they have eyes and arms and are named Bill). The flag-pole does not count, but the axe does. Here's my take on the pacifism conduct. I think these rules are logically consistent and still keep the game interesting: [1] Falling into a pit is death. [2] Drowning in lava as Mario touches the axe is death. [3] Popping out of existence as Mario touches the flag-pole / card-box / goal-gate is _not_ death. [4] Things that are obviously death are death (obviously). [5] You violate pacifism if, and only if, Mario's action or presence hastens the death of an enemy. [a] Does _not_ count: Observing as a Goomba walks into a pit. [b] Does _not_ count: Stunning a Galoomba that's already falling into a pit. [c] Does count: Flattening a Goomba that's already falling into a pit. [d] Does count: Starting a level that immediately drops a Thwomp into a pit. [6] A Bullet Bill is an enemy. Cannon balls and empty shells are not, nor is Yoshi. (He sacrifices his life willingly for the cause.) [7] If an enemy dies off-screen, it still dies. Going through a door before it actually falls does not stop that. [8] Causing a doomed enemy to appear counts as causing their death. (That's population ethics.) [9] Spawning an enemy by scrolling the screen does _not_ count as causing them to appear. [10] Despawning an enemy by scrolling the screen does _not_ count as causing their death. [11] Ghosts and Dry Bones are already dead. Therefore, Mario cannot be the cause of their death. [12] If you violate pacifism, Mario needs to die as quickly as possible (to atone for his crime). [a] If you violate pacifism and then touch a checkpoint without dying in between, you need to restart the level. [b] If you violate pacifism and then finish a level without dying in between, you forfeit the run. [c] That includes touching the axe with any enemies on screen. Be careful!

Michiel Helvensteijn i disagree with the 2nd rule I think it is legit to touch the pole/axe as long as noone is standing on the bridge because it would cause a lot of trouble with the 6th rule if you touch the pole/axe every enemy on the map dies. But the rest of those rules are pretty nice

Looking at the animation, I observe that touching a flag-pole causes enemies to just pop out of existence, which I will allow. However, touching an axe clearly causes all enemies on screen to die in agony as they fall into lava, and I cannot bring myself to ignore that. :-/

@Taktisch: Yes, I did consider that point. However, it would open the floodgates to too many judgment calls. What if an enemy falls into a pit but their top half is still visible as you leave the screen? Or if a pixel is still visible? We cannot see the bottom of the pit... maybe there's a trampoline down there? No, I'm afraid I have to go with common sense here. If Luigi touches an enemy, he loses his cape and drowns with them.

You should do a double super expert run - You do one super expert run, and once you do that you start another run with the remaining lives. For example, if you complete one with 43 lives left you have 43 lives in the second run.

It's really not that hard. Okay, here's the rules, and let me know if you think otherwise: Squishing a Goomba - Murder Hitting a Koopa to get a shell - Okay, as long as you don't kill him after he loses the shell. Knocking enemies off screen with jump - Unless it's Lava, they could potentially survive. Fights with Bowser and Bowser Jr - It's fine to defeat them by any means as they always return. Using Pow Blocks to kill things - No Using the fire flower on anything other then Bowser and Bowser Jr (or other of his kin) No Bullet Bills - No, but tiny round bullets - it's fine to hop on those. Wrench throwers - Maybe. Try to avoid, but he seems to just go under and come back out again. Lakitu - No Invincibility Star - Cant use on anything but tiny bullets, bowser, bowser jr Any enemy walking into lava, off screen, etc - counts as suicide killing Thwomps using a Shellmet - NO Ba'ombs - they start to detonate on their own when Mario approaches. Not his fault, BUT he should ...wait until it begins to light, not jump on them and grab them immediately. Any Shell or Spikey not moving - totally fine Mario killing himself on purpose - Since Mario has become his own worst enemy, so NO. Dry Bones - Fine to jump on, but not to destroy with cape / tail. Enemies in Clown Cars - fine to defeat the clown cars, enemies may fall if there is no lava Yoshi: abandoning Yoshi is fine, unless again you're dumping him in Lava. No eating enemies. Ghosts: are already dead, plus you're not banishing them unless if you have invincibility anyway. Boss fights other then Bowser and Bowser Jr - No, probably not. Wigglers - Fine, unless you're hitting them with the invincibility star. * I would consider the dead angry wiggler in the blocks, a matter of accident * Kamek - He is another specific character who returns like Bowser, plus a Wizard, defeat him is fine. Unintentional mass murder spree caused by kicking a shell may be deemed an accident, if it is not done on purpose and the enemies are off screen. Knocking a shell by accident into a big line of Koopas right next to it, while the player did it on accident, realistically speaking, Mario did it on purpose, would not be okay. Activating Mechanisms like making cannons or platforms rise up to take out Muchers - okay if done on accident, or you don't know what you're doing, but after the first try, would count as intentional killing of the munchers. Stage clears: enemies turning into 1ups because of the block or goal post is fine, but using the Axe to defeat anything other then Bowser and Bowser Jr is NOT okay. The game requires the Axe, but realisticly, it's more like Mario is insisting on doing it before he's willing to move on, so it IS his fault. The Block / Goal is not his fault, unless the Axe bridge is not over Lava and they are just falling off the screen, they'll be fine. If you really want to ban stuff falling off screen, then ONLY in High Sky Stages. I can't think of anything else. Is that comprehensive enough for all of you? WELL, IS IT! hahaha

So killing a Ghost is fine but not dry bones who are walking dead things? Also, while the Axe may act like a Pow, Mario is unable to exit the stage unless he throws down the Axe. He's locked inside the castle forever till he does so. If you watch, it opens on it's own before he gets there and only after the Axe falls. I'm personally fine with him using it. But! if you want to get picky, in all Super Mario bros castle levels, Mario blows up the castle after clearing the stage and well... That really isn't a pacifist thing to do now is it? So I suggest that either, throwing down the axe doesn't matter or he has to skip EVERY super mario castle stage. This would be better for him because he's not forced to avoid EVERY enemy just to find out at the end he has to skip because he brought a living koopa shell to the finish line and is forced to wait out the timer because suicide in lava is against the "rules". Japanese kaizo creators call midair shell jumps TAS jumps because they're very difficult to do reliably in real time.

TAS stands for the same exact thing in Japan. Levels with frame-perfect tricks are often called "TAS levels" to indicate the level of skill required to beat them. I.e they look like they require TAS. And like mentioned midair shell jumps are referred to as TAS Jumps, and many other techniques also include the moniker, like the TAS throw for example.

No, an enemy walking or falling off the edge is not killing them. They just respawn :) Edit: to clarify, the killing of an enemy must result in points. Kicking an enemy is points yes, but that doesn’t kill them, and an enemy falling into a pit gives you no points. Thus, kicking or dropping an enemy into a pit does not negate a pacifist run.

I have an idea for a new series challenge. You should try to clear all stages that you've given up before. And maybe call it: 100% clear challenge, or something like that!! I thought about some rules for a Pacifist Challenge: During the stage if you kill an enemy, you have to skip and take a life for every enemy killed. If you end the stage and it kills many enemies, you have to take a life for every single one of them in the next stage. I think this way is better than to start all over. And... I don't think it counts. LOL!!

My personal idea for your pacifist run would be to set the rules as such: No forcing organisms out of wherever they are to their deaths (Say, no hitting the item box and letting the koopa inside go into lava. You have to dodge the box or save the koopa.) No killing organisms normally. No dropping them into pits. No axing them into the lava unless said enemy is Bowser. No flagpoling them to death. Note: Shell helmets aren't considered to be living but Yoshis are. Also, living organisms that spawn and die without YOUR interference aren't considered under Pacifist Run casualties. As for accidentally killing any organism before or after reaching the level end, five lives will be deducted in the next stage. If you have less than five lives and said stage where you killed any organism was the last stage, the Pacifist Run is considered a failure. I might have missed some. Please mention if so. Plus, I do NOT recommend Genocide. Usually, some organisms are impossible to kill in stages before continuing. Thus, to get 6 levels in 100 lives where all organisms can be killed is near impossible, even under the assumption that every stage only takes 1 life.

The pacifist run to end all would be that an enemy cannot die in a game that you're in under any circumstances. I think you would run out of lives skipping levels in complete honesty but that would allow beating a pacifist run without having an asterisk next to it saying enemies died after completing the stage.

You touched the goomba before he he’ll to the pit, may not seem like a big deal since logic may suggest that the goomba would have fallen either way into the abyss. However!!! Let’s say the goomba was replaced with a human! The human, a.k.a. “Goomba” would have suicided at his own will, but because YOU ENABLED the human to go through with his actions by touching/nudging/making contact, etc. whatever the case is, YOU RYU SEALED THE human’s, a.k.a. “GOOMBA’S” FATE, that being it’s life ambitions to suicide, there by making you a FULL BLOWN KILLER!!! Simply because YOU CHOSE to “bounce” on the goomba’s round as head to your benefit. Had the goomba remained on the spike ledge after such an assault committed against it, then you sir would have not been to blame for assisting the goomba. However you did abuse it by bouncing on its head, as I’m sure other living beings will experience through Mario’s actions. As you can tell, Ryu you are walking on thin ice here to call a pacifist run. RYU was faced with THE OPORTUNITY to REDO the “short stage,” when the flag poles were literally feet from the goomba, yet he chose to end it all, just as he helped the goomba to end IT all. Ryu chose to end the goomba’s life and DID NOT CHOOSE to REDO, when RYU KNEW FULL WELL the stage at hand would take NO TIME AT ALL TO COMPLETE. The new attempt may have very well kept the goomba alive!!! Sure it may seem like the goomba may have gotten up and walked off anyway, however with the goomba on its back and enough time for Mario to touch the flag pole there would be no need for the goomba to die. MARIO WOULD END THE STAGE, THERE BY PREVENTING THE GOOMBA’S DEATH ALTOGETHER!!! To say you did not assist in the goomba’s death, is preposterous and I have to say SURLEY YOU JEST SIR!!! Jokes aside, I do like me a killing and would very much like to see a genocide run muahaha HAHAHAHA😈

No, thats not right because of how mario's world works. When Mario jumps on a goomba, the goomba still has a little boost from Walking before. However, it also slows the goomba down when Mario jumps on bis head. If the Platform would have been bigger, the goomba wouldnt have enough boost to fall off the edge, therefore actually SAVING the goomba from death. However, if more goombas come out of the pipe, ryu would have to Run away immediately after getting over that spiked platform, because if He wouldnt, a different goomba would die AND He would die somewhere Else, making Ryu responsible for it. If there was a Wall, the goomba would turn around again and again and again, saving more goombas. In conclusion, Ryu is NOT responsible for that what-so-ever. Cheers. EDIT: I just noticed that Ryu jumps on the goomba IN MIDAIR. Why is that such a huge aspect? Because that means, that the goomba actually tried to COMMIT SUICIDE, and Ryu indirectly tried to save him. Therefore, Ryu is NOT responsible for that goombas death. Cheers (again).

Here's what rules you should do with the pacifist: -it IS ok if there is enemies at the end of the level and they die via axe or flagpole -if you have to clear a jump with a shell/spiny it IS ok since it is not exploding like a spin jump
