3:04 I love the use of “surrender” because it’s like your heart is fighting so hard to not fall for that person but your feelings are so strong for them that all the walls you tried so hard to keep up start falling down. And you’re finally accepting it and letting them into your heart.

something about this song really puts time into perspective. I remember listening to Robbers a borderline unhealthy amount when I was a teenager- on my way to class, while reading and playing video games, on days I was too sad to crawl out of bed. And now having this spiritual successor to it, and knowing all the things I’m going to do while listening to it, how it’ll age alongside me just like it’s spiritual sister song did- it’s a bittersweet realization, but if I’m going to get older regardless of whether I want to or not, I could think of no better companion to have alongside me than the 1975’s music

I've been happily married for 5 years, with 2 kids, to my college sweetheart. Listening to this song takes me back to late night walks we had talking about almost anything, eating cheap street foods when we were broke asf and you don't care if the food is good or not because the only thing that matters is you're with someone that completes you. I wake up to this man every morning but still tears fall down my eyes as I write this - so I guess there are just songs so powerful it brings out the best memories in you.

It sounds like a mix of medicine and robbers, with shoegaze-y guitars, muddy bass, and percussions creating a dreamy and nostalgic environment. Befitting of a song that talks about remembering and forgetting.

sorry but as someone who listens to shoegaze religiously there's no "shoegaze-y" in this song, rather it sounds more like dreampop and even that is a reach; I, myself was wondering as well as what this song sounds like then it clicked on me that it sounds like "With or Without You" by U2 so yeah you get the gist

timelines of the best parts: - the saxophone at the intro 0:30 - every "Do you think that i've forgoten?" part - the girl part - when the girl says (i miss you on the train, i miss you in the morning, and so on until matty sings his part again) - the outro

one of the many things i truly love about this song is how matty healy incorporated the word "surrender" instead of the excessively used and cliche "falling in love". it felt so authentic in a manner that one would risk to knock down their fortresses for that person and it's simply enchanting.

I seriously cannot explain how much the 1975 means to me. They never fail to make me want to drive through a tunnel with the windows down. They make me want to stop caring and just listen and imagine the future, the past , and the present at the same time. It’s more than just liking their songs. I genuinely feel like I have some connection when I listen to them that I’ve never got anywhere else

That's what music and film always seems to forget in the last few years, way back when, many years ago there were happy endings to films and bands kept their core sound when evolving, and stayed true to their sound for the fans, and film now there is hardly ever a happy ending, just to make it all risqué and edgy, mainly to sell out and follow the trend and cash. Wtf can't some things just never change, like you say we all crave that coming some and comforting feeling, I don't understand this world.
@evelientx
@evelientx Жыл бұрын
@@SchuylerB I don't know if you're talking about me wanting them to stay the same or craving them to go back to what they once were or whatever, because that's in no way what I meant. I like how the 1975 has been experimenting and is diverse and doesn't necessarily do the same stuff for each album. this album is its own but imo this track and 'the 1975' (even when its different from what were used to from the opening track) do both feel like home. it just feels right.

In my head, this song is tied to breads. My boyfriend and I used to call each other "loaf". On the day of our 3rd anniversary, he passed away. This song would occasionally repeat over and over in my head whenever I went to bakeries or even passed by the pastry aisle in grocery stores, as if a loaf of bread contained the life we had. It made me think about how there are other people as well who carries a piece of late loved ones or someone who was once in their life that they couldn't put down because it doesn't belong anywhere else but with them.

The Portugese word 'Saudade' sort of fits...or maybe the German term 'Fernweh' might be relevant. But I think the word that best suits the feeling you described is: Anemoia. It's a new and nearly unheard-of word. Its meaning is just as the title would suggest; a nostalgic sense of longing for a past you yourself have never lived.

This song is such a bittersweet feeling. You can listen to all the melodies balance each other out so soothingly. The sweetness is so comforting. It feels so familiar, like a place you’ve never been to before but you know it’s out there. So close, yet so far. Someone is probably listening to this and feel the same thing, we live in such a small place that is made up with big thoughts. This might seem a bit over the top haha, but I’m just saying the truth. I love it a lot!! If someone does feel this same thing as me though, I’m glad to know I’m not alone, and that you share these same thoughts with me.

this song reminds me of my boyfriend. we feel so apart now because he's taking time to himself to work on his mental health, and i really need to think about the future of the relationship. this song makes me feel hopeful, and i just found it today, when i felt like our situation has hit rock bottom. i just hope everything between us works out

Thank you, 1975, for this incredible song. It evokes a lot of emotions in a good nostalgic way. Listening to it makes me feel better because it reminds me of my favorite person, who lives happily in another universe. Sending it to him in the hopes that it’ll comfort him.🤍 To my Kevin, I apologize for never attempting to forget you, as you told me before leaving for a new world. You know telling me to forget you is like telling me to stop breathing, which is why I can't and won't bother trying. I'm sending you this song because I'm confident you'll love it. Please, if you could, come to me in my dreams so we can dance and sing to this song together.

About You by The 1975 is such a sentimental and heartbreaking way of remembering past people. realization hits us that we are never bound to forget. no matter how much we want to completely erase memories of people, we couldn’t help but to remember them in all ways. they remain on everything-even and most especially on the ones that are in need of loving and caring. they leave a part of their existence within us, making it harder to get rid of them. by that, we truly are a shared fragment of other people. maybe, no matter how terrible things were between us and them, we couldn’t help but to always have them. they will always shelter a space in our hearts and minds as wounds, scratches, and grief to forever live with. I’ve learned about this song the day after my ex-everything got married to the girl I’ve considered family. It was like the universe was crying with me at that time, all the pain, frustrations and disappointments ran into my mind and I couldn’t help but mourn that day. This song came along and it saved me, made me think about the good memories and focused on that instead of playing back all the betrayal they did. Until now, I’m here. This will always be my forever comfort song.

This song reminds me of a girl that became my dream, a dream I will probably never let go of. I have done everything I ever could for her, and if I could do anything more I would in a heartbeat. Most people would call me stupid for it, but I had my reasons for it and nothing is going to change that. She is on my mind nearly at every moment of the day, and even if everyone around me tells me to move on I won't, I will never forget her no matter what happens in life.

I feel like I grew up along with 1975. back then in 2013/14/15 (I was 13,14 and 15 y/o) it was more of a rebellious and and „fcked up“ time. While with the years their music became softer and softer. I am now 22, graduated, moved with my boyfriend, live in the city of my dreams, and this album feels like a hug. A big hug from music that became „mature“, soft, lovely. I identify myself with this album from its music, instrumentals. Such warmth

We can read this song as "remembering a person after a breakup". I like to read it as a "remembering a promise" kind of song, a more positive outlook. Two people must separate (life circumstances), it's hard, sacrifices and conditions must be made and agreed, but they are fixed into seeing each other again, even if it takes a long time, they know they are for one another.

For me this song is saying that no matter what long it’s been I’ll never forget him. No matter what comes into my life.. he’ll always be alive in my heart. I miss him in the morning, at night, when I’m doing really anything .. but I listen to this & it makes me feel bittersweet. I remember taking him to one of their shows and it was so much fun. i can't describe the felling that this song brings me. I love the 1975 because that's how they make me feel, speecheless, mixed feelings, every time i hear them, i just want to hang out with my headphones on and forget about everything and just live a teenage dream.

I'm 52 a this sounds like so many 80s groups....Depeche mode, book of love, new order etc. Amazing sound.

My 20 year old daughter recently played this song for me. And I told her exactly what you said about 80’s music. It struck me how influential the music she listened to growing up has had on her taste in music now.

I can’t believe that when I returned to college after twenty years and sat on the bench where my college girlfriend and I used to sit, this song was sent to me by the music system inexplicably. Although I have not contacted with her for many years, I burst into tears at this moment. This is a modern miracle.Now I cannot help myself to tell her this miracle.
