The blown fuse , wondering if it has a electric pto. If so may ohms check it , or check amp draw . Also most of those with electric pto will have a little harness . It plugs into tractor wiring , then other end into electric clutch . There is a diode in it . If that diode is blown , a lot of times it will blow the fuse at the moment you shut the pto OFF
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan5 жыл бұрын
No electric pto on this one. I think one of the wires was bouncing around underneath. I have tied the loose wires up now. Thanks Terry

I had no idea that those rocker arms being loose would have that effect on it!
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan5 жыл бұрын
If the valves are too loose it makes for a very hard starting mower. Thanks Joe

@@TheShadeTreeFixitMan thank you for the answer! From some youtube videos I came across the possibility of adjusting one valve at a time, the one that is fully closed when the other is fully open, without finding the TDC. Is this also a correct method or could I encounter some issues? To me, it seems like a safer method, but perhaps I’m wrong. I’ve noticed that sometimes the TDC has a brief moment, and I could face valve overlap or a valve opening for pressure release. I'm not expert, but I should check My tecumseh ohsk Valves Thank you, have a nice day!

Plastic weld 💯

Thanks. We got it! This motor now resides in another state in another mower. There turned out to be an issue with the transmission on this mower.

just my opinion but I don't think ohv is a very good idea for lawnmowers, the regular old flat heads worked fine and usually not as much problems, I usually have the best luck with 2 part epoxy on plastic.
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan5 жыл бұрын
Stay tuned for the welding video, and I agree with you on the small engines for lawnmowers and other goofy things (like carts...) Thanks Vernon

I have a 12.5 Tecumseh the flywheel turns a half turn then stops. I just changed the flywheel key too.Any suggestions?
@TheShadeTreeFixitMan4 жыл бұрын
Have you taken the head off yet? You may have a stuck valve or even worse a broken piston. What happened when it quit running? That will give you a clue if you know the circumstance. If not, it is a process of elimination. Do the easiest things first. Pull the head, inspect the valves and try turning the motor while it is off. I expect you will see the problem. If the piston doesn't move when you turn the crank, you likely have a broken connecting rod. Hope this helps.

@@TheShadeTreeFixitMan Thank you for responding..Last season I rebuilt the carburetor and put in a new battery. I started it up this season, took it out for a warm up ride. There was a loud squeal (which I though might be a belt) which lasted only a couple seconds. Then a loud bang and then the machine stopped. I tried starting right then and nothing. I had to push it back to the shed....a mechanic friend of mine said broken piston.....do you have a removing the head and fixing a piston video?? lol (my lawn is getting taller by the day!)

I know this is a yr old vid, but I want to put this out so that it may help someone to avoid doing what I did. Check the peripheral attachments on the equipment. I once had a buddy's mower doin the same thing with the flywheel. Could only rotate the engine a little bit back and forth and it would lock up. I was thinking something in the guts of the engine was grenaded so I started taking off the valve cover. As I'm doin this my buddy & I are talking and he says "the blades are always engaged, been like that since I got it from my dad". Sure enough, broken blade engagement cable. Doin the deck inspection I found one of the spindles to be completely locked up. So the belt always being engaged to that pulley was why the engine could only turn partway. I put the valve cover back on, pulled the deck belt off the engine pulley and it fired right up and purred. Not sure what your machine is, but I learned a valuable lesson that day about troubleshooting. It ain't always the engine lol!
