Very nice and concise review. I drive a 2018 X1 2.0d and want to upgrade 'solely for the extra boot storage to accommodate bikes without removing the wheels' hence considering the X3. At the same time I loathe the sound of the diesel engine and would have preferred a petrol engine. The 2020 X3 2.0 d M Sport is a great package but is worth my while to go for the X3 3.0i instead? What do you think?

That's a tough one. The 2.0d is good, far better than the 2.0d in my F Pace. I can't recall whether bmw pipe sound through the speakers for the X3, not sure they do. I had a 3.0d 640GC and that sounded incredible, couldn't hear the diesel at all, just the subtle speaker noises and I benefitted from good mileage and superb performance. In the current climate, with everyone looking down on diesels anyway I'd probably look to the petrol model, the only issue you'll find there is that there are pretty much 5 diesel models on offer for every 1 petrol, so finding one in the right colour with the right spec that's a reasonable distance away will be tricky. Yes I thought that while filming it. First owner clearly didn't care about looking after the paint. It needs a good polish. Black cars are a nightmare. Had one once and never again.
