$700 in 1932 would be over $15,000 today. They spent that much on her funeral but buried her in an unmarked grave? How strange!

I just wonder off hand is there any record of who paid for the funeral procedures? Keeping in mine that's her husband was a cop that probably did not make that much money on a salary, and it is very odd that one of the principle players in this little scenario committed suicide,, just makes you wonder, reminds me of the case that Leo covered of the cheerleader that was presumably murdered by the person that was the head of the School board and highly politically connected and all of the evidence except for the poor girl's dress was destroyed when he was found presumably not guilty, makes you wonder........

@@thehillbillyfiles I LOVE to hear your laughing & injoying & having fun while making your videos !😁😃😄 Laughter is good for a person & for those who are around them. There are a ton of You Tube vids out there & if someone doesn't like hearing laughter & a person having fun well I say they're free to move on. They're also free to make their own 'videos'. That is my view on that, I'm sure I'm not alone thinking that way. If they don't like laughter they can watch some of my true ghost vids. I have tons of spooky ghost pics from Gettysburg to add, one day. 🤘👻💖

WOW! I just absolutely loved this video. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful piece of history. The cemetery records(map) should identify exactly where the two plots owned by the attorney are? She could've been buried under a different name since she didn't own either. Just my thoughts and I'm sure you already took that into consideration. You two do a lot of hard work but unraveling the mystery surely makes it all worth it. Awesome channel and very interesting content. Your subscribers will grow fast as people stumble across just one of your videos. Definitely my favorite of the several I am subscribed to.

No worries. I’m in Tennessee and have known a couple women who pronounce it as May-me. Probably just the difference in areas and the unique dialect you will hear depending on the part of the country you live in.

I’ve done the car trick multiple times, and it works every time. You have to be in just the right spot. Some people say it’s just an illusion, but many say it’s the ghost of Mamie. I actually fell off a cliff up there back in 2012 and about killed my damned self. I’ve always said that Mamie pushed me.😬 Lol. Thank you for these cool videos y’all do, and for sharing the forgotten history of this awesome state! Kudos!😊 Edit: Also, yes they did do a play based on this story in the Chief Logan State Park Amphitheater a couple/few years ago. You can find articles about it in old Logan Banner papers.

Love your videos! I'm pretty sure you are correct that her name was pronounced May me, as Mamie was a common name in the 30s to 50s (like Mamie Eisenhower). Also, my mom smoked Lucky Strikes starting in the late 30s (in Tennessee and east Texas). In the early 1950s, she would send me on my bicycle to the store to buy her cigarettes (at age 9 with a note authorizing me to buy them if they asked - but no one ever blinked an eye when they sold them to me). They were 25 cents a pack then, and she would complain that they used to be 15 to 20 cents a pack. Unfortunately she passed at in her 60s as a result of hypertension, kidney failure and lung problems, likely a result of smoking (her sister who didn't smoke lived to 91). Seeing her addiction to this habit, my brother and I never smoked. I'm amazed now that people can afford to smoke.

The city should clean that graveyard up, and give Mamie a headstone. I can’t believe a town would just let a graveyard be taken over by weeds and fallen trees. This is what people who are ordered to community service and inmates are for. Just clean it up and mow it once or twice a year.

I think it was Harry Robertson’s wife. Never underestimate a woman who’s afraid she’s about to lose everything. I certainly don’t believe Mamie was the town trollop or that Clarence had an affair with her. I think Harry asked him say he was or accused him of being the one having the affair with her. Or maybe Harry killed her and had Clarence to help him discard of her body, which I doubt. Clarence would’ve cleaned the car thoroughly if that was the case, and so would’ve Harry. That’s why I think it was Harry’s wife. She wouldn’t have had time to clean the car thoroughly without being caught because husbands worked and families only owned 1 car back then. But we’ll never know.

I love how you found mamie's grave, I believe she is there as well, or pretty close. This is another tragic story. 😥 when she said she was having affairs with some prominent citizens, she pretty much signed her own death warrant. Interesting about her husband dying in a asylum later. Heather, you did an outstanding job researching this story, thank you. Perhaps one day, someone out of the goodness of his/her heart ❤️ will put a simple marker on Mamie's grave. Thank you very much again, Leo and Heather, for another great story, and video. Have a great day.

I love ya'all. I appreciate so much all your efforts to put out videos for us. As I said before my health is not good enough to go to these places I have always wanted to go and I go through you all. And being from WV, I feel like you are my "home boys". I love your narration because your voice is home to me. My people. My West Virginia. Ok, Ok, enough for the sappiness, I do appreciate you so much

Great video guys. Few things as sad as an unmarked grave. Even a fieldstone is better than nothing.

I’ve done it many times. Put your car in neutral just before that bridge and you will go backwards uphill!

Good job!!! So happy you found her. You should take some silk flowers and leave them on her grave area. I really enjoyed this one as well. You guys are rock stars!!! Stay safe!

Good research. You have me convinced that she's buried there such a shame a beautiful young woman murdered like that. But as I always told my kids & now my little grandsons bad choices have bad ends. She definitely was playing with fire. She's lucky she didn't end up pregnant. Poor Clarence. How convenient to blame the black man. Do you have ideas about who really did kill her? Your car going backwards up that hill - too creepy & spooky for me. I can guarantee you I will NEVER go to that road. The thought of ghosts scare the damn daylights out of me. I sure as hell do not want to meet one. You are braver people than I am Thanks for a very interesting video.

I watch Mysterious WV. Love Sean and his wife. But mainly i think WV is such a beautiful state. I enjoy the scenery. This story is facinating and the icing is the visuals. 😉🌹

My late mom's best friend was called Alberta Bell, from Logan WV. Listening to her stories as a kid of 10 or so and being a writer myself, I've often thought about writing a fictional book based on all those wonderful stories she told. Have any if you watched the channel MYSTERIOUS WV? Sean McCracken did a video on this case, and this video here just adds that personal touch. Thank you!!

You should write down those stories. I should as well. True stories are stranger than fiction and way crazier

Not fictional. The older generations stories are historical, not fictional. In college, I was taught in Western Civ class that a true story is when 2 people give an identical account of the same even, that is considered to be an historical fact, the truth… These stories are taught in college history books as historical facts. So, no difference if you ask me.

You said the gravedigger said her grave was marked with the metal funeral home marker. Maybe someone could metal detect the area and find that marker?

I came across one of your shows and liked it so much I am looking forward to the next one. I think the husband did it, crime of passion with the over kill. It was a small town, so he knew. But in those days, she would have been a wanton woman and ask for it. The husband would have been viewed as the victim being a respectable lawman out patrolling crime while his very loose and disrespecting wife was patrolling men.
