Thanks Tee-Jay for be the first to review these speakers. I put a lot of my time in voicing these speakers and this is my take on how B&W top end should be, just enough detailed to hear everything but not to the point it can lead to listening fatigue. Of course, the midrange is what these speakers are about. I am glad it was able to connect you emotionally to the music, after all this is what this hobby is about.

I'll pop by and say the TS A75 is great. Maybe some exaggerations when some said it sounded closer to a tube. But it did end up replace my beloved class A 2*50 and that is great value for the money. Great job with it. I'm using my Eversolo d-amp 6 master with LPS to control it for now. Looking for a good matching pre 😉. Sooner or later I will pick up some speakers too. Currently leaning to TL for low end, but the top end improvement without going to far is interesting

Wow Tee-Jay !!! That was an excellent review of this speaker. I don't think anyone could complain about your sonic description. I, for one, am now very clear as to what this speaker would sound like in my (somewhat) smaller room. Yes, I think a good sub like a Rel would (possibly) compliment the bottom end but I'd "listen" as is for several weeks before deciding. Now, what really impressed me (most unexpectedly) was both the cabinet and cross-over (SE) construction. As far as the front baffle screws go? Love that look! Very Harbeth(eth) to me. A lot of thought and care went into this speaker. I have to think that considering the not quite "good enough" speakers available today (at this price).... this is a real bargain! Thanks for opening it up........ made a huge difference>

Take the egg foam from the sides out it's not needed sound better without it just place it on the back one piece and then put the stuffing back in. I don't know why they didn't put the Binding post highe up and it could have gone straight into the crossover you wouldn't need wires. Put some copper tape around the magnet and the front and back plate. What is the impedance of the tweeter driver? Ideally a 12 or 16 ohm would have been better if they make it. I think a port would be nice the w- driver are not meant to be in a seal unit. if you put the port at the bottom four inches across seven inches high give or take an inch should work very nicely get your circular cutter TJ. You can sort out the chaffing in KEF, get some really stiff card 3 mm thick, about 40mm in depth, In the vertical plane slide it into the port you want it a snug fit no gaps, push it in about 30mm secure all sides of the cardboard with a bit of electrical tape to the port that will sort out your chaffing

@leodesforges1615 ай бұрын
Thanks Tee-Jay I'm a bit confused by your description of this speaker as having a U-shaped response profile. Especially because you then went on to describe it as midrange forward. Those two things seem to contradict one another... I bought these about two years ago when they were the XSA Vanguard. They are sealed 5 1/4" woofer in a small cabinet and have limited bass response. Their treble is also quite recessed, which lends to their "smooth and non-fatiguing" sound. Their midrange is definitely where they shine. With a small sub they are amazing Jazz and Vocalist speakers. Their overall reserved nature makes them less "exciting" and dynamic which limits their ability to be highly engaging with bigger and more explosive dynamic music. I see them as a very chill, nicely sized and built $800 monitor for relaxed, all day listening. Their midrange forward nature really pushes voices out into the room and if vocalists are your favorite thing about music: I think you'd love these Voyagers.
@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph21205 ай бұрын
@ 6:40 seconds I said the Yamaha amp has a forward midrange not the speakers ' go to that time stamp ' I am the one who changed out the upgraded crossover and this made a huge difference in sound performace ' I should have posted the Freq response '
@leodesforges1615 ай бұрын
@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Ah, I missed that. How did you acquire an upgraded crossover?
@ThomasAndStereo5 ай бұрын
@@leodesforges161 The TS Voyager is the 100% exact same speaker as your Vanguard. (I bought the rights to it from XSA) It achieve smoothness by rolling off the top end. So it has what I call an "A curve" frequency response where the midrange is 'dominant'. You find this in single driver speakers and in this case, the Vanguard (Or TS Voyager) crosses over at 4khz so the main driver actually acts like a single driver while the tweeter is there just to give a bit of air and detail. The TS Voyager SE Mk2 uses a different crossover, where you have a U curve, the smoothness is achieved by creating a dip in the frequency around the 1khz to 4 khz zone where sibilance of the human voice is usually at. So the Mk2 SE does not get bright or harsh regardless of recording quality. The top end is tilted up to give that detail and air. Tee-Jay got this crossover because I sent it to him. The MK2 SE crossover was designed to be swap in exact fit to the TS Voyager speaker (Vanguard). The result is a completly different sound. In short, the TS Voyager / Vanguard achieve smoothness by rolling off the treble. The TS Voyager Mk2 SE achieve smoothness by 'dipping' the upper midrange. The advantage is you get smoothness but you retain detail and air. The disadvantage is the midrange is not as forward. (But still forward enough)
@leodesforges1615 ай бұрын

If this is an upgrade, not sure why the woofer circuit capacitor is changed to an electrolytic capacitor, especially when the value is not big. That's actually a downgrade.
@ThomasAndStereo6 ай бұрын
I actually tried very expensive to very cheap capacitors, it did not make any big differene when choosing the capacitor for the woofer. I blind test people and I approached this with money no object approach when designing the crossover. If it made even 5% difference, I would use the better parts. That is why, instead of using the cheaper green resistors, I use the black resistors that I think cost 3x more. I even tried $100 capacitors in this speaker. I will explain all this when I make the video. In short, I chose everything based on sound and not based on price.
@cpaint696 ай бұрын
@@ThomasAndStereo Thanks for the explanation. From my experience playing with different woofers in my DIY speakers, changing an electrolytic capacitor to a better capacitor like Jantzen Superior Z-Cap or Miflex KPCU or KPAL, most of the time there will be a significant improvement. The only time I cannot hear much improvement is when the woofer is not as well engineered enough to resolve the extra details from the upgrade.
@ThomasAndStereo6 ай бұрын
@@cpaint69 I have like maybe a hundred plus capacitors at my place and I truly gave it a chance. Another problem is that i remember was a very high value I think so using a good capacitor was just too big. I did use a solen black capacitor with no improvement.
@cpaint696 ай бұрын
@@ThomasAndStereo I believe you must have tried many different capacitor in your testing stage and I also agree a good capacitor is significantly bigger than as electrolytic capacitor of the same value. I am just sharing if an electrolytic capacitor in the woofer circuit is replaced by a Jantzen Superior Z-Cap or Miflex KPAL capacitor and not much improvement is heard, then chances is the woofer is not good enough to resolve the improvement from the capacitor upgrade. Btw the solen black capacitor is a pretty entry level capacitor that I will use only when the capacitor value hits more than 50uF.
