The Infiniti G35 was one of the most beloved sports sedans of its time nearly 20 years ago. It's sad to see how far the mighty have fallen and while the latest Q50 has some likable traits, this is a far cry from the excellent Japanese BMW the original model was back in 2002. Let's hope Infiniti has a successor planned.

I drive a 2015 Q50S, with the naturally asperated 3.7L. The motor is bullet proof and the 7spd transmission is definitely the weakness of the powertrain, but I use the paddles when I'm looking for quick shifts. I'm very glad they haven't updated this car because my 8 year old car is almost identical to the new ones. They haven't updated anything in this at all. It is a fun car to drive, but save your money and buy a used one with low kms.

As for the exterior design, this car has stellar looks, a beautiful car. My issue is that it looks too similar to the Altima, particularly with the window controls, the instrument cluster and passenger side dashboard. For the price it commands, it shouldn't have so much similarity to the parent company lower end offering. I would look for a used version, unless I could find a solid deal on a new one.

I test drove the Acura and Genesis (2.2) at this price of 43k and their engines felt so much slower. The tech is older but you can put nav on the top screen and audio on the bottom which works well. The interior is still very comfortable compared to the others. The other brands didn't come with tilted steering. Also, the new 16 Bose system wasn't covered in this video which was the best sounding I tested at this price. I personally like the exterior styling. Lexus also is using an older model too for this price. I went with Infiniti. It's still a great car despite it's age.

Made in Japan and solid mature design from 8 years of continual improvement. Its a car that you shouldnt need to lease, rather if you want to keep it for a long time to run to the ground. Also if you dont care for all the current LED touch screens and want reliable traditional controls. For what it is today, its a great option for consumers. They (Nissan) aren't making money. They aren't investing in Infiniti, which is sad. They've lost their way and there's no marketing towards their cars. Genesis doesn't market as much and they seem to do better. They're doin worse than Acura which is all awd premium cars. Acura at least has made some improvements to breathe some life into their car. They needa update this to compete more with the IS sedan, 3 series, up to 5 series (based on size and wheelbase), C class, G70, etc. They need to create a fan base again the way they did with the G35. Bring back a manual in the Q60 too. We'd love to see it. If they can't create a new platform, they should pull a Toyota and platform share with another manufacturer. They already collabed with Mercedes for the 2.0T motor, they can prolly collab with MB for a platform to save some money. I mean bring back a hybrid version into this, since all the craze is pushing hard with hybrids. Lexus has done good with hybrids. Lincoln has done ok. Mercedes has done ok with it.

I think that you can´t compare German engine engineering with the Japanese, 2 completely different philosophies, the Germans goes for more HP and very fast acceleration and the Japanese for more reliability and cost savings because more HP and torque needs more expensive parts for the engine, inside and outside.

Very true. I'm actually impressed that Dodge Chargers/300's/Challengers have been around for nearly two decades with minimal changes, fairly old/low tech, and inefficient drivetrains, yet still have strong retail sales. The Durango is on it's 3rd refresh since it's current iteration from 12 years ago and they sell like hotcakes still. Infiniti can barely give these away by comparison and I believe they're still heavily discounted when they do sell, but I think that's more from lack of advertising.

I mean I have a 2013 G37S coupe with the 6 speed manual. I've had it for 7 years and it has been PHENOMENAL. Flawed...yes for sure. But the manual really transforms the car... suspension is good, seats are amazing. Engine is old...but if you push it..it'll really move. I had a G35 before it. I hate that the newest version isn't really competitive. Some minor tech tweaks and the new 9 speed I feel would really make a difference. I avoid the German equivalent for reliability issues and cost of ownership...seen it all first hand. The dual screens and lack of a manual (I know..in these days it's an unrealistic complaint) are the main reasons I have snagged a Q60 RS400.

how funny what we both have had almost the same cars. I still have my original 2003 G35, and my daily 2012 G37xS. The Cayman S just doesn't compare - still no issues with a 9 year old German car.
