The biggest difference between the M5 and M550i isn't the sticker price, its the difference in residual. The M550i retains its value better and is much less expensive to lease.

Not exactly the same, but when I was looking at X5s (~2016 MY), I was looking strongly into the 50i model. Mainly, I didn't want the reduced reliability of the X5M since it is basically a tune up from the 50i powertrain-wise. For my use case as a daily, the comfort was a big factor for me and the occasional opportunity to show off the speed didn't outweigh the desire for comfort on long road trips and daily commuting. It felt like the 50i was a more "rational" decision than the X5M. *Stop reading if you want to end on a good note* I ended up getting a 40e because the hybrid powertrain slots between the base 35i and 50i in terms of performance, but returns better fuel economy. I also like the whole "plug-in hybrid lifestyle" and the standard comfort suspension. Reliability on the CPO has been a non-issue and I still love it 6 months/10k miles in.

So i've heard the M-Adaptive suspension really helps with the ride comfort. I also rode one with just the sport suspension on runflat tires, and it was very harsh. Good Review. The gesture control is kinda gimicky, but I found myself liking it. The volume gesture is a full hand motion, not just the finger ;)

The 2019 makes slightly more power than noted by BMW (480HP). Most people don't realize with a tune the M550i is close to 600HP and can do the 1/4 mile in high 10s.

I have a 2019 M550 and I love it. Comfort and performance in one package. And an M5 just doesn't make sense in busy urban traffic.

I’ve got a ‘16 with 445 hp/482 lb ft. Torque, and I LOVE my analog dash display. I’ve got a HUD so that’s what I’m looking at. Soft close doors too. My point is that in the next few months I’m saving up and going to get a chip put in and reprogram the exhaust to get those pops n bangs.

@@miketheman4341 Same torque also than the M5 - just wait for the Dinan stage 1 and that won't void the warranty. Around 1,5K for stage 1. and easily get 50 HP more

The 550 is made for a family of 4 that doesn’t plan to go to the track and doesn’t want to spend 120K. This a a fantastic tuned down 5 series for 40K less.

I bought a 540i last year and i think the power is good, lets face it a 4.5 second car is no dog, but where i love the car and probably will get another one, I think the M550i will probably have less drama making speed than the 540i. Trust me I need less drama in my life!

An M5 can cost $120k fully loaded and has astronomical insurance costs. With an M550i you get basically the same car, same engine for $30k less and cheaper insurance rates. This engine can be easily tuned to M5 levels of power. Side note: $88k really isn’t that bad considering how much car prices have bloated in recent years. A fully loaded E60 gen 550i M Sport had a sticker price of $80k. I’m impressed.

Very surprised at the thumb rating on this video, not fair at all. From the UK, seems like a fair and balanced review. Keep up the good work - it will appeal to a wide audience. We’ve only had the M550i in our market for 6-12 months, now replacing the 540i. We don’t have an ‘ordinary’ M5 now either. It’s the Competition or the CS. So the M550i is almost fulfilling the role of the ordinary M5. But there is the real question, pre-owned M540i, M550i or M5 competition 🤔

I’ve got a 2018, with 55k miles! Surprisingly, zero issues. Oddly enough, it’s the exact same spec and options as the one you are reviewing. If you’re ever in Florida and want to review an LC500 let me know!

There's no comparison between this car and the 540. The 550 is pretty close to the M5 and for the business exec or the family that doesn't want the rough ride or track capabilities of the M5(not to mention $20k less) this is perfect. This bridges the gap between the 540 and M5.

I’ve driven brand new 3 and 4 series recently on road trips and I can confirm that getting back into my 5 series is a massive jump in luxury. Auto stop/start is disabled in sport mode and you can completely disable it with BIMMERCODE from your iPhone. Also…they do not drink oil my longer. I’ve put 30,000 miles on mine and it’s stage 2 tuned. It drinks no oil. I’ve installed catch cans and can confirm that there is never any oil to dump out. I want to like your video, but maybe do some more extensive research on the vehicle before making such assumptions as the “we know this thing drinks oil” comment. It’s $25,000 less than the M5. Of course it’s overshadowed. An Audi A7 is overshadowed by the RS7.
