It sure does (look better). I live in a neighborhood filled with Teslas, McLaren, Hondas, Mercedes, etc and this new Prius drove through and we had to see what it was! It looks really futuristic! But at $30k+ for a Prius, I think people will go for a 2yr old Tesla. Maybe sales companies would use this (deductions on taxes) but not a lot of storage room. But it looks like something from another planet! Really sharp design.

Got my 4th Gen Prius the same year it came out brand new! I still have the stock break pads with 170k miles. All I had to do was oil changes and air filters. And of course the tires. It's just too good of a car to own. I moved my apartment 3 times with this car. A twin mattress fits in it. We traveled along US west coast in it. It's got plenty of space to sleep, and the hybrid system is just ideal for having AC on during nights in Summer at Rest Areas. And no, I do not drive slow on the left lane haha.

@@markbajek2541 Sorry, mine is not a prime, it's the regular Prius Two model from 2016. I bought it for 24k as the cheapest base model at the time. So, no plugins or anything like that. Having no plugins makes it possible to run ac as long as you have gas. Your engine will turn on here and there to charge back up, but overall, you don't waste much gas on overnight AC runnning :)

its also a better price for what you get and a great transition point for people hesitant to go full electric. But the EV market is changing so fast this could change in less than 2 years from now. Just a month or two ago Tesla announced support for any plug-in vehicles at select stations (currently not many, but growing quickly). Electric car charging is faster and more reliable than ever, however its still very dependent on location.

I just wish they hadn't compromised the backseat functionality. I happen to have taller friends and I myself am six-foot-one and I hate that there are so few options on the American Market without going to a darn SUV or CUV and have full-size adult sitting up in the backseat. I ended up getting a GTI because it was on Deep Discount being a year old still on a little dealership lot. Not exactly sure why it didn't sell because all the rest of the cars all over the east side of the US where I was shopping we're selling out from underneath me while I was trying to make the deal (Golfs aren't very popular in the northern midwest) but I snagged a fully loaded model for nearly eight grand off MSRP because they didn't want to pay taxes on the unsold stock at the end of the year 😁 wish I could have afforded going plug-in hybrid but again, the dealerships in my area don't handle them I would have had to drive at minimum 65 Mi to get to a dealership that could do repairs on a Kia or Toyota plug in hybrid and anything related to Battery Service on a General Motors vehicle I would have had to drive the opposite direction more than 50 miles. Hopefully the popularity of these help the infrastructure be more viable when I'm back in the market. Thanks for another great review

Solar Roof $600. About $640 after tax. 1,250 Km = 776.7 mi = 2.1 miles a day. Assuming $3.50/gallon for gas, 50 miles/gallon, charging 80% of the time (it won't do anything if you charge overnight UNTIL you actually drive it for the day) = 11.76 cents/day 5,442 days, or 14.9 years to hopefully recoup the cost of the panel.

I do see your point but solar isn't just about saving money imo. The end goal, just like the main goal of the prius, is to reduce emissions and have a smaller impact on the environment to reduce greenhouse gasses. Over time it equals to thousands of miles without using gas and that's also a significant reduction of power usage on the grid. With how much the prius retains its 5 year resale value, the solar investment for the roof is worth the extra money even knowing chances are you won't recoup it all back, just knowing that you are taking the next step further to help the environment. ❤✌️😁

As EV tech advances, so do hybrids a year later. Got mine last week and it's the perfect daily (for me). Taller wheels for the highway miles, independent front and rear, but too much suspension travel and roll for mountain driving. Besides the motors, areas of modification look very straightforward, if you're into that. Since it shares a platform with the CH-R and Corolla, there will be a LOT of aftermarket options soon. I can let my truck make the driveway look pretty for now.

Good to see that Toyota is providing the same evse (commonly called a charger) made by Panasonic that they used on the previous generation. That evse can run on either 120v or 240v power, if you have an adapter. On 240v, it will charge the vehicle in half the time over 120v. How do I know this? I have the same evse which came with my Honda Clarity.

Nice detailed review. Unfortunately, the heated seats are not available with the SE trim but a heated steering wheel is standard. The SofTex trimmed seats are also not available on the SE. All the vehicles I have seen tested are either XSE or XSE Premium although it is interesting to note that the SE is capable of 4 more combined MPG and 5 more miles of electric-only range. This is quite a significant difference for a car that boasts efficiency as its best attribute. I would think that the SE would be most popular. It is also interesting that the SE's 17 inch wheels result in that much greater efficiency.

I already know you can order the spare tire, jack, jack handle and log wrench form Toyota dealers. 3) Is the device on the inside of windshield next the rear view mirror a dash cam? Also, please confirm Prime is not qualified for federal tax credit since it is not assembled in north America. Thanks in Advance

My Japanese best friend is always bragging about the Prius Aqua aka Prius-C at one time the top selling Prius in Japan. blah blah blah . Best selling in Japan , Top 3 cars made in Japan , Toyota's greatest gift to the Japanese . The first car you can choose from on the Video Game ,Gran Turismo 7. In the US has a NHST 5 star safety rating . Consumer Reports in 2012 awarded the Prius-C the most reliable car in the US. He brags about having equivalent of 200K miles on the car and how it calculates 100K+yen (Thousands of US dollars) saved in gas. He brags about how his Ncmh batterey is still at 80 percent fresh . He brags about how the brakes still haven't been changed ! (electric motor braking) He brags about his comparative millage of 55+ mpg out of city or in city driving (using pulse driving technique and regenerative braking) . He brags about his range of 650+KM (400+ miles ) on $35 US dollars of gas . The low maintenance cost of just oil changes and tires . How cool it runs in the summer. How the Aqua can seat 4 and has room in the back for groceries. He also finds it sad that Toyota can make a car like the Aqua focused for the Japanese smart consumer segment but sadly is forced to make cars that are for the idiot consumer segment , especially the US (Japan is economically export dependent) . Too many to list but when you start to see idiots in the US in Toyota Tundras (one idiot ) driving a round with fancy rims and nothing in the back or so many Hybrid versions of big heavy over roomy cars with more HP but pathetic MPG numbers. It makes you realize how pathetic car and gas addiction is globally. And you then realize the positive is Japan takes the profit from their global idiot car segments sales , and reinvest it into its own people. In the form of sustainable electric powered High speed trains and rail and public transporration. These trains that can put a Tesla ,Bugatti or Lamborghini to shame in terms of speed and travel. IMHO the new 2023 Prius Prime Plugin is now the Prius to get and has officially top the Prius-C.

This new Prius looks great. I would actually consider buying this car as my daily driver. However, pre-installing that hideous front license plate holder was an idiotic decision on Toyota's part. It absolutely ruins the front end of the car. Also, I believe Toyota is intentionally suppressing production volume in order to keep their average transaction price high. If supply chains were still that restricted, other brands would be in much worse shape than they are, but that isn't the case. I've been frustrated with Toyota for a while, their dealership experience is one of the worst in the industry.

First, a third of the states don't require a front tag. For those, the build-in tag holder just looks weird. Just what was Toyota thinking? Too bad Toyota didn't even bother to color the very cheap looking white "shipping" Styrofoam in the cargo area; and this trend towards no spare tire need to go away forever. Second, the driver instrument panel needs work. It should either be adjustable, or mounted to the steering wheel column. You should always be able to see all of the instrument panel regardless of driving position. Third, I am disappointed there's no power adjustments on the passenger side. That should be offered even as an option. When I do a cross-country and swap drivers, I like to be able to be able to fully relax. On the plus side, the rear windows go all the way down! Even better, the Prius gets double points for having not one, but two USB "inside" the center storage. With all the handheld devices around nowadays, one can never have too many USB ports. Not a lot of cars makers think of that -- including luxury brands. Finally, I wish it was offered with a "black package" and some sportier 5-spoke wheels. That might cause it to be less efficient, but it would be the icing on the cake. Maybe next year?

Also in time electric company will start price gouging as well.

Because it’s a Tesla. Toyota reliability, physical buttons, exterior & interior styling, an actual drivers front display are some of the reasons why I would pick a Prius over a Model 3. I’m not hating on Tesla, it’s just that for some people like myself, Tesla’s aren’t just that appealing.

With these PHEVs that actually have a usable EV range the ICE is barely used so that ten minute oil change in your driveway only needs to be done once a year really, and that's only if you get regular, put a good quality synthetic oil in it like Schaeffers or Red Line and you can stretch that to two or more years. If this is like the Volt it will idle the ICE about once a month for a few minutes to circulate the oil for seal health and remove built up moisture in the oil. The only downside is the fuel age, I only put a few liters in mine for daily driving so when the fuel ages out after a year or so it's less fuel to burn, but I typically go on a road trip before that happens so it's pretty much a non-issue.

This looks pretty much like a replacement of the Chevy Volt Gen 2 introduced in 2016 (I have one). Also the higher end version (of the Prime) is pretty much in Tesla 3 base model price territory however the philosophy of the 2 vehicles is totally opoosite. Toyota has lots of buttons and a complex mechanical design. Tesla is minimalistic and just a smoother EV design. I guess it is good to have more choices!

ok so there are 2 batteries in every electric car, 12v car battery and the high voltage battery for the motor. in a hybrid it has both, and the engine. if the high voltage dies it'll pull off the 12v battery to start the gas engine and leave it running until both are charged. if the 12v battery dies you have to charge it before the car could turn on (literally nothing turns on without the 12v, it runs all of the computers) then it'll run off the high voltage until the 12v is charged
