I have now bought 3 of these. One for me, mom and my brother's family. Could only seem to get 3 to 6 years out of our previous front load washers. None of our Speed Queens have needed any repair. Much more economical than replacing junk every few years!

Thanks to this video, it made me change my mind on buying a Samsung washer & dryer. Even though the tub is a bit smaller on the Speed Queen, it was the quality of the components that made me change my mind plus it's American made. We as Americans should support our country..It should be delivered in 7 days. Thanks guys! God bless America!

you made the right choice, speed Queen washer are the best, their tub size is a bit smaller but the full cycle is only 32 min per load with extra rinse, and never an unbalance load even if the load is off balance, Speed queen's drum won't bang the hell out of the washer, it stay balance. People are deceived by the huge tub size of the Samsung, Samsung and LG suck.

My 21 year old Frigidaire washer died last week so I have just had the pleasure of purchasing one of these (except with the mechanical control panel). I remembered watching this video and knew what I wanted. It's a fantastic machine!

Our Speed Queens with mechanical dials are being delivered in about a week. Our 9 year old LG is terminally ill with a dying circuit board, and replacements are not available. It is through videos such as yours that convinced me to switch to Speed Queen. Everything you said about the machines made today is true. Besides the buttons that don't respond, we also have the mold smell, even though we dry the door and gasket as well as use bleach. Also, the whites come out dingy yellow even with Clorox. I never had that problem before with my previous top load washer. Thanks for posting this video. Not only did I learn a lot from it, but it was entertaining as well!

Reading the reviews I'm so excited to order a set of these. We have a very old maytag. It's on her last leg. Friday we close on our house and I needed a new washer and also now a gas dryer. I can't wait to show my husband the SQ! I've been reading reviews that made me so afraid to even try and buy and new washer. The nightmare of them breaking down on the first day. I couldn't imagine waiting for hours buying extra warranties and repair men that have no idea what to do with the computers in them. And to top it off they are quite expensive to gain mold and fall apart so soon. Thanks for this review! And thanks everyone in the comment section! Y'all convinced me this is the right choice!

I am an appliance tech for over 30 years and this is the best washer made and available for the money! The suspension in this design is the same as the Best made old Maytags that lasted 30 years plus! Front loaders break down right out of there one year warranty!

My Maytag washer, Model A612, series 02 , lasted over 33 years. The transmission finally locked up a few weeks ago. Parts for it have been long NLA. Thought about trying to replace the old style transmission with the slightly newer orbital transmission, but at a cost close to $400, I figured I was almost half way there towards the cost of a brand new SQ.

You guys are great! Died laughing at energy star comments! Our electric is much more expensive than water - can't see how a washer running over an hour can be called efficient!!!! Need to replace Maytag that went kaput after 15 years. Watched Samsung video and appalled at slowness and top of laundry staying at top, dry! Going to my local Speed Queen dealer tomorrow!

It's great to see people who helped build these comment on the various videos! I watched a lot of videos over the past few months and read many reviews from actual customers. Just finished buying one for my dad to replace his 20 year old Kenmore (I'll be trying it out too)! My washer is a 16 year old Kenmore front-load washer (I think even those were made sturdy back then), but will be looking at Speed Queen again when my Kenmore starts to go bad.Interestingly, the guy at the place I bought it said they have been selling tons of Speed Queens the past year, and there was someone coming in the door behind me to also get one.

I'm sure what has been flying off the floor are what we call the machines from Libra line. We just can't keep up with the orders! And that's a great thing. We are currently (shhhh, don't tell) working on the pilots for 2018. They look great! Knobs are gone and are replaced with electronics, sharp black control panels and look very clean and lean. The electronic controls allows for more settings. I'm not sure when they will be hitting the market but I'm guessing it will be mid to late 2018? I'm glad you appreciate my commentary about our product. I've been there almost 4 yrs and I'm so proud of what we produce. We all are. There are very stringent guidelines and tests that our products go through even before they get boxed up and shipped. All of us in Ripon, WI at Alliance Laundry want our customers to be happy with your purchase. We may only have to sell you one or two sets of machines in your lifetime but that is better than selling you 3 or 4 cheap sets. Happy washing and drying!

Thank you, Becky! I can assure you, although we made this video with a bit of crude humor (as we had no idea just how thoroughly these machines really were built at the time,) they have stood up to major use and abuse. They even handle 7-foot mascot costumes (which weigh over a hundred pounds when wet) and just churn happily away. When we're done washing them on Delicate, we cancel and do a standalone spin for high speed... and as soon as we hit "start," it spins right up to speed without breaking a sweat. I even washed one single pillow to check how it would balance. When spin started, it did one quick wobble and the suspension said *NOPE!* and held tight... that one pillow went right up to full speed, and I placed a glass of water on the machine to show just the barest vibration. As we speak, they're 15 feet away, and haven't had one single problem, and I cannot imagine any pair with harder use on them other than actual commercial use.

I just bought these and I'm so excited. 11 years in our current home and on to my 3rd washer. I played the game today and went to a big box store first, even though I knew I wanted the SQ. I really don't want a washer that can connect to my cell phone, thank you very much. I want it to clean the heck out of my clothes, not break down or rust, be off balance and refuse to drain. The big box guy's eyes lit up when I said what I really wanted....a Speed Queen. He worked at the store I ended up buying these from and basically told me that there was no comparison between the SQ and the stuff he was selling. I went through the process of picking and choosing an LG washer/dryer set that is front load, only to have a grand total of $2500 with shipping, install, and warranties. Huh? I got this set without having to buy a warranty as the parts and labor are guaranteed by SQ for 5 years. I did spring for a stainless hose..yippee and still came in WAY under the $2500. The salesperson said their service techs love the SQ and they only have about 2 calls a year on these. The biggest "repair issue" is that the hose is stuck too far down the drain and the power of the water coming out sprays back into the hose. I can handle that. I can't handle a big rusty bucket that doesn't get my clothes clean!
@borregoimages8117
@borregoimages8117 7 жыл бұрын
Melanie Hameed Why would service techs like this machine? They're not paid to twirl their thumbs waiting for a repair...You'd think they'd like something that gives them a reason to exist. I own a Samsung top loader, yeah, the ones that supposedly explode. That I've never had a problem with, partly due to the fact that I sort out my families clothes with several totes for different fabrics and follow the directions like stated in my manual. And have had no problem with my units. And, my unit like most people aren't aware of has 1 year for parts and labor, 3 years on the control board, 5 years on the tub and 10 years on the direct drive motor that I anticipate will never give me a problem. But, to sacrifice the happiness of my home for a machine that sports a tiny 3.3 cuft drum valued at 400 dollars more per unit to do smaller loads per wash cycle with an incredibly aggressive agitator tesring apart your delicate clothes that does not guarantee cleaner clothes, no thanks. I'm not sold nor am I interested.

Thanks for the review. I have been dealing with a front load Maytag that leaves my clothes stinky after washing them for 2 hours. I heard that Speed Queen had discontinued these great models and felt I was probably out of luck, but I called around and a dealer actually had 2 of the awn82 models left! I grabbed one today! It took 30 min and my clothes were clean and smelled clean!

I have a 94 Maytag and The agitator moves the clothes from top to bottom every few seconds. The Speed Queen sales lady told me to keep my 94 Maytag. She said you'll never get another machine like it. This video proves she is right. I know why they made the agitator like this. It's because they don't want the clothes to be tied into knots. I still love my 94 Maytag. Your video is great. Raytheon also used to own Amana at one time also. The Speed Queen washers and dryers in the laundry area at my apartment complex were manufactured when Speed Queen was owned by Raytheon. I have a Roper set from around 2006 that still works great. It does have a suspension system (but the springs are smaller than the one in your Speed Queen), and a tub brake.
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 9 жыл бұрын
+Joel Hunt Raytheon owned Amana until 1997 (when Amana was still quality,) but as of 2002, Amana has been part of Whirlpool, which decided Amana should be one of their "value brands." Our SQ set is still built from 80s technology that hasn't changed a bit... other than the electronic control panels now being outfitted with blue LEDs instead of vacuum fluorescent displays. (Which were made by Futaba until they stopped making VFDs and forced Raytheon/Alliance to choose another display method.)

Hi guys, and thanks for the really great demo of your new Speed Queen washer... I'm on my second front loader; the first was a Kenmore Elite made in Germany by Whirlpool that I bought new in 1999; the bearing went last year, so I bought another Whirlpool front loader, based on the service life of the first washer. My only complaint with mine is that I always have to add enough water to the tub, other than that, it works very well. I have a hose arrangement set up to add the water for all the cycles. My front loaders have never developed that moldy stink that a lot of other people experience, and that may be due to the fact that I leave the door ajar. I am going to seriously consider a Speed Queen washer like yours, though, not only as a backup, but also for things that I think would just wash better in a top loader. Thanks again!
@HarleyBadger

We've had our Speed Queen washer and dryer for 2 months. What a difference they have made! Our clothes are cleaner, and if this makes any sense, they actually feel better. So far, we've only used the Heavy Duty / Permanent Press Cycle, and have yet to need a second rinse. The matching dryer is fantastic. Everything comes out dry the first time. Also the lint screen catches everything and doesn't let lint escape into the exhaust duct. The LGs were terrible, and I'm glad to have replaced them with something that works and will last!

Edit to add: if you are in or near South Philly, Dominicks on W. Passyunk Ave, 19145 is where we got our same models from. I can't believe I just watched an hour long video of a washer and dryer. But a few months before you posted this video I bought the same exact models. I am extremely happy with them. 1 Plus that you guys didn't mention (because it may not have been an issue for you guys) is that Speed Queen is the ONLY brand where they can be easily user disassembled to fit through small non standard sized doors and stair-cases. The only thing that would have fit through our basement staircase was Speed Queen (disassembled) or extremely small front loaders that only do small loads and come with all the drawback of front loaders. Anything else would have required completely removing our stair case and a portion of our floor to fit anything else down. And since as first time home owners we figured we will spend the extra money for the full size Speed Queens and from the great reviews we read about them. I'm still watching videos like yours because of the high expense (we bought a very cheap house because it's all we could afford and almost $2k was a major expense) but $10ish per load at the laundromat the machines have probably already half paid for themselves. The only complaints I have are that I would have preferred mechanical knob controls over the electronic, but like you we were limited on what was available and it was this or the more expensive one that you guys talked about. So we went with this, the less options on the machine the less can go wrong. And I am dissapointed at the volume of the signal sound, I can't hear it at it's loudest setting on the first floor. The small store calls this brand part of their "South Philly Special", because it will fit through small doorways and staircases that are very common here, same things for furnaces, beds, water heaters, etc... It's not buyers remorse it's just reminding myself that we spent our hard earned money on quality machines.
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 9 жыл бұрын
+irishharp2m6 You make excellent points! And yep, the signal is too quiet. Although for us anyhow, we tend to start laundry and then be elsewhere anyhow. And that hard-earned money will last you for years.

Speed Queens have pretty much all metal interior parts and they are advertised as reliable. Even if some of the parts were made in China, it’s still pretty much all metal. The only part that isn’t metal is probably the agitator or the balance ring or the bleach dispenser. Direct drives have a lot more plastic than a Speed Queen. There might even be some rare direct drives with plastic tubs.

Just waiting for delivery on the same washer and electric dryer. We inherited a 1974 Kenmore washer. Lasted 11 years. Kicking myself for not repairing it. Started researching. I got overwhelmed at the choices. I just wanted a simple washing machine like my 1974 Kenmore. Well they don't exist! Bought a used Whirlpool that matched our 10 year old dryer. Started leaking 2 years later. Decided to research again, almost bought a LG. Then remembered Speed Queen. So excited to get my first new set and hope they last until I'm a grandma.

I'm thinking I can just unscrew the metal rod hinge that is attached to the right of the lid and bend it over so it just lays flat on the washer and does not come in contact with the lid when its opened, that way when I open the lid, it will just lay there on the washer and not do nothing at all????? Sounds like its activating the swith, using the metal piece on the right side of the washer lid...........

I purchased a speed queen washer in April of 2016 - not with electronic controls. I also wanted a regular agitator - wasn't impressed with new style. I did alot of research on machines, because I don't want to have buy another piece of imported junk! Yea, it was more money, but it's made in the USA and my clothes have never been cleaner! Will be buying the dryer when the one I have goes!

I love the old school top loaders, but I also love my front loader. My front loader is a Whirlpool duet ht 3.8 cu.ft + I have the matching dryer, they will be 16 years old on the 20th of January, and they are still working with no issues. 30 minutes to wash, 30 minutes to dry. I love the set because it uses a lot of water, while still getting the clothes clean, and then spin dries so well that it only takes 30 minutes to dry a full load. Surprisingly, I have had no issues with mold, mildew, or even a foul odor. Hopefully when I buy a house in the coming years, I will have 2 laundry rooms. One with the whirlpools + my LG set, and the other with a speed queen set. Best quality brand I know is speed queen.

6:10 Beg my pard! Thanks for the shoutout! I can SMELL the quality of those. I highly recommend you rig up sprinkler valves like I did to shut water to the hoses/machine after a timer expires. Can't prevent a flood, but can stop it early. Wow, a metal wash tub, and real suspension springs! Great idea to disable the lid switch. You might want to consider installing a "lid switch disable switch" in the back like I did for mine, that way you can initiate a pause with the lid open. I heard everything you said about the electronic controls being able to last. I believe it, but still have my trepidation. Then again, my old GE washer was actually an electronic panel, but it still had a knob you could "advance" to rinse or spin or whatever you wanted. That also used relays for everything, hot valve, cold valve, drain pump, high speed winding, and low speed winding. I still have the control board somewhere, not like I need it, but when you're a hoarder you tend to keep these things, "just in case". Interesting how the time required to complete the cycle INCLUDES the fill time! They don't call them Speed Queen for nothing! Spats, you ALWAYS need to donate blood to a project to ensure it goes smoothly. The rug burn counts. In these parts, we use steel pipe for gas. Gas connections use special gas pipe thread sealant that's brushed on, not teflon. Also requires a "drip leg" and tee, the flex line is hooked to the side portion of the tee, the other outlet is a short pipe and cap. Again, that's what's code HERE, or it least it was last I did gas work. Your jurisdiction probably varies--you 2 are pretty smart guys and it seems you've done plenty of research on all of this. I have Gain Flings ;-) And just think, they used to GIVE THESE AWAY on Let's Make A Deal back in the 70's! I wish you the best with them!
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 9 жыл бұрын
+jaykay18 Oh that's a good idea! Especially once we get the drywall in, can't be too careful. This one actually has a pause button that stops everything and then picks right back up where if left off when you press it again. We too approached the control panel with a bit of trepidation. No matter the quality, it still contains sort of "wear" items such as electrolytic caps, and of course relays have a finite number of "clickies" in their lives, but we're hoping the combo of better-quality electronics (they're mostly Omron and Motorola components) and the fact that the rest of the machine is so solid, even if we have to replace the panels in a few years, we'll be happy. Plus they look really easy to recap (only like 5 electrolytics) or re-relay. So far, I have found the washer timer to be exact and the dryer timer to be approximate. The manuals show what water pressure to use in order to help this. The gas line has a tee and short piece off to the side like you mention, however it's a bit upstream of the dryer. I cheated just a bit and called a plumber friend of mine and he talked me through some of it. That pipe is being replaced just before the walls go up, so we didn't worry too much about it. And Gain Flings are the shit! They hit the Mad Notes! :-)

Okay, as another comment to be separate from my other one. I am pretty sure these bad boys will last you a long time! My issues with the electronic controls is that you still lose so many abilities without the mechanical ones. Such as moving the time back or forward to any point you want (although it looks like the dryer lets you adjust the time). And also, unless there is some kind of battery or something, the machines may not remember where they were in the cycle if a power failure occurs. That's happened with us a couple of times with our Whirlpools. Thankfully the mechanical timers kept everything exactly where they were. That being said, I know this isn't fault of you guys, that's Speed Queen's doing, and these are really the best ones that you can get today. In 30 years, I'll be 57. haha

+RandomVideosHD Yes! Keep in mind that whether mechanical timer like yours, or electronic panel like ours, they're all controlled by the same relay box. Yours hits a spot on the timer and activates a relay, so do the ones with electronic controls. In your case, there is not the full motor current going through the timer, which makes for increased reliability.

+harleybadger1 what do you do when you want to add more time to the wash cycle? Also on this model do water level reach the rim of the tub? For that to happen on my model I had to drop the panel and turn the screw on the water level knob.
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 9 жыл бұрын
RandomVideosHD You don't really have an easy option to add more time, you simply select a higher "soil level" and it adds a few minutes for each higher level you select. In the rare event that's not enough, you can pause and soak, or you can add a pre-wash and/or second rinse. And it fills to the rim.

I love speed queen, but I do have a front loader from '04 and it is still going. The quick wash cycle, with a wash + 2 rinses + 1100 rpm spin is 30 minutes. Normal wash is the same thing, but 40 minutes. Heavy Duty is 50 minutes with HOT, but if we want the water EXTRA hot, its more like an hour, hour and ten. I think the cost is about the same as the speed queen TL.

I have the appliance repair plan with the gas company so they sent a tech out free of charge and he said something was defective either the control board(manual controls) or a sensor i don't remember what was said. He said he had to order parts. Get a call 2 days later saying it can't be fixed as the cost of repair would exceed the value of the unit( I paid $279 for it from a 2nd hand appliance store) and the problem seamed to be getting worse so I was like enough of this.

After 19 years of continuous use my Whirlpool washer's agitator stopped agitating. I put in a new $3 set of agitator dogs and now it's about 22 years old and still going strong. When it does finally clap out I'll be getting a Speed Queen TC5003WN. I'm in no hurry though as like I said, the old Whirlpool is still going strong. Who knows, maybe by the time it does quit for good I'll have enough socked away to buy the matching Speed Queen dryer, lol. I want the TC5 because it has mechanical controls. I've had bad luck with digital controls in the past. Everything from voltage surges burning them out to just the modules themselves going bad. Have never had any problems with manual controls. They usually outlast whatever appliance I've had. 2nd reason is that the TC series have a traditional agitator and transmission whereas the TR series doesn't and doesn't clean the clothes as well.

Be thankful you got your Speed Queen when you did. I saw videos on the 2018 models, & I don't like how they act more like an HE top loader, than a traditional top loader. The agitator is bolted to the tub, brake eliminated, & unless you select deep fill, it senses the load to determine how much water to use. The turnover is horrible on the 2018 models. Now for the set you have, it's nice. Both a top loader and a front loader do equally well at getting clothes clean. I have a preference toward front loaders, just because for me, I find that my jeans get cleaner in a front loader, because they turnover better in a front loader. As for front loaders, I agree to an extent with you that today's front loaders for the residential market are crap with the settings required for energy star standards. The Frigidaire front loader I bought in 1999 used enough water to get my clothes clean, & the longest cycle was only 50 minutes. After my Hotpoint gas dryer quit working completely, & the Frigidaire washer was about to break down , I replaced both with an LG set. I wanted a Speed Queen front loader set, but I didn't have close to $3000 for a set (in 2012, their front loader alone was going for around $1700 - $1800), and had to settle on the LG set instead. Initially, my LG washer did not use enough water, but I was fortunate to see videos on how to adjust the water level. I got it set to closely resemble the water level of my old front loader, & I no longer have problems with clothes not getting clean. I hate the load sensing, but there's nothing I can do about that, as I would have to know how to hack the control board for everything. I only use the normal cycle, an extra rinse (does 2 by default, but I add an additional rinse for 3 rinses), & depending on the weight & soil level for the load, I'm lucky if I can get away with 1 hour. Since the capacity is a bit larger than my old front loader, I actually do fewer loads. I will however disagree with you to an extent on that top loaders use less electricity than front loaders. It depends on the load, but I do agree that front loaders don't need all those extra loads. No load needs to run for 2 hours or more. With the last 2 top loaders I owned, a Kenmore and a Hotpoint, used more electricity in 30 to 40 minutes than my last front loader, & current front loader that ran for up to 1 hour. The reason I knew my last 2 top loaders used more electricity, is because I saw how quickly my meter changed in electrical usage. My front loaders running barely changed the usage. As for water usage, my current home and the home before my last were on well water & septic tank, that the well didn't run often,, & the septic tank didn't have to work hard to drain the waste water. My last home, despite my water usage overall, the landlord was wondering what we were doing that despite our large household, that we used less water than a 2 or 3 family household. The front loader helped us with having a water bill of no more than $30 a month. My washer has held up for 6 years now, & I hope it holds up for a few more years. I eventually want to upgrade to a larger capacity, so i will do even fewer loads. Anyway, good luck on your set. You won't get another good set like that from Alliance Laundry again, now that their 2018 models are crap. I believe they'll exit the residential market after the 2018 models, as I hear that they already stopped making front loaders for the residential market, due to not selling enough residential front loaders.

Even the touch pad has a five year warranty, theyre referred to as being "mil-spec" grade. Also you can get to the lid switch from the rear to defeat it without even raising the top. The 25 year figure refers to how long they project it will remain serviceable, and the inner and outer tubs are LIFETIME warranted. I have one of the mechanical timer 2016 versions and im totally pleased with mine. And you guys are so right, buy one Speed Queen for 20+ years or buy a new HE junk pile every three years. My 40 year old 1977 GE filterflo that was left to me when my aunt passed away in the mid 80's lasted 40 years and is still going, its built like a tank but the outer tub finally started to show signs of rusting out at the top. So I went washer shopping for the first time in decades and was shocked at the drop in build quality. I wasn't fooled for a minute by the flashing lights, fancy paint jobs and show tunes - only took one visit to the big box stores to decide on a Speed Queen and glad I did. Finding the parts and a spanner wrench is still easy. Getting the tub out after many years the effects of water, soap, bleach etc. on the locking nut under the agitator can be a pita. Our Maytag washer and dryer lasted 21 years. They were also digital display models. The water pump was becoming noisy. First one started leaking many years ago. There was an issue with the tub brake. It would agitate but when the motor reversed to spin, the tub brake would seem to release but the tub was froze and the belts would slip and screech. If you helped it would start and spin. The computer control system would intermittently freeze. You'd have to unplug the washer for it to reset and then was fine for many months. The computer had not been available in over 10 years. It was time to replace them. I see the model you bought has no soak cycle. The front loaders we bought in Jun of 2015 has all of the features in the highest model top model. Before Maytag changed their transmission system on home models (08, 10, 12 models) it also had a long stroke agitation. The local Maytag dealer told us when we were shopping for new to get the Speed Queen not the Maytag as Whirlpool owns the company (for several years now) and it's just not the same. As you can see here, the Speed Queen difference! During testing Speed Queen Washers are run 10,400 cycles. *Speed Queen Commercial-Quality Washers for the Home * kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZvNo5V-qNt9q80 Another great thing about the Speed Queen dryer is it gives you an estimate on the display of how many minutes are left in the drying cycle in moisture sense mode. The Maytag (not even the electronic one) would do that. The Speed Queen dryer has a 1/3HP motor where at the competition has only a 1/4HP motor. You can use soap suds and a brush to detect for a gas leak. The gas valve should turn to the left using a T and with a 4" short piece connected into the down end of the T and capped as a sediment catch. This keeps sediment from inside the black iron gas pipe from getting into the valves in the dryer or burner orifice.
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 8 жыл бұрын
Heya Don, Yup, we have the spanner wrench, just waiting for the time to obtain and replace the tub bearing on the Maytag and they'll be back in service. Fortunately, since I *caused* a gas leak, the local gas company came by and tested the entire house for leaks, replaced ALL the valves, and the gas meter (!) since this video. Gotta give props and a special shout out to Peoples Gas of Pittsburgh PA for doing ALL that FREE of charge. We would have spent $50 in valves alone.

Does it give you a true tap-hot water wash? had a Hurlpoop that would not provide a wash temp over 73 degrees F, even with a 140 degree tap temp at the washer inlet hose. The dogs on the Hurlpoop auger-type dasher knocked as loudly as a jackhammer during agitation, not a plus when installed in the laundry room that backed up to the head of the bed in my Mother's sick room. The LG top-loader doesn't balance worth a damn, doesn't rinse well unless you do the fabric softener option with a second rinse, and takes almost two hours for the normal cycle. It is quiet, though.

+5610winston It does give a true tap-water wash. It just has 2 solenoids. Either one fully on for cold, one fully on for hot, and both on for warm.

Great machines we are saving up for them, the dryer interior is " Commercial Steel" which is galvanized steel, not stainless, per Speed Queen.

My mind is made up after seeing your video. I am getting ready to move into a new house, and I am going to my Speed Queen dealer tomorrow to talk to them about these and see how they compare in pricing. Since I don't have a gas hookup for a dryer, I will likely have to get the electric dryer. I'm impressed with the spin drain that these do. I remember the GE filter-flo washers used to do that. If I choose to buy the Speed Queen units, I am prepared to pay $1,700 or $1,800 for the set, but I think it would be worth it. I'm tired of the other crap at Lowe's, Menards and Home Depot. I currently have a 2008 GE set, and the washer is making some weird noises, and mice have gotten into the control panel and chewed off some of the wire insulation and made a nest in there. (How they got in there, I have no idea) I'll keep you posted!

Harley Badger I have the electronic 9 series and I love the set. I made a recent reply regarding the ability to add more wash time with mechanical controls and wanted to re-emphasize that YOU CAN do the same with the electronic panel. PRESS THE CANCEL BUTTON ONE TIME and it will reset to the original washtime. You can also change any other settings then restart the wash. When alliance made these they made sure whether you got the electronic panel or mechanical knobs you had equal wash options. Everything else we use in our lives is electronic in some way except for maybe the battery clock on the wall. I just don't want to see people overlook the electronics thinking it's short somehow...it's not! But it's whatever each one is happy with not just now, but for the long run.

Harley Badger Could you please do a video showing how to use the cancel button to add additional wash time on the electronic panel? Not everyone will read all the comments, but they will watch you guys run through a demonstration. The dryer resets and can be changed the same way. Please do it, and thx for your reply!

I got this model delivered the other day. I Purchased a GE about 3 weeks ago to replace my old ge which broke. But the new GE GTW485 came out of balance a lot. Although you could override the fill options and fill it up with water, it had weak agitation, Tons of vibration in spin (freight train sounds in spin) I know with the poor design and build quality it would not last for years like they use too. So I told them to pick it up and then went to another appliance store and buy a Speed Queen and it works great! btw GE appliance division was just sold to Chinese company Haier so you know there product will go all mfg and assembled in China soon. NO more GE anythings for me.

What was that noise during the spin cycle? Not the whistling sound, it was more of a bushing sound. The washer was empty, and it started right as it started on spin and continued throughout.

I thought technology would make things better, well it made somethings better (Internet, faster computers, communication, ect.) but I guess there's a downside to it. Good old simple mechanics are much better. Now that is a real washing machine you got there. I really like that you guys were really happy about this machine. It actually scared me a bit about how fast it was going, real quality motor. I also like that the controls were simple, not filled with a bunch of features that makes using it complicated. Nice video I enjoyed it

Just out of curiosity,..what brand of detergent and softener do you like to use? I like to use "All" w/ stain lifters detergent and I use either Snuggle or Downey softener sheets for the dryer. I don't use liquid softener!
@HarleyBadger
@HarleyBadger 9 жыл бұрын
+KC9SYJ We us Gain Flings for detergent, Gain Fireworks as a scent additive, and Gain softener for the final rinse. Nothing in the dryer. (Dryer sheets can gum up the lint filter and the works, as they contain wax that deposits on the internals of the dryer)

Nineteen years and three months of daily, trouble-free use is *very impressive.* Bet you won't be able to say that about the stuff that comes off the assembly line today, with the exception of the Speed Queen stuff you have! Gas dryers are so much more efficient than the electric models, and likely cheaper to run because natural gas prices are falling like a rock. (Maybe I'm out of line, but I think Harley shouldn't be handling sharp objects after sipping on what appears to be a screwdriver, unless that's just orange juice.)
