There seems to be a degree of confusion in the footage where I am attempting to flash the phone. Yes I am aware I’m using recovery mode, but this was to see if the PC would even detect the phone, I have modded plenty of these devices before, and just used a selection of B-Roll footage to discuss the point. This phone wasn’t detected in download mode, and even automated rooting software would fail, if software like that isn’t even going to get the phone communicating on the final steps I’m not too sure what will. I can understand the confusion but this seems to be an issue with the phone. I have a Galaxy SII there are videos on showing the same methods I attempted here.

Honestly im very surprised with the issues that you had with this phone, ive messed with plenty of old samsung phones, and even own 2 galaxy s3's myself, and i managed to root them and mod them quite easily from what i remember. Ive got the stock rom on one phone, with a custom kernel, and on the second one ive installed android 13, and honestly it felt faster than the stock rom, but then again thats just google play services slowing the phone down to hell on the stock rom, and i have microg installed on the one running android 13. I will say microg is significantly faster and less resource intensive than standard google play services while maintining most functionality. Its also interesting because you could also theoretically use contactless payment on the phone since the developer behind the android 13 rom managed to get nfc working.

Could be the phone's connector? Should be the Micro USB connector? Might be having issues. Or maybe the battery? Might not be sending enough power to the Micro USB connector. Or if really random, the ram or storage on the device.

@VanBourner5 ай бұрын
Used to have it and it was for a long time a phone that made me resent Samsungs. Laggy, crappy plastic that kept cracking, overheating. It looked neat tho. The phone that made me appreciate Samsungs again was a second hand Note3 I got when needed a new phone fast and got it for cheap (just needed new battery and charging port). That one I had well into 2019 and was still very much usable, but when Ckvid came around I needed a phone that was up to corporate spec to have 2FA on it so Note3 went out for Note10 lite. And that one I consider to this day the best value Samsung of the decade.

I remember most people having that thing back then (they were dirt cheap on contracts, back then in my country rules against getting a expensive phone on contract didn't exist yet) But I never had it, I got myself a Nexus 4 16GB which had beyond terrible (even for it's time) battery life on 3G (2 hours of SoT at best on 3G, 3 to 3,5 hours on Wifi) The S3 did that better.

Hehe, I was waiting for this video! Personally, I think it's amazing you even got a Galaxy S3 for £15 - it's just a shame you weren't able to flash a custom ROM, like you did with other phones. Either you've missed a setting or there's a problem with that phone - I remember when you managed to flash a Galaxy S2 with Android 10, so it's amazing that devices such as this are still seeing modern OS support. The same cannot be said regarding my first phone that I got, the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus. I might be tempted to pick up one of these (or another S4, as my current S4 (from 2013) has no working camera or GPS) and try flashing a custom ROM to see if I can make it usable as a test device - my S4 has Android 4.2 and that is way too old to do anything with at all.

Regarding flashing the phone, you already commented on it on the comments section, but my take was that it was probably your own specific device that was problematic, maybe a faulty usb connector on the phone, the cable, ports, or a combination of all of the above. It's definitely worth the $15 if you can install Android 12, 13, or 14 on it. It works well, although the battery life is quite short. I've noticed that the S3's battery drains quickly, even when it's not in use or when the power is turned off. This only applies to the i9300 model; the Galaxy S3 Neo is much better, as someone mentioned in the comments. The battery lasts longer, and the overall experience when custom ROMed is much smoother.

I would love to see you cover turning old Chromebooks into Linux/Windows systems, some only have 16G of eMMC like mine, so not much gaming but they are awesome for netbook based applications, the newer ones come with a minimum of 64G of storage, and I'd say thats enough for quite a few fun games.

youre supposed to boot into the bootloader in odin, not the recovery

I remember being so impressed by a 2 megapixel camera. I picked up a J3 with Android 5. I would like to upgrade it but I'm worried about bricking it. It works fine, except KZbin won't work. Even the most recent Android 5 version does not work. But I can go on KZbin ad free via the Firefox browser. So not a problem.

I remember i first had the regular S3 in black and then an S3 Neo in i think a darkish red? I don't remember very well as this was back in 2014 and tbh i was like 7 so i was too young to have a phone anyways, but overall they were pretty solid phones that did everything i asked them to without major hiccups, and they left a good enough impression on me that to this day im still on samsung with an S21

Usually, when those things happens and Odin don't help, you need to do a hard software recovery, under Odin and custom recovery, runs another kernel, one that was designed just for flashing Odin and base recovery in case you mix something up. While you flash something in this mode, if you disrup the flashing, the phone will be just a brick, not even the smallest light on the screen. Usually in this state, or earlier if you manage to do it well, you can flash unlocked bootloader, or a more standard and universal bootloader. After that you should usually be fine. It's going so deep that you can even flash others phones CSC and other things. If you still want to spend more time on it, you can. Usually those phones have JTAG integrated on the Mobo, solder and ready to flash, but you should really mess it badly to arrive in there

Aren't you supposed to put the phone in Odin mode when flashing a custom recovery? You were trying to use Odin while in recovery mode which of course won't work

He's aware of that.

I remember hoarding micro usb cables in that era and having to try multiple different ones until it worked in flashing/rooting my S3. Its not something I think I can replicate anymore. Good luck finding a micro usb that plays nice with yours. But it IS possible!

I was about to say "you should try it on download mode" but it seems that you tried it, if I remember correctly, instead of flashing with Odin there was another method other than rooting it and flashing from the Flashify app, I was flashing cwm and twrp just from the default recovery mode, I actually don't remember why correctly, but this used to result on a temporary custom recovery, so I would flash the ROM directly or smth
