I think the radio/climate is totally fine. I have a 2018 Accord and I NEVER touch the tuner or the volume knob, the steering wheel controls are perfectly fine. Most people will probably change songs with their phone like I do. Also, being able to move the car from the outside is SO UNDERRATED! Countless times I've parked a little too far away for fear of scraping the front. Being about to finish parking from outside sounds so useful. Not to mention its a cool party trick, which is always nice to have when you're splurging on a brand new car.

The phone thing is illegal where I live, and most steering wheels have buttons for that anyway. @erikpechmann8792 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you regarding the radio/climate. My opinion is this. I typically set the climate control to automatic, set the temp I want and leave it, no need to really fiddle with it unless the manufacturer did a bad job of heating or cooling based off the temp you select. Once you set climate, pop over to the radio and leave it there. Manufacturers have been doing the auto climate thing for so long I'm surprised you even need that many controls, should be a set and forget component. This wouldn't bother me one bit. Also, Kia did a solid by having the heated/cooled seat controls removed from the infotainment system and placed as buttons. This is one of the best systems I've seen, definitely on the short list if purchasing an EV.

Honestly, I never understood his complaint about that. When I listen to my music, I can identify 1000+ songs within the first second. @man_on_wheelz2 жыл бұрын
@@kamX-rz4uy Well, if you’ve ever driven a car with automatic climate controls and paid attention to what it does, you’ll notice it does a few things to try and optimize your climate controlled experience, to a point you don’t really need to touch anything while it’s doing it’s thing. All cars are different but let me tell you what mine does on a cold day. When I first start the car, it blows nothing. The system is on, but the fans are off for now because it knows I just started the car, there is no heat yet. Once the engine temperature starts to rise it kicks the climate fan on high speed, high heat, through the defroster ports (possibly my feet too but I’m usually so bundled up I can’t feel for it) because it knows being this cold out, your windows must need to be warmed up as well, you’ll still feel the warm air blow on your face because the windshield is at your face anyway. What I do to warm up my hands in this time is put my hand over the side window defroster vent, works exactly the same as if I’d directed it to my face. Once the interior has warmed up a bit it directs more air flow to the floor and decreases fan speed. Hot air rises, warming the floor will assure the car warms up bottom to top. If you’ve been driving for quite some time and you’ve got your temp set to a certain comfortable temperature, the car may lean the hot-cold blend more towards cold to try and regulate that set temperature, but it will never stop the fan circulating air. It will balance back and forth between the two as long as you continue driving and it may never blow through the face vent the whole trip, but you’re warm, you’re comfortable, and you didn’t have to touch a thing. That’s how my car does it and a lot of others I’ve driven. This is why I don’t feel the need to mess with the climate controls beyond setting the desired temperature.
@kamX-rz4uy2 жыл бұрын
@@man_on_wheelz If it works for you that's great but I like more control because I like to have specific temperatures and air flow direction at times that's different than what the car likes to do. Some days I don't touch it at all, other days I do a lot of adjustments. Have used automatic controls for a lot of years now and they have gotten better over time but there are still many times that I do adjustments. I see others doing the same. Automatic controls are nice and decrease interaction but not enough to relegate the controls to second class.

In 18 min! relative to its battery size (c-rate) this is by far the fastest charging EV on the market which is usually a big consideration when buying a family (first car) EV!

I think the better range and better charging are related to each other. The bigger battery pack gives you bigger range but I think also allows it to charge faster. Kind of like the interior better on the EV6 but I definitely like the exterior styling on the ionic 5 a bit more. The cars are actually quite a bit different for me each other. I was watching Alex on auto and he mentioned that the wheel bases actually different on the ionic 5 . I would have assumed the cars were identical under the skin but apparently that is not the case, the ionic is a bit wider and has a little bit wider interior seating in the rear because of that. With electric cars like the Tesla and now many others we realize that these EV's are just as much if not more software and computer hardware than they are vehicles. The Kia EV6 is such a game changer that many vehicle manufacturers be they EV only or ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) companies that added EVs to their lineups are going to have to up their games and review their pricing models. Even the VW GTI, Golf R and the BMW M2 and M4 are threatened by this vehicle and it's performance. The reason for this is that this vehicle and it's Hyundai version which by the way has different software and a different battery pack, share the same platform and are entirely new, designed from the ground up as an EV and not an existing platform with EV parts replacing ICE and transmissions. Some vehicles have haptic touch with makes a sound and a tiny vibration when you touch the screen and I think more EV screens will be going in that direction in the future. Great review Doug. Always fun to watch and very informative with a different perspective. I disagree with your score of the Mustang Mach E GT. I find the ergonomics and especially the main screen and infotainment system is really lacking especially compared to the other vehicles on this list. Perhaps it may be time tor you to change your scoring system because EVs are becoming more about the software and infotainment system then just about driving dynamics. Also your list had vehicles on that list that cost over double what this vehicle costs so the cost/performance ratio seems to not be taken in to account. In my opinion the score of this vehicle should be higher than both Ford products and even the Tesla Y which is considerably more expensive.

As a gen Z I think that I'd like the simplicity of the dual function screens for climate and volume, I rarely change the temperature in cars tbh

The charging features are really quite good. Also dig the fact you can power tools or other items right off the car...

Finally you get to review this amazing car. Its been on sale here for quite a few months already :) I love this thing. It looks so good (not that happy with the rear, but what ever) And its so loaded with "tech" and "extras" standard, you have to buy extra for all the competition at a lower price. And the GT is stupid fast!

Styling aside, I don't know if directly comparing the EV6 with the Mach-E is an apples to apples kind of thing. Ford has clearly focused on performance with the Mach-E which is why its range suffers (just like the Taycan), while I think Kia has focused on appealing to a broader audience with an all around cross-over. That may change a bit when the GT is released.

Haven’t bought a new vehicle in more than 30 years always buy used…Mainly because I’m cheap however, nothing really got my attention… Then along came the Hyundai Palisade, so I bought one for my wife for 2021… Then I went ahead and bought myself a Hyundai Santa Cruz… I’m telling you these guys know how to make cars and the value is amazing IMHO🤙🏽 - The interiors are refined and luxurious I’d say “understated elegance” I love the clean lines and the high tech feel.

Auto makers really need to take Doug more seriously. He has driven everything, so when he gives constructive criticism, it comes from experience. Great video Doug!

I wanna agree but oftentimes I find that the points he’s giving don’t correlate with what he says about the cars themselves or what he says about other cars in comparison. I find it confusing at times.

Doug's takes are often quite off though. In many cases he does not represent the general majority, and sometimes what he says is just plain wrong (or misinformed). He has experience, sure, but he has limited experience actually being out in the field when it comes to researching desires of target customers, at least outside of his own core vehicle segments. Also he has no experience with the limitations of engineering and production costs, which often weigh more than the desires of even customers. Doug's experience would only ammount to a tiny piece of the puzzle that auto makers have to consider when making cars. And thats also why they at times are inconsistent, because its simplu such a hard job to accomplish. Too many factors at play, and they always change and context evolves constantly.

Great effort from Hyundai/Kia for this and the Ioniq 5. However I'd like to see what they could do if they weren't trying to eke out every last cent of profit by adding in so much tech that's not necessary and only serves to pad the bottom line. Electric cars are far from mainstream thus far, largely because of price. As such, there's way more shoppers that can't afford them than those that can. I'm looking forward to a fully electric Ford Maverick. I think they could do that for under $30k if they wanted to.

So much of this review fails to mention what makes the EV6 better than the competition. Here are a few examples, sunroof that actually opens. Much faster charging times. Android Auto/Car Play. Somewhat disappointed in this review, historically Doug has done so well with reviewing vehicles. Based on many of the comments here, he was off the mark by spending so much time talking about being inconvenienced by the climate control/audio controls being on the same panel. Perhaps when the GT is released he’ll have a different viewpoint. I also can assume that Kia is going to sell a lot of these and that will also change his tune.

To be fair he probably didn't charge it himself and didn't know about the charge speed. I do agree that an inordinate amount of time was spent fussing over the hvac/radio. There was also no mention that the EV6 has a wireless Qi phone charging pad as a standard feature behind the "shifter".

On Kia selling a bunch: I bought mine a few days ago. Went back the next day to drop off some stuff for the car I traded in, and the other three they had were sold. This is in South Carolina... That should tell you something lol

He was also totally wrong about the mach e being faster. The comparable car is the mach e premium with 346 hp and awd against the kia ev6 gt line 320 hp awd. The ev6 consistently turns 0-60 from 4.4 to 4.8 and the mache only sometimes gets below 5. The ev6 comes out of the hole much quicker due to being around 400-500 lbs less weight.

I'd love to see you include a score for Usability (or User Friendliness). I'm suggesting this because some manufacturers have hideously awful controls - think Lexus' last generation infotainment trackpad - while others have more intuitive and/or easier to use controls. For example, in this review you pointed out that climate/infotainment toggle that necessitates an additional click to change settings - I think this should be taken into account in your scoring.

Love the direction Kia is going with this EV! Looks amazing. I will note though that the blind spot camera isn't as unique as you said. Honda has this on some models and Tesla's have this since the December update. Looks like it's becoming a standard :)

Exactly. My 2013 Accord Touring had blind spot camera. Also, I don't like the Kia's since they are in the front gauge cluster and I think people are not going to turn their head and look, which I think they still should.
@IRLSuperb2 жыл бұрын
@@warrenb9343 you don’t need to turn your head it’s almost like you forgot your eyeball can rotate 180°. I’ve driven the Kia and found it to be very easy to use because it’s right in front of your face unlike the Tesla that you have to actually tilt your face to the right slightly to see what your Blindspot sees. It’s almost like when people say oh my god you’re such a hassle but a hassle is extremely small that it’s almost nonexistent?
