Every time I see a stripped down flathead v8, I think back to 1970, in a farmers open shed , in AUS, with a dirt floor, replacing my stripped fibre timing gear in my 37 ford sedan, with a new alloy one. What great memories . I was one my own and it seemed like a huge ordeal at the time , but quite an achievement in the end. Nice to see the progress on this one, good job steve

Awesome job , gentlemen ! Sounds like that refurbished engine is a keeper . A couple of things to address , but that will happen when changing things around . You never said if the tach drive unit repair worked for you . Much quieter , still a low temp runner , & less oil used !

when the lifters were replaced with used, were the replacement lifters resurfaced so the wouldn't wipe out the mismatched cam lobes or do flatheads not have this problem... please expand on this when mixing & matching used valve train parts

Not as much of a problem with flatheads. Have swapped used lifters in many many times with no ill effects. We also think the vintage lifters are better quality and hold up better than the modern off shore lifters of today

No. Original US military surplus. Was refurbed in the 60’s and kept for a spare engine for probably a generator or something similar

Sodium silicate. A powder/liquid that solidifies in leaks when heated. Often used in radiators. “Old” car stuff.
