Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
Movie review
Hello and welcome my name is Stacia. This is episode 11 of the series the 12 movies of Christmas. Today’s movie is 1947s Miracle on 34th Street. This movie asks the question “how much do you believe in Santa Claus?”
It stars
Maureen O’Hara as Doris Walker
John Payne as Fred Gailey
Natalie Wood as Susan Walker
And Edmund Gwen as Kris Kringle
The story is about a divorced New York mother who works for Macy’s. She hires a nice old man to play Santa Claus at Macy's thanksgiving day parade and in it department store on 34th street in New York City. She is taken aback by his claim to be the real Santa Claus. When his sanity is questioned, a lawyer defends him in court by arguing that he is the genuine article.
Edmund Gwenn actually won an Oscar for his role as Kris Kringle and when he accepted his Best Supporting Actor Oscar, he said, "Now I know there's a Santa Claus."
Also Unbeknownst to most parade watchers, Edmund Gwenn played Santa Claus in the actual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade held on November 28, 1946.
The cast and crew were unanimous in their opinion of Edmund Gwenn: they loved him. Alvin Greenman, who played Alfred, called him "a dear, dear man," and Robert Hyatt, who played Tommy Mara, Jr., said in a 2001 interview, "He was a really nice guy, always happy, always smiling. He had this little twinkle in his eye." Added Maureen O'Hara: "...by the time we were halfway through the shoot, we all believed Edmund really was Santa Claus. I've never seen an actor more naturally suited for a role."
So it’s seems their really was a Santa Claus.
Some trivia about this movie is
The film received a "B" rating (morally objectionable in part) from the highly influential Legion of Decency because Maureen O'Hara played a divorcee.
The film won three of the four awards it was nominated for at the Academy Awards, but lost Best Picture to Gentleman's Agreement (1947).
Despite the fact that the film is set during Christmas, studio head Darryl F. Zanuck insisted that it be released in May because he argued that more people went to the movies during the summer. So the studio began scrambling to promote it while keeping the fact that it was a Christmas movie a secret.
This is by far my favorite Christmas movie and a definite 5 out of 5 stars. After watching it I guarantee you’ll believe in Santa Claus again.

For anyone wondering, in the scene when a little Dutch girl speaks to Santa he asked her what she wants for Christmas. She says nothing and when he asked why she doesn’t want anything, she says that she has a mother again so she doesn’t need anything else.

BTW: I am not disappointed!!!! Great information. They don't make great movies like these anymore. I hate Christmas movies, except for Miracle on 34th Street and "It's a Wonderful Life".

What did you expect? This review is exactly what you should expect. YT copyright makes that type of commentary very difficult and usually flagged.
