With all the pressure in the book community to read as many books as possible each year it’s refreshing to see someone pace themselves and take the time to sit and enjoy the books they pick up and not chase unreasonable numbers

This funny sweet lady has only read 6 books this year. I just finished The Invisible Library. Just started Acotar series. My reading goal for 2024 is 24. I keep cheering myself on that I can do it! I read 27 books in 2022 & 10 books in 2023. You & Ashlynn are always a breath of fresh air in the intimate reading associate world.

I love quarterly wrap ups so much more than monthly wrap ups and I’m glad you decided to do a wrap up video! Mainly because I just added another Stephen king book to be put on hold for me at the library! Duma Key sounds so good and you gave it a 5⭐️ so immediately I need to read it of course lol! I love what you said in the end about just taking your time and enjoying your books instead of just trying read as much as you can like some of booktube cause it’s so true! I totally agree about savoring the books we read. I have had a nasty habit of reading really quickly and not enjoying what I’m reading/not remembering the details. This month I decided to take it slower. I’ve finished two excellent books, the reappearance of rachel price and golden son, and I haven’t enjoyed my reading this much in such a long time. Both 5⭐️ reads for me.

You might enjoy The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab. I found out halfway through it, it's the start of a second trilogy in the world but I found it quite enjoyable regardless. I listened to the audiobook and I did have a little bit of trouble trying to work and keep track of which London I was in at the time (you'll see if you do read it). I can't wait for the next book and I need to find that first trilogy. lol

I just started Throne of Glass this month, I really want to watch your vid after, but I am curious if you had any suggestions on the tandem read, or if anyone in the comments knows if he talks about it in the TOG recap video and I can skip to that (I just wanna avoid spoilers hehe)

I don't remember his video having any spoilers. I'm not 100% sure though. I recommend reading The Assasins Blade first. It helps you care about Celaena before starting Throne of Glass. There were times when TOG was slow to me because of the world building, but it was definitely information we needed.

Deadhouse Gates is a unique case cuz it's a book where it's written to be purposely kinda hard to get through, to emulate what all the characters are going through. That being said, I was also turned off by it until I got to the end, and I know many others were as well. If you jump into Memories of Ice, you definitely won't regret. It's a much more familiar and easily enjoyable experience (not to say the book isn't also brutally dark). Imo it's the best book in the series as of the seven I've read and the best fantasy book I've ever read. It's horrific, heartbreaking, and all the more beautiful because of it. (it also has 2 of the best battles ever put to text)

Witcher 3 is magical. Great for somebody who loves a story rich world with exciting gameplay, amazing story, and awesome music. The videogames are a sequel to the books. I've gone through 20 books so far this year, print/digital and/or audio (some in both format at a time) but ehh. I don't read a lot of fiction (mostly educational material on neurodivergence and various occult and folklore topics). This year though rolling into science fiction, Murderbot diaries got me hooked! I'm usually a medieval fantasy type fan. Also got myself a library card which has helped getting (through) material. However... 20 books is *a lot* for me. In 2023 I read 27 across the year and less the years before. Getting so close to that amount not even halfway through the year 😶 part of my goal is to read more for fun this year, so more fiction.

Awesome video ‼️☠️☺️🤠😅☠️ I have read about 25 books and most of them are just books that I have had on hold from the library that were finally available so as soon as I finish those I am getting back into the Throne of Glass series and finishing the Harry Potter series which I am on Order of the Phoenix. I have decided to try reading the first 3 twilight books but for most romances unless it’s Ali Hazelwood because her spicy scenes are kind of weird but they are not many compared to ACOTAR series. So I have decided to go back to YA because like you these are the books and authors that I trust and love. I am currently working my way through the ShadowHunters series through my library so far it is amazing it’s urban fantasy and imo it’s like the Throne of Glass series. So if you and Ash want to journey into The ShadowHunters series i highly recommend it. Also check out the new book coming out on May 7th called Blood at the Root it has ancestral magic, again urban fantasy YA by a new author LaDarrion Williams. Also books like Blood at the root are Legendborn and Bloodmarked both amazing reads.

Ian! Great video! Quick question: I want to start reading Stephen King, but I don't know where to start. I really want to read The Stand, but since I've never read any of Stephen King's work, I'm worried I might ruin my experience. What do you suggest? :) Thanks!

I am so sorry I am just now seeing your question!! Okay, The Stans is amazing, and I think if you did start with it, you would love it. But, before jumping into one of his really big books I always recommend starting with something smaller. Such as: Pet Semetary, Duma Key, or The Shining! You can’t go wrong with either of those!

19 books so far is impressive for the year. I have read 21 books but nothing as long as the books you read. I have to refigure the books I am reading to put in some of the long books I still have to read for my 24 books to read in 2024. Happy reading and looking forward to your other videos that come out. ^_^

So glad you loved the TOG journey! It’s my favorite series. They’re the best books. Too bad you weren’t a fan of One Dark Window. But you’re convincing me I need to read Stephen King. If you want to Buddy read Fairytale in May or June I’m down.

I love this every so many month wrap-up idea. April is going to be a zero book month for me. I started The Games of Thrones, but am only 150 pages into it. We move on Friday to start our 2k miles home(!!!), and I haven't gotten to read for maybe a week now. I have been doing monthly wrap-ups, but I definitely can't make one for April. 😅

Also, I was a huge Twilight fan when it came out. A couple of years ago I tried to read Midnight Sun which was Edward's point of view and I could not get into it. I don't think I would love the Twilight series anymore and I agree with you about the cringe in that book.

Yes, the books get better as you go along. The Assassin’s Blade does feel a little slow and all over the place. But, it is important to read because there are POVs that show up from it on later books!
