The mirror is such a surreal vr function. It really solidifies the immersion and I think that's why people get so caught up in it. Not to mention it's just generally easier to talk to a group of people in the mirror because of the generally low FOVs most headsets have. Also since facial tracking isn't a big thing yet, it's a way for you to "puppet" your avatar and make sure you are expressing what you want to express.

Even though i have in my 2 years of experience seen more toxic people on the otherside ie people approaching people near mirrors to actively start trouble Becouse influencers and streamers in the space put it in the communitys heads that all people near mirrors are likely going to be toxic unprovoked so they approach ready to fight. There is different types of Mirror Dwellers in my opinion. The social ones, like what you said about yourself for example, the boring ones/ people who talk but usually talk about mundane stuff with their friends and blow off everyone else around them, and then the antisocial ones. The antisocial ones are the creepiest and most annoying because there are a lot of them in publics! They just give an awkward wave before turning back to the mirror and silently stare at themselves for the next half hour. There are some zones in between that I haven't acknowledged, but yeah. It's not black and white. TLDR: Not to offend but one fish in the sea doesn't represent the rest. Just because you are one who is more social doesn't mean that's how every other one is. Everyone is different.

Us dancers do our own extra setup when prepping to dance so none of our tech falls off or have anything positioned on our bodies that would be a hazard. What I do is I use a shoe lace as a chin strap to keep my headset on, I put my waist tracker through the belt loops on some short shorts, with my hip tracker off to the side rather than the center of my waist, and my feet trackers on the sides of my ankles held on tight by some hair ties that I wrap around my legs. With all that everything is safely on my body in ways that I won't come crashing down on my hardware unless I royally mess up. Like in the video you see me upsidown on a pole, if I didn't do that extra setup my hardware woulda been broke a long time ago(not that I haven't already gone through half a dozen controllers and a number of cables) I am a memer, dancer, raver, mirror dweller, and trusted user. Though in terms of the video I very much to not fit the stereotype of trusted user. I don't mute anyone unless they are toxic or trolling, I show avatars when I can, and I go as far as using quest avatars in quest worlds so that the questies are not stuck looking at my fallback.

I've been doing VRC for almost a year now, using only a quest headset. Sure there's a limit on worlds to explore and the one's available can't hold a candle to anything that non-quest users get to experience... But the things that i HAVE experienced, whether on accident or purpose, always have me going back on the headset to find some random world where i can slice watermelon's out of the air or break the boundaries and experience the void of the second skybox! yeah this kind of makes me not want to get into the vrchat community tbh if most of the veterans are like this I basically stopped watching when she basically lumped everyone who just wanted to goof off and have some fun in the same boat as malicious trolls and basically told everyone to block them on sight, like there is a big difference between me wearing a doofenshirtz avatar as a joke and someone running around as pepe screaming slurs but she basically is telling everyone they are one in the same and should be blocked on sight I kind of find it hypocritical with all this talk of "express yourself" and such but then immediately assuming everyone with a "meme" avatar is a troll who should be blocked on sight I might try to see how neosvr is still holding up since appearently they are a more new player friendly community

Although it's not a category itself, the worst sub-category is by far the quest kids whose parents bought their 6 y/o child a quest 2 for christmas. This sub-category is mostly found wearing "brush" avatars and screaming at the top of their lungs. This sub-category is mostly found in rec-room, but is still found a ton within vrc. They mostly have the New User or Visitor rank, so if you disable those two categories, you're likely safe from the screaming of a 4 year old child.

I fount that there was a hiarchy I didn't want to conform to and for the longest of time I had experienced downgrade and rudeness but soon ended up no longer chatiing to anyone,I feel like where the vrchat society has ended up you can no longer just walk up to someone and say hi without the nervous obstacle of someone just looking at u and blocking, looking away or just being pedgy cuz u said hi to there eboyfriend.i think to give anyone advice, wether it be in VR or any community online (especially in discord) I recommend to not recognize someones status Ina community, just try talking to them and if they push you off and downgrade ask why and understand from what pov they have, the more this happens the more friends you can gain.rather then fighting world hopping to find a group u can just check discord aswell.

Let Professor Steve give you some ground level tips for the east coast servers area findings so far. I’ve come to find: The drinkers: are usually stupid, like classic jocks. Usually because they are intoxicated, not usually because they lack intelligence in real life. The gays or as you put it (lgbtq) communities: are usually pretty bitter people if you find them in groups of two or more. The one’s by themselves are usually chill. On occasion you will find them in small groups (3 or less) with a straight person or 2 and usually they are pretty chill too. The furries: usually nice, but like mormons they are kinda weird. Unlike the mormons they are either EXTREMELY Sexual, or very wholesome. It seems that most of the time if you have a furry that is gay, they are usually pretty nice/not bitter. Maybe it’s something with the furry culture. I don’t know. But that seems to be my suspicion based on my interactions with them. I’d say if you see a furry don’t usually give them a hard time, they are usually nice enough and leave well enough alone. Not usually picking fights like the non furry gays do. I suspect its because, on here the furries get to live out their fantasy which is becoming what they get to be. While the gays take this opportunity as revenge against others that they would almost never be able to get away with in real life. Note, just because they are a furry does not mean they are gay, its just a hefty amount of them are. The dancers: aren’t mute, but they don’t usually talk a lot unless spoken too. Its also here I find what I suspect to be where a lot of the “Just Dance” youngsters to have ended up. Usually they’ll go with their friends to a mirrored area where a tone of other people will be and they will dance. Then you have the pole workers/strippers. Despite some bleed over between these two groups, they are usually in different locations. You wont usually have “Spicy workers” where a lot of the kids or newbs would be and vice versa. I haven’t talked to enough spicey workers to get a feel for what they usually are like and I don’t intend to. I don’t bother them and they don’t bother me. Mutes: so far I haven’t met too many of them, but the ones I have met are very nice. Some of them have been foreigners and simply cant speak the language well enough so they write everything. I don’t quiet understand it myself, but they seem nice enough. Some of them also have microphones that pick up a lot in the background (usually their family) so i think part of it is to not disclose stuff about themselves or simply to be kind and not have pans and screaming children pop up in the server. Memers: memers are split probably 60/40 to 70/30 in how pleasant they are to be around. If you find them on their avatar’s native server they are usually fine, but most of the time you’ll find them in the larger public areas. There is bleed-over between this group and the Role players. Tend to be on the nicer side, just ya know be a little cautious. Roleplayers: usually will stay in character as much as possible, so as ling as you understand their character you’ll get a good sense if what to expect from them. Usually decent enough group. Though they do have a range just like anyone else. Try not to be a jerk to them and they’ll usually be the same. The more you know about their character and their character’s likes and dislikes the better their reaction will be. One of the important things to remember is that because avatars are still being made and there isn’t everything for everyone yet, one avatar could be used to play a lot of different characters. For example, a generic anime swords guy will have so much flexibility you don’t know what to expect. Some people choose certain avatars because of their taunts or music or abilities rather than just the look of the character. This does cause some discrepancies but a safe rule of thumb is what is popular or well known about that character in their own series/culture. For example, being a Pokémon on a pokemon room, they are going to almost be 1 for 1 with that Pokémon unless its a variation of that pokemon. Meanwhile being goku on a dragon ball room, they could be a different charecter that has that goku’s abilities, they could be TFS Goku, regular Goku, Black Goku that doesn’t have a black goku avatar, evil goku that doesnt have an evil goku avatar etc. Questies: are pretty 1 for 1 with what the video said. Mostly new users and gifts for kids. Crashers: yeah its not too common, but you do usually have to log off and log back on but other than that it’s not too bad (unless you get seizers in which case in can be very dangerous, so you may want to toggle). Ravers: usually a great place for music, you will find drinkers there, but honestly its a great place to meet new people that usually are more than just NewBs Mirror sitters or as i like to call them now, gawkers: are basically 1 for 1 with the video. If you had a zombie that feasted upon visualization of the self, this would be them. They don’t really interact much with others whether you interact with them or not. Pretty sure some of them are sleeping or just left their computer. Then again, I did meat a group of like 18 people that all sat talking with each other while looking into the mirror in idle animation or sitting on each other’s laps or making out virtually all of them talking away. So yeah, some of the gawkers are rarely chatty. Need more research to come to a better understanding of what differentiates these gawkers from the others. I am going to leave this section for some of my findings outside the east coast area: lots of mexican and South American servers. Don’t know much as they only speak Spanish. They do tend to have a “mexican feel” to them though. Not usually the kind you’d think though. For example i found a lot of them to hang out at the 711 and fast food chains. Kinda weird to me, but won’t discriminate. The only other place I’ve seen them has been at the R18 servers. Again this is not to say you don’t find them elsewhere, its just when the whole server is speaking that language, those are the locations I usually find them. Japanese servers: I don’t usually find them in a lot of their severs, at least not the amount you would think coming from the nation built on the back of “another world” trope lately. Do have some pretty freaking cool worlds though. Thats all for today kids, hopefully some of my research findings will help you on your journey. And remember, there is always more to learn to better understand the virtual worlds we live in.
