Great job on covering what is inside of the new DM Screen. I wasn't sure if I am going to purchase it or not. This will help me make a decision. Congrats on the sponsorship as well.

I might have to get this dm screen. Weather and cover is something I always forget. It’s the small rules that you don’t think about all the time until it comes up

I like the idea of having a place to put their encounter cards, maybe a rail along the top or a plastic holder like you have in yours would be nice. It'd also be useful for spell cards and other accessories that come in card form all over the place these days. That said, I don't really get to use a DM Screen because we play around a small round dining table, and there's just not enough room for it. The closest I can get is my laptop screen, which is fine because that's largely got my notes on it anyway and it runs the portable monitors I use to display digital maps. If I had space for a DM screen I'd buy the PDF version of it, print out the parts I want to use, and custom print out the other things I want that the generic screen doesn't have, then apply them to a custom GM screen, which would likely be 3 landscape later pages in size to be a bit shorter, and take up a bit less space.

1. HOW THE FLIP - did they not include a summary section on Weapon Mastery? Are we expecting that whole table to be on a Character Sheet? 2. 2/3rds of the last section on Travel? Hey, if you want to boost another pillar, just put that in the adventures 3. The folder is... unhelpful. They should have included a tear out sheet of the Conditions so you can make them into hand-out cards. 4. So many changes to Grappel and Unarmed strikes... That should be on there. 5. I appreciate the larger text... as an older man wearing glasses. Compared to Pathfinder's GM Screen it's much easier to read. 6. I have alligator clips and multiple pages up to improve NPCs.

Good review of the DM screen. I think this might be useful when I pick up the new books. I will probably be on the fence on this until the new MM is out. You have a great deal of knowledge about TTRPG’s. I think you must make a great DM or GM.Keep rocking and rolling and keep rolling 20🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

Weather is one of the things I constantly forget about as a DM unless the adventure I'm running calls for it or the players ask. Having s weather table right in front of me will help me remember weather exists.

That small rant about Fahrenheit is very telling. As a Celsius user, it makes no sense

I use Celsius and Metric for everything despite being here in the US; it makes infinitely more sense.

I definitely think most metric units are better, especially meters over feet and inches (inches are particularly weird because feet are broken into 12 inches but fractions of inches typically are given in binary rather than base 12). However, I don't really see a big advantage to using Celsius over Fahrenheit. Temperature is usually only given in one unit, ie degrees, so the usual advantage metric has of consistently using base 10 doesn't really apply. Sure, Celsius has the freezing point of water conveniently set at 0 degrees, but body temperature is close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so it can be somewhat intuitive to think of temperatures in relation to that (so less than 60 degrees is cold just like a below 60 test score is failing). I guess it might make sense to switch to Celsius to be more in line with the rest of the world, but other than that it has little benefit.

You are 100% on skills mixing with different abilities! This should be more emphasized, because I think it opens more doors for creativity. I always have a DM screen, but I rarely actually reference what it says on the inside. I think it's mostly because I'm always standing and don't want to crouch down to read it. Looks like it'll have useful information though.
@darcyw156Ай бұрын
I think the info on the screen is def good for new DM's. Since I have gone screenless, I don't need that info, but I sometimes miss having the conditions at hand. It's all info that can be printed off and put onto a homemade screen instead of giving Wizards your hard earned $, but that said, it is something I would have picked up when I was first starting dm'ing. Thanks Diana, for the vid. I was wondering how this screen differed from the 2014 screen.

My habit for typing the name for the "new" edition is 5.24, but when I say it , it is just "five twenty-four". YMMV & that is fine. I do know of 2 YT channels that are using 5.24 also, though one when he speaks it says five point twenty-four. So, variance abounds.

Being able to use strength for intimidation checks is a level 3 barbarian class feature (only applies while raging and includes other skills). To just let anyone use their strength to make intimidation checks just because their str is better than their cha definitely takes away from barbarians specifically Theres no reason the DM cant just house rule it or allow it given context or whatever specific situation youre in, but its not a core rule. It should not be the default for everyone. Letting players do things their features or core rules dont say they can do potentially takes specialness away from abilities and featues of other characters at the table and thats gonna feel awful Its like if your fighter says "i hit him from behind so that should count as a sneak attack, right?" And then the DM allows them to roll 3d6 damage, the rogue at the table is going to be like "yo what the hell am i even playing rogue for??"
@bradleyhurley6755Ай бұрын
I'm just going to copy and paste this from the 2024 PHB "Each skill proficiency is associated with an ability check. For example, the Intimidation skill is associated with Charisma. In some situations, the DM might allow you to apply your skill proficiency to a different ability check. For example, if a character tries to intimidate someone through a show of physical strength, the DM might ask for a Strength (Intimidation) check rather than a Charisma (Intimidation) check. That character would make a Strength check and add their Proficiency Bonus if they have Intimidation proficiency."
@MaeveKАй бұрын
@@bradleyhurley6755yeah yeah quoting the rulebooks without context of how applicable these rules are for a situation is all well and good, but genericus mcfighterman the 3rd isnt going to intimidate the spy that already made peace with it being over for him by flexing on him while packing a personality as forceful as a wet sock and a voicecrack. that might get genericus mcfighterman the 3rd somewhere in a stareoff with the gladiator he's about to face in the arena, but doesn't apply to every situation. the barbarian might be able to get something out of the spy by using his rage to don a mask of unrelenting cruelty. that said, without quoting any book the dm decides if and what dice are rolled and players should expect class features to be useful way more than the dm bending the rules for them because they like the numbers better.
@bradleyhurley6755Ай бұрын
@@MaeveK My point in quoting it is that dontuserachelslurs mentioned it wasn't a core rule. But it appears in the PHB. It might not be applicable in every situation, it is still a rule within the game and is not bending the rules.

agreed that the measurements should be in both imperial and metric, there are lots of people playing D&D outside america! Fully appreciate Intimidate using a variety of skills, Vizzini would have used intelligence and found it inconceivable that it only relies on brute strength!

So I’m probably gonna get harassed for this, but I was 15 seconds into your video and you already dropped a casual F bomb. I use the word too occasionally, but I don’t say “past the effing potatoes!” And that’s how I think some creators are treating this. I didn’t finish watching your video. I’m not trying to be hurtful. I’m just saying it’s offensive, I think we could do better. Peace and happy gaming.
