The 1958 Roadmaster 75 Convertible is One of The Most Chrome Equipped cars of All Time! N/M!

The Buick Roadmaster is an automobile that was built by Buick from 1936 until 1942, from 1946 until 1958, and then again from 1991 until 1996. Roadmasters produced between 1936 and 1958 were built on Buick's longest non-limousine wheelbase and shared their basic structure with the entry-level Cadillac Series 65, the Buick Limited, and after 1940, the Oldsmobile 98. Between 1946 and 1957 the Roadmaster served as Buick's flagship.
When it was resurrected for the 1991 through 1996 model years, it became the marque's largest vehicle. The Roadmaster sedan, a C-body vehicle over its eight previous generations, shared the B-body for the first time in its history. It was 10 in (254 mm) longer with a 5 in (127 mm) greater wheelbase than the C-body Buick Park Avenue. It was also larger both in wheelbase (2 in (51 mm)) and overall length (6 in (152 mm)) than the K-body Cadillac DeVille.
For 1958, GM was promoting their fiftieth year of production, and introduced anniversary models for each brand; Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Chevrolet. The 1958 models shared a common appearance on the top models for each brand; Cadillac Eldorado Seville, Buick Roadmaster Riviera, Oldsmobile Holiday 88, Pontiac Bonneville Catalina, and the all-new Chevrolet Bel-Air Impala.
In 1958, the Roadmaster was available in the well-equipped "75" version, and the body was adorned with bulkier and more heavily chromed styling while the top trim package Limited was the most expensive and fully optioned vehicle. A new "drawer pull" grille was used that Buick called "Fashion-Aire Dynastar", made up of rectangular chrome squares. For the first time since 1948, there were no distinguishing VentiPorts on the front fenders. On the rear deck, the Roadmaster name was spelled out in block lettering beneath a Buick emblem housing the trunk lock keyway. Wheelhouses had bright moldings, rocker panels had an ebbed molding and a large rear fender bright flash with ribbed inserts replaced the previous year's chromed rear fender lower panel. Four headlamps were standard. New brakes featured cast-iron liners in aluminum drums. Sales fell further to about 14,000.
There was a complete restyling for 1959, but this time the names of the various series were changed. Not until 1991 would there again be a big Buick known as the Roadmaster; the largest Buick models were renamed the Electra.

It wasn't excess, HJE's detractors hated his work on account they were so green with envy. Easiest route for secondary designers/engineers was to come out of the woodwork with excuses as to WHY their designs couldn't measure up and/or didn't sell during this period. Look, the other way to measure the success of these amazing works of art and engineering is to look at a chart of their rise in the last 60-odd years...Zoom, zoom zoom UPWARD. But, as they say...and it's true: People Believe What They Want To Believe.

@@kickit59 Yet sales were off terribly thanks in part to the Eisenhower recession and 58s became obsolete very fast. The Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special is a favorite of mine.

1958 is my favorite year for the top of the line GM cars!!! This Buick Roadmaster convertible with it's massive bumpers & fat bands of chrome everywhere is the pinnacle of excess!!! The next door neighbor had one of these in the 1960's but it was a hard top in yellow like the Buick parked next to it here. It looked very outdated in the '60s but now it looks nostalgic

Had one in my teens, it was two tone blue and white but not a convertible. The seals in the fluid drive failed with a loud flushing sound, unable to afford to fix it to the junkyard it went. They were extremely comfortable. Later in my life I had a Wildcat and then Regal Limited. In my opinion Buicks and Chryslers had Cadillac beat insofar as luxury goes. Drive it don't hide it.

The chrome side panels & rear bumper had black stripes between the chrome ones on the Roadmaster 75. The Special Century, & Super were all chrome or polished aluminum.

Too bad we didn't get a closer look at the 56 next to it as well. I noticed an alternator and incorrect breather caps on the valve covers. Glass bowl fuel filter was also missing. Not a big deal but had to point out the details. It's interesting such a unpopular car when new is now revered by so many collectors worldwide. I always liked 58s, but few shared by vision until just recently. Bought my first 58 when I was 18. That was over 50 years ago.

Interesting that, even with a special order, the buyer didn't get air conditioning. If course, it was a $400.00 option/around $3,000.00 today. My mother had a white, '58 Roadmaster, fully equipped. Great car!

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!
