The 2014 WR Class Was HISTORICALLY BAD (What Happened to Them?)

The 2014 group of WRs had a lot of potential, but pretty much all of them became busts and flamed out, so why were they so bad?

What many miss in Allen Lazard's game is his blocking ability. He's one of the better blocking wideouts on the Packers squad. Plus earlier this season he went to coaches at halftime of a game where they had a special teams blunder and asked what he could do to help on special teams. Really good dude he is.

Chronic knee issues early in his Buckeyes career ruined what was supposed to be a star (based on talent expectations and ideal fit in Urban Meyer’s offensive scheme) college career. I’m just happy he didn’t decide to call it quits prior to his junior year and ended up being a fantastic rotation receiver in that group WR with Parris Campbell, Terry McLaurin, KJ Hill, Bin Victor, & Austin Mack. I’ll always remember that Penn St comeback game in the Shoe when JD caught 2 TDs

Dupre had a major problems that was on him, but also on LSU WR coaching after Landry and Beckham left (our long time WR coach went to the NFL) plummeted. During this time (before LSU got Jefferson, Chase, and Marshall), LSU kept signing a ton of WRs and their classes looked good on paper because of the stars, but it was inflated because most were WRs. Anyway we had a bunch of athletes, not true WRs which meant a lot would be hit and Miss. Funny thing is two of the lowest rated guys were the best WRs of that group. Both were drafted (Chark and Gage), and both are doing well in the NFL. Back to Dupre, he was in the era of horrific QB play and decided to declare for the draft instead of transferring and figuring it out himself. Honestly though, his talent had peaked. The guy was physically weak. He'd get nudged out of bounds a lot on boundary routes and wouldn't fight for the ball in 50/50 spots. If you've watched LSU, all the great WRs have had that dog mentality. They fight for the ball, they are aggressive, they block aggressively, they attack the ball in the air, etc. Dupre didn't have any of that. It was no point in coming back because he was missing something that you either have or you don't.

@@dozhadeville444 Exactly! These kids need to be encouraged to get their degree and really only consider leaving if they're getting a couple million in signing bonus. While I understand it's hard to pass up that contract, it's a lot worse to end up a bust and with nothing to fall back on. For the vast majority, playing pro ball ends up being a very short time period in their lives. I think the NFL needs to be looked at as an opportunity and not as something that's inevitable.

3 “fun” facts. 1. He cousins is a HOFer and he’s not. 2. His dad died before the “best” day of his life. 3. He’s going to prison for life on a murder charge.

He's from the next town over, great talent but had issues with his attitude and thought he was more of a star than he was. a receiver from my home town went on to go play football at baylor and played alongside kd for a season and said he slacked off a lot.

Were going to start seeing this with QB rookie classes moving forward, because of franchises placing insane expectations on young qbs and being willing to move on quickly from them, with other young, underprepared qbs, that were also drafted way too early. Everyone is so desperate for their guy, they are wasting 1st and 2nds, reaching on guys that should otherwise be Rd 4-6 type guys. Another prime example, is the Jags bailing on Minshew, who despite his deficiencies, has played like Rd1 guy out of the gate, for a guy who has not. Look at the run on QBs this past draft at the end of round 2 and round 3, "experts" were immediately hyping Kellen Mond as the future, despite having (obviously) not actually seen him play much. I see this trend getting worse moving forward.
