I understand Skavik/Joanna couple won IDSF Youth title in 1998 and they turned pro in 2002 or something and ranked at 3rd....at British Open...and since then an ordeal began in their partnership which sometime in the following years got broken up in the following yrs...

Said it before and say it again. Slavik and Joanna were the most fresh couple in years to arrive on the scene then. What an inspiration Slavik gave me as an male Latin dancer, no ALL my inspiration. The precision vs energy, the isolation vs. agression, the kick ass but cool charisma, the brutal way to start a presentation Samba (ARD Masters Gala 2000, look it up), man, they were something different back then, subtle different but with a great impact and honest love for dance. Dancing with the heart from the inside out. Finally here was an elegant but MANLY and NATURAL dancer. Man, i miss Slavik and the combi with Joanna.

Slavic might be a champion like Watson or Cocchi, but he had a conflict character and all perspective ladies ran away from such partnership...

What was that "Espana Cani" in that Paso Doble semifinal? It was used in the 1998 "Dance With Me" movie with Vanessa Williams, and I can only think that this is Espana Cani Version no. 3 and that's all. It is a good variation of the famous Spanish Gypsy Dance song used a lot in Latin dance competition---especially in Championship Ballroom Dancing in the 1980s and 1990s, and now, those IDSF grand competitions........

Slavik's biggest mistake in his lift was breaking up the partnership with Joanna. Joanna made a world professional champion but Slavik never did.

Olga i think that slavik only won the world tittle with Joanna as amateur not as professional. I think he competed professional with Joanna for one year and came second to Brian Watson and Carmen. He also ran second to Michael and Joanna when he danced with Karina. Second is still very good but nobody cares about second place. Right?

@@joetesta3352 my dear dancesport comment friend & allie :) Still good 2nd place. But he didn't compete as an pro with Joanna. Karina danced with Louis in 2000 as Pro's. In 2001 Slavik started with Karina as a pro, but i'm not sure Joanna went with Louis.

Second Slavik big mistake - do not receive Yulia for partner, then she dropped Maxim , and not talented Ricardo 7 times champion now w her . But Slavik - NEVER..... Very sad for me...

Well, somewhere in another video i dropped the suggestion of uniting Slavik & Yulia. But the general opinion on that was that the combined ego's wouldn't work...

I thought the partnership of Riccardo and Yulia was an arranged partnership by a top world-class coach. I don’t think (though I could be wrong) that Yulia was ever even a possibility for Slavik. I was at Yulia’s last USDC with Maxim and everyone already knew that was their last comp because she was partnering with Riccardo. I don’t know how everyone knew that then, but we did....which means she and Maxim didn’t split up leaving her open for other dancers to audition with

nykids lee That may be - there may have been talk about her dancing with Slavik at one point. But, when she did her last USDC with Maxim, we all knew the next time we saw her she was going to be dancing with Riccardo - and we all knew which coach set the whole thing up. I don’t know Slavik personally, but I’ve heard he’s hard on his partners. And I admit that could be wrong since it came to me as normal industry gossip, which means it has to be taken with the grain of salt. But, if there’s any truth to that rumor, that might be why she chose not to? Because even though he didn’t have a partner, how many partners had he gone through by that point? Sometimes people are really really professional and goal-oriented - making them excellent competitor - and other times they’re artistically motivated to express themselves, which is always very beautiful and moving - like Slavik. But that doesn’t necessarily mean such tortured artists make the best long-term world champions. But that’s just my own guessing, I freely admit I could be wrong. Maybe all the long-term champions are somewhat tortured artists??? Though my experience seems to confirm they are usually more disciplined

Well according to my sources it Ricardo was dating Shirley Ballas and Shirley broke up Max and Yuliya’s partnership to put Ricardo and Yulia together as she believed Yulia would be the best partner for Ricardo going forward... I Remember Shirley coming to Semley when they were first put together and saying how good they are together... it was obviously the right move for Ricardo though ;)
