Back in the 70’s , we’d stop everything that weekend to watch JL telethon. Then talk about it when we went back to school. It had top notch celebrities, acts and music talents. Over the years it seemed to get less notoriety.

I don't think anyone could do a telethon like Jerry Lewis! I have watched the Jerry Lewis Telethon for so many years. When Jerry left doing the telethon, I stopped watching. Thank you Jerry for your hard work, dedication, and committment! You will never be forgotten! God Bless Jerry Lewis! May you rest in peace!

One of the best endings that I remember in all the years of the telethon. Still brings tears just like it did when it first aired in 1984. "RIP Jerry"

Jerrry Lewis MDA telethon was a Labor Day staple from the early 70's to the 2000's. Labor day hasn't been the same since.

Out of all the totes I've seen from 1976 to 2010 thanks to KZbin, I must say that THIS one here is my favorite. It's my favorite, because it has an exciting outcome. It's the final tote that wouldn't die until the third one showed up. Forgive me for my choice of words, but I was just trying to sound clever.

Like so many things, daytime game shows and soaps, the baseball game of the week, ABCs Wide, Wide World of Sports, saturday morning cartoons, to name but a few, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon has passed into memory. Yeah, it was cheesy and Lewis had his heart on his sleeve, but you watched it. Labor Day just isn't quite the same.

Time to pass the torch, and find someone to carry on Jerry's role. He is irreplaceable, but like Bob Barker and Drew Carey, you honor a tradition not by stopping, but continuing on. "Walk on, walk on... You'll never walk alone." In this case, this means a successor to *walk with Jerry* . It's been a TRAGEDY not to realize this.
@CameronBW20004 ай бұрын
Well, we had Kevin Hart continue the tradition one time.

Just wondering what that organization did with all that money that Jerry Lewis got for them? In the end, I believe it was about 32 billion dollars. And not a cure in sight??? All his hard work . Where did all that money go?
@ChrisDeBello5 жыл бұрын
Please visit the MDA website www.mda.org to learn where all the money has gone. Tests and trials are finally becoming treatments. Those with neuromuscular disease are now living into adulthood rather than passing away before they're 10. It took time but the human body isn't simple to fix like a car.
@mwilliams13305 жыл бұрын
I do not know the exact number, but your 32 billion is way over inflated. Several interviews on You Tube Lewis states around 1.6 billion (give or take). That includes corporate as well as individual giving. Where did it go? Well like any Non profit (though non taxable) there still must be an accounting to the IRS. Every Organization has expenses, overhead, etc, and that includes salaries and even expenses for fundraising. There are web sights that monitor and rate what are the best charities as per the percentage of finances spent. At times it is like comparing apples to oranges. MDA for instance might have higher expenses in salaries, but it also has highly trained professionals in medical research and care, other charities may be just 'need based' giving with much lower overhead. As for 'cure', many things will never be 'cured', but the advances have provided longer and higher qualities of life for those afflicted (not only in MDA, but many other charities). Bottom line do your own research, and give to the Organizations that best fit your heart. soul, and passion.

In some ways, I guess we All wonder, with All the Money Accumulated through the years, But I do Believe The Money has Genuinely Helped in The Research of M.D.A. THIS DISEASE IS EXTREMELY COMPLICATED, Jerry Lewis Gave a LARGE PART OF HIS LIFE, TO FINDING A CURE, THATS DEDICATION, AND I ALSO BELIEVE MANY A PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HELPED, Like Jerry says in his End Song, Keep Hope in Your Heart, R.I.P.
