Hope you all have some amazing plans for 4th of July this week! Get out there and spend time with friends, family, and drive those fun cars ;) We’ll have some more fun cars for the channel soon, until then... please enjoy our updated review on the refreshed Nissan Murano. Some of you may notice the audio is slightly off on certain clips, it’s because we had some horrible interference during filming that wasn’t noticed until after Nissan picked up the car. We tried our best to match the voiceover to what was said in the clip. Stay tuned for an update video on our long term Porsche 718 Cayman going live very soon!

@@christophermaize3563 A LOT of Americans, like myself, have grown tired of weak ass 4 cylinder CUV's / SUV's, like the Toyota RAV-4 or even the Nissan Rogue (My GF owns one..that 170 HP engine is pitiful and the handling truly sucks, I'd never buy one). The CUV has the same 3.5L V6 engine used in the previous Nissan 350Z, although the HP is less, which is what attracts me to the Murano. Am I 100% in love with the new design language vs previous Murano versions? No, but it still looks pretty good and offers a good value for the price with extra room that is sometimes needed, especially if you're a Uber or Lyft driver or hauling kids. Also, I've owned mostly sports cars or sports coupes/sedans, so I'm far from your typical "box on wheels driving American", a LOT of us are driving enthusiasts. Anything else you'd like to add?

You need to stop putting so much emphasis on things like acceleration. Customers in that car buying segment don’t care it takes a whole 1 second slower to get to 60 mph compared to whatever else there is. It’s not going to help people get to their destinations any quicker. It’s a Murano, not a Mustang GT or Camaro SS.

Sorry to disagree but after several test drives (models included in this review) the Murano beat them all. Love our new car. You were correct about the comfort, especially on road trips. And SO quiet you can barely hear the 18-wheeler or motorcycles you pass. Having eleven Bose speakers doesn’t hurt either. You were also correct about the gas mileage. It’s great. And say what you will about the turbo 4-cylinder, this 6-cylinder feels SO much better in highway traffic. And as for “feel” it made a couple of the others feel like driving a Lego. Everyone is different on what is important to them. I like comfort, easy controls, great sound, great ride, and some space in the back. The Murano was worth every penny. (And it was a lot less than some of the others we test drove.)

I'm a card carrying member of the anti-CVT brigade but I'm not a fanatic. There's no question that all CVT's are not equally objectionable nor that the CVT's of close to a decade ago are the standard by which more recent models should be judged. It's noteworthy that reviewers in the last couple of years frequently note that CVT's are "surprisingly" unnoticeable in their behavior. The advantage of CVT's in terms of fuel efficiency is undeniable. And refinements in design will continue to improve their behavior. At this point, I have the greatest reservations about their applications in large, heavy vehicles with larger displacement engines.

Same here. I'll take a CVT any day over a manual just for the comfort and convenience and over a traditional auto for the reliability and fuel efficiency. Do I miss my old manual? Yes, and I still like to pretend I'm shifting stick while I drive my 2018 Altima. But you'll only really appreciate a manual in less than 10% of all your driving scenario's, unless you drag race for a career. For someone like me who values fuel efficiency, reliability and convenience, CVT's are great. Throw in paddle shifters and you have the icing on the cake. CVT haters really need to get over it.

You know, people bad mouth the CVT, but my 2018 Murano is the 3rd Nissan vehicle I have owned with the CVT and I really like how smooth it is. Acceleration is fine with the CVT and V-6. The most impressive thing is the gas mileage. I just came back from a week's vacation at the beach. My total mileage for the trip was 1367 miles for the week and I averaged 32.6 mpg for the entire trip. On the drive down and back, I was right at 34.0 mpg with a fully loaded car, 2 people, luggage, food and 2 sets of golf clubs. Also there is no auto start/stop on this car. It's hard to argue with Nissan's use of a CVT.

Reviewers typically rely on vehicles provided in "press fleets" by manufacturers. They're provided with top trim models because manufacturers want to showcase the best they have to offer. I have a 2018 Nissan Murano, and it rides smooth, and with plenty of pep, if I need it for passing, or getting out of situations . The seats are exceptionally comfortable, they use memory foam like cushion to reduce fatigue, when driving long distance.(zero gravity seat). I was cruising 65 mph; and the tachometer was at 1400 RPM, about 800RPM's above idol. Thanks to the CVT's economy design. If you care about what it does from 0-60. Buy a sports car, not an SUV!

I’ll take Nissan CVT’s any day just for their efficiency and reliability. I’ve owned two Altima’s and Nissan continuously keeps making them bette. My 2017 really feels like an automatic and I really can’t complain. You need to keep in mind that this isn’t a vehicle you’re going to take out on a racetrack anyway, and I’d happily make the trade off for comfort and efficiency over sportiness when I’d prefer the former in 90% of my driving situations. There's no big secret about Nissan's target market for the Murano. It's aimed at families with one or two kids (at most) and a mission confined to suburban errands and freeway trips. It doesn't pretend to have even mild off-road capabilities. Not suitable for canyon carving but few suburbs have canyons. Instead, it offers adequate performance, fuel economy in the mid-20's, comfortable accommodations (especially in terms of seats), an open, airy cabin and an upscale interior at a mainstream price point. It falls in the "tweener" class of crossovers in terms of length, (192"), virtually the same as an Accord or a Camry. Easy to maneuver in traffic, easy to park. If midsize two row crossovers are the station wagons of the second decade of the 21st century, the Murano is the most "wagon-y" of all. Does the Murano sound like a vehicle meant to appeal to couples and small families where the female half has at least an equal (if not dominant) voice in the purchase decision? Bingo. Will it satisfy drivers who want to project a "rugged" or high performance image with their vehicles? Of course not. If Mom and Dad have to compromise on a single vehicle there are more appealing choices in the category. But if Mom is the main driver and Dad has a car of his own, it can have a lot of appeal.

I agreed with all your conclusions. I would like to add Nissan needs to revamp its dealership network and their service departments. My advise is to stay away from the AWD as a simple transfer case leak would cost over $3,000 to fix as they need to drop the CVT to get to it. A power steering column leak would also cost over $3,000 to fix. The dealerships are now like a Bazar sales process once sold you are forgotten. Honest service reps seem to loose their jobs And even if you loved your Nissan they for sure make sure that you end up hating it.

What that "pro 30 year mechanic" fails to realise is the nissans made in America are mostly sold locally whereas the whole world gets nissans from japan or mexico, but everywhere else including Mexico nissans are of far better quality especially in the middle east where nissans and toyotas are the only cars which have good air conditioning after 5 years and unlike the kia and hyundai junk u guys have come to love, fr america isnt the whole world

Direct Injection engines can be a nightmare with Carbon build up...i like the v6 murano has now, its strong enough for commuting and city driving plus you get good gas milage. One thing i dont like is having 2WD, the power of the 6 is to much and you will want to start skidding. Get the AWD. good car though, quiet, good power, cvt is fine, good space.

Nissan's CVT transmissions get a bad rap however, looking at the 2018 "owner's reviews" on Edmunds, 85% gave them 4 or 5 stars (out of 5). I had a 2018 Murano SV as a loaner vehicle just for a day, and it drove well. Powerful engine. Probably the most comfortable vehicle seats I have ever sat in, and I've sat in virtually every non-exotic brand there is. All driver controls were exactly where I wanted them to be. I have a 2007 Nissan Altima with a CVT transmission and it has 160,000 (and counting) trouble-free miles. I have no doubt that CVT transmissions are not as durable as conventional automatics, however, I believe that the 2 keys to making them last are: 1) Strictly following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, and 2) CVT transmissions (or any non sports car transmission) are not designed to be raced from traffic light to traffic light. I do not like buying used vehicles because I see firsthand (EVERY DAY) how people abuse vehicles, trying to beat their own personal best 0 to 60 mph times....................from stoplight to stoplight. I have been driving for 30+ years, (7 vehicles) and I have NEVER had an engine or transmission problem (and I've owned 2 1990's era Fords). On the highway, I routinely drive 80mph, but I'm not racing my vehicles around town and from stoplight to stoplight. Surely, there are lemons...................BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Jaguar, etc... Every manufacturer however, if you have a decently well-made vehicle and you take care of it AND drive like you have some damn sense, much more often than not, it will take care of you.

I test drove one of those back in March. Oh that had a sweet sounding engine and getting up that hill was quiet. I enjoyed those zero g foam seats. Problem was, I couldn’t justify it even if I could have afforded it. Too big for my needs. So I went rogue sport. While I agree about the cvt, the rogue sport’s size was just right for my needs. Personally Nissan needs to just take the V6 and drop it into everything from murano down rogue and rogue sport to oh I’ll be generous and throw it in the kicks.

You do get used to the feel of the car and so after a while it does feel lighter and more fun to drive. Nissan really needs to update the styling and interior to make it more modern, though (and by "modern" I mean a little less weird-looking and a little more elegant....I told the dealer that the trim in the car I was test driving reminded me of the bathroom tile in a mobile home). But seriously, I could sleep in those seats.

My mother traded in a Cadillac XTS4 for a new Murano and she loves it. She loves the heavy feel which is what was mentioned in the video. I feel the car is designed for ppl 70 and over. I agree that the Murano isn’t very spirited. You really seem to have alot of critisizms to the Murano in this review, and you're entitled to your professional opinion. However as a Nissan Murano owner i have to say that I do beg to differ on many points. First the body styling you said, "looked like a bloated whale" is inaccurate by far. I think it's pure genius. Not only is it gorgeous, but also next level, considering that no other suv in it's class has been able to compare with the aerodynamics ever since Nissan came out with this body style. You're right that the towing capacity is lacking, but where I'm confused is you criticized the CVT. Not everyone likes it, but you test drove it and said "it's slow" and called the engine sound annoying. That's a completely different analysis than what I've heard from other reviews of the Murano. Personally I find the CVT to be very responsive and quick to accelerate especially in the higher gear ratios I have many traffic experiences to back that up. The ride is smooth and the engine has a very aggressive growl which is anything but annoying It actually adds to the enjoyment of the ride. That's been also confirmed by other reviews and Murano owners. You might not be a big fan of the Murano, and I'm not familiar with the 2019 version, but my 2020 SL in my opinion is definately a great value and a thrill to drive.

I LOVE this color combination! If I were to get the Murano Platinum, this is the exact color combination I'd get, althought the Mocha interior also looks very nice too. But for South Florida, I think the lighter interior is probably better bc of how ho it gets down here. It's almost necessary to have ventilated (aka cooled front seats) in your car with remote start with cabin temp pre-set abilities bc of how quickly cars cook in the sun here

Nice objective review. I purchased a 2019 blue Murano Platinum trim. Did lots of research. Was set on the Murano since it was the best bang for the buck. Bought on clearance for a 20% discount which sweetened the deal. Since they are in less demand, you can really bargain. Added a 6 year 100,000 mile comprehensive warranty so I’m worry free. There’s no such thing as a cheap repair so I felt it was money well spent given the discount I got. I have owned two Nissan Sentras and a Nissan Altima and they were all good reliable cars. Absolutely love the Murano. Just a unique and stylish design. I think the wheels are the best looking out of any SUV. Seats and ride are very comfortable. You don’t buy the Murano for towing or off-roading. Is designed for street. Lower ground clearance than its competitors makes entry and exit easy, but you still enjoy the feel and safety of a bigger vehicle with sitting high but still great road manners. Quiet cabin. My wife is super picky and she loves this vehicle. Infiniti like experience for almost half the price. Plus there are not a lot of them out there so you stand out. Very happy so far.

The VQ V6 used to be the gold standard of V6 engines. I owned two Altimas with that engine and it used to be great. The competition has passed that VQ engine with better horsepower, efficiency, technology and quality. Add those horrible JATCO transmissions and it's no wonder the Nissan brand is struggling. The least they can do is figure out the transmission. Quality issues aside, if they fixed the transmissions they'd be competitive again because the engines are solid, though very old.

regkarn1 engines are ok. Many of the older ones blew head gaskets and they had lots of cat problems. Overall, as Nissan’s age, I find it’s one problem after the other and at that point it’s not worth keeping these sort of cars past 120,000 miles or so

I have not seen a Nissan Murano video yet, that addresses the AWD system and how it handles in inclement weather or a steep, muddy incline. Is the AWD user selectable or does it only kick in automatically? When you consider the cost of repairing AWD systems, unless you really live a place that snows...………..a lot, it seems like the 2WD would be fine. I have a 6 cylinder 2007 Nissan Altima with 155,000 trouble free miles on it. Still runs like a champ, so the CVT transmission is not a big issue to me. I have never had an issue with feeling like I couldn't accelerate when needed. I agree with an earlier poster, every manufacturer has their lemons, however, the key to getting 200,000 miles out of a CVT transmission (or any engine/transmission) is servicing it at the recommended intervals, driving cautiously during the engine break-in period, and not doing those jackrabbit starts when the traffic light turns green. I never would have considered the Murano, prior to the dealer loaning me one while I was having some routine work done on my car. I did not get to take it on the highway, however, I had no issue with its acceleration or steering response. In the short time that I had it, I found no major faults. Seats were extremely comfortable. If I had to nit pick something, it would be that there is a blind spot at the 5 o'clock position, however many vehicles have blind spots. Based on reputation alone, there is no way I would buy a Chevy or a Ford over a Nissan, just for 20 or 30 more horsepower. If you're looking to tow 5,000 lbs, I would want a larger (3 row seating) vehicle, and perhaps an 8 cylinder engine.
@JokerG16

@Alderman Fred C. Davis I have one and I could tell you that the AWD system automatically kicks in when it feels some type of slippage. It works really well. It just takes some getting used to because other cars have an AWD lock button but this one just kicks in as it sees fit.

Really? As the owner of both a 2016 Maxima Platinum and a 2019 Murano Platinum, I think your assessment is off. I find the lines of both cars very appealing - sporty, yet you do compare the Murano to the Lexus RX 350? So how do you compare the two with a $20K difference? Next, if you don't want an American vehicle (a reputation for poor maintenance), your only other choice is a Honda Passport, which is certainly not a luxurious as the Platinum trim level. And while the 3.5 V6 delivers "only" 260hp (a tuned down Maxima engine that pumps out 300hp) nobody buys a midsize SUV to haul a 5,000 lb. camper ...try more like a 1/5 ton pickup that'll run well into the high $50-60k range, particularly with the same amenities as Murano Platinum trim level. My assessment of the Murano Platinum is it offers excellent value and great handling with a luxury vibe not offered elsewhere in this segment. For this empty nester, it is the perfect vehicle for road trips and maneuvering in and out of parking lots with ease. Finally, while the 260hp may not be as quick as the others, it is capable of highway on ramp speeds (100 mph) or passing at highway speeds when needed.

Beauty is a very subjective thing. I don't believe the Rubenesque female figure is considered as desirable today as it was 400 years ago. And so goes for vehicle styling. Tail fins were all once the rage and even Mercedes had them on some models. Can't imagine those today but tomorrow who knows. It is a constantly evolving thing. I believe the current generation Murano styling has become more mainstream. For example the "floating roofline" once considered avant garde in 2015 is seen lots of place today. What is pleasing to the eye of one person may not be so to the next. They are just opinions. It seems just everybody has one and so we are all entitled.
