My personal best are lumix 12-35 2.8 and lumix 20 1.7 They cover all for adventure filming plus give you some outstanding low light on e.g. Panasonic GH5. In my opinion a perfect combination, especially that 20mm is sized like a small box of matches

@@ryanjharris Do not listen to some opinions of slow AF. It is simple BS, even if it would, MF works like a charm. For me it is great value for $$$, sharp, small, superb bokeh, ideal for low light and wide enough to make indoor photo/video even with poor light.

I think this setup may work if you have lots of experience concerning framing and therefore are able to anticipate very fast which focal length (=which lense) to use. The widest focal length with the Canon 24-70 on a GH5 with the speedbooster is around 35mm, compared to a full frame sensor. This is quite far away from being wide so you will be switching to the Tokina lots of the time, just to switch back to the Canon for a “normal” focal length. I use the Sigma 18-35 which in my opinion is more practicable. A 17-50 or something similar would be even better, but I stick with the Sigma because of its aperture and its awesome image quality. 😉

HelloRyan, Im thinking about getting the GH5 for shooting on my Ronin S. I am currently shooting on my 7D Mark II with the 24-70 2.8II and love it but I want something a little lighter. The problem I am having about going to the GH5 is the auto focus issues I have seen in lots of youTube videos by folks using it, they all seem to have a problem with it and have to do a work around hack to make it better. Cannon's auto focus and rack focusing system within my 7D II is phenomenal and I don't want to sacrifice that for portability, So, in your humble opinion, what are your experiences with the focus system of the GH5? Great video BTW. Steve

Why does he say post questions in the comments only to not answer. Annoying
@pieterpauwelbeelaerts59955 жыл бұрын
a metabones (two versions: ultra/xl) speedbooster is an adapter that boosts the size of your mft sensor artificially while it makes it possible to mount canon's popular EF mount glass on a mft camera. The effects are: better low light performance and background blur, and lenses become wider because the crop factor of your camera reduces. It turns your mft camera in an apsc camera (Ultra), or close to fullframe (XL). Drawbacks are: autofocus doesn't work allways good and there can be focus problems. That is what I learned while renting speedbooster xl for a shop video.

@The Happy Hour Hound, if this response is not too late, the math is 0.71 (using metabones ultra) x 16 = 11.36 x 2 (m43 crop is x2) = ~22mm for 35mm full frame equivalent. The same math applies throughout the focal length. Aperture then has a wider view so more light comes in so your aperture equivalent becomes .71 x 2.8 = ~2.0 but in 35mm ff it’s 4.0 Hope that helps! Hi Ryan, just subbed and looking to buy the gh5 for video (I hv the Sony a73 for photos) and this vid is timely. Thanks!

The metabones aperture conversions only apply to DOF not to brightness. the extra light “gathered” is relative to achieving a wider angle and not to making a brighter shot.

Would This Be Good For Shooting Sports Event?
@letsracewithrccar5 жыл бұрын
If its indoor, it depends but outdoor yes. The only weakness of the gh5 is the weak lowlight and auto focus performance. The g9 auto focus is much improved but lack of pro video features on the gh9.

Awesome video, can you explain which metabones you use and how to set it up (the settings etc.) hows the AF when paired with the Tokina 11-16mm because I film myself a lot.. if you could make a video about it that would be a massive help, thanks so much keep up the good work

Nobody multiplies the aperture by the crop as well!?!?!? Not a f/2.8 as I understand? (2.8 x 2 (crop factor) x .64 (MB) = f/3.584)

Hi Ryan, how is the shading in the corners with metabones plus the tokina 11- 16? Some dx lenses do have a real problem with this setup. Nice Video!

No shading issues "vignette" is not an issue! Cheers

I believe the crop is 2.0 on the GH5, but when adding the metabones and running canon glass, what is the new crop factor? Does it drop to say 1.5 for example?

Hey Ryan, really good work there! We talked about your LUT some time ago on facebook. Have a question, how did you make that visual effect on the 2 clowns, I really love that shot and would like to learn how to make it, did you do it with the Tokina as well? Thanks

I would love to know that too! That effect is great! Hopefully someone will answer :-)

you physically move closer to the subject while zooming out or vice versa you physically move away from the subject while zooming in. i believe it's called the "vertigo effect," name taken from hitchcock's film. you can read about it and watch vids on it here, but that's the general idea.

How is the af for photos with this setup?

To be honest I have not even tried. BUT I have heard it is not ideal, the metabones and Autofocus don't really go together well unfortunately

The price of the lenses is one thing. The metabones adapter is around $650.

you can buy the Viltrox EF-M2 instead of the metabones... and for around $200. Do your research on the Viltrox.

me too. it came shipped with a customs slip that has it valued at $86. incredible the amount of markup on gear... where $220 seems reasonable from the $650 yet they are all manufactured for less than $100

you restored my faith in my GH5. I didn't want to get rid of it because of its weight and versatility, so now I may trade my sigma for the canon and tokina. Thanks for sharing, dude!
@ryanjharris6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear man. I felt kinda lucky to stumble onto this awesome combo and just wanted to share, happy shooting
@KarigHutje20246 жыл бұрын
What did actually make you lose faith in the GH5? The combination of GH5 + metabones and Sigma or the camera in general?
@KINflix6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how to explain it. I felt like I got overly concerned with the technicals of the camera. That made the editing process that much longer because I'd shoot vlog, throw it into a color app, and work with it in there. Not having things native bothered me as well. I just don't have the patience to do things anymore. The camera is strong if you put effort into it. For the time and effort required, I would be tempted to go with something that gives me better results straight out of camera. I'll continue shooting with it though. It's like a civic. You can put a lot of time and money into it to make it perform as well as a baseline 3 series, or you can pay the premium and buy an M3. What camera is like the M3? TBD, haha. This is strictly subjective and my experience.
@KarigHutje20246 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you would love a 4K handheld camcorder then haha....all in one, best AF, built in microphone and light sometimes and cheap as well! :P
@KINflix6 жыл бұрын
Hahaha yea. I did shoot with that initially (miniDVs) and then the Canon Rebel series for video, GH2, Gh4, and now GH5. I just feel most comfortable with Canons but they are lacking with their video tech in regards to DSLRs.
@luminari_productions6 жыл бұрын
Does metabones and the canon lenses autofocus work? Not continuous just basic AF. Also does the IS work in most lenses with metabones? I just got the GH5 but I'm not sure if I want to start buying panny lenses or more Canon lenses.
@luminari_productions6 жыл бұрын
Just read another comment. I think I'll be sticking with Panasonic lenses to fully utilize their utility. I still use my canon lenses on my 5D Mk 3.

@raksh94 жыл бұрын
"Lightweight film maker's kit" Shows the chunky 24-70 and 70-200, the latter needing a tripod ring because its heavy enough to potentially deform the lens mount.
