That's PROBABLY not coming until another generation / breakthrough of battery technology hits the market. There's just no sense in it. The only way you'd see them accomplish that NOW is to have a giant truck footprint like this, but with a much smaller battery. It'd help the price, but it'd further hurt your range and be an all around gimmick product which Ford can't really afford to make right now. . .

I have the Lariat with standard range, plus the Ford Charge Station Pro (80A) fast charge and the Home Integration System bi-directional inverter system that powers my entire home, including HVAC, whenever "the grid" goes down. I like to think that my home solar system charges my truck for everyday driving, and if/when needed, the truck powers my home. I really like driving my Lightning! I will say that, if you're in a hurry on a long road trip, take your alternate ICE vehicle because EV travel requires advance planning (for charging stops) and the extra time (like dining or shopping) while your truck is charging up for the next segment of your trip to the next charging station.

Range when towing 2 jet skis about 100 miles.....mine V8 about 375. Then I fill up in about 10 min. I also paid 38K for a brand new 2020 XLT crew cab. With regular maintenance it will go 300k if not more.

I also don't know your driving habits, or the cost of fuel in your area, but assuming an F150 has a 3.5 V6, 4WD, averages 18 MPG (EPA rating) and fuel costs an average of $4.00 per gallon, a truck in this configuration will cost about $66,666 in fuel to go 300,000 miles. Assuming an average cost of $0.16 per kWh for residential electricity and an average consumption rate of 2.1 miles per kWh (+15% transmission losses), an F150 Lightning can cost as low as $26,286 to go that same 300,000 miles assuming all charging is done at home. However, even if _all_ your electricity came from public chargers (which roughly cost about double that of residential rates), your total electricity cost, at worst, would be $52,571, but this is highly unlikely.

@@directorjustin gas price in TX is around 3.25. I get 20 mpg combined with V8. I paid 38k for the new crew cab XLT. Now they are 48k after discounts. The cheapest electric is 52k,- xl truck, work version. XLT is 57k. Battery life is expected to be around 150k with significant degradation. At that point the new battery according to Ford is around 22k. My V8 won't need any major work besides regular maintenance during its lifetime. ( Should go easily 300k). So I am saving 19k on the price vs new F150 EV, 22k on the battery replacement plus i can actually tow 350 miles comfortably without worry. Then I fill up in 10 min and go another 350 miles.

I live in an area with dirt cheap electricity, we have a boat but we only tow it to lakes within about 20-30 miles of us, and I generally need a daily driver for my business that provides some utility. But I don’t need something for long road trips as we would just take my wife’s car. This might work for me.

Men with small hands totally bought into this idea, so they can look more masculine (they don’t). But EV pickup goes against this mentality, you cannot look masculine driving an electric truck. It is a huge misunderstanding of the target audience by Ford marketing team. If they wanted to sell large overpriced vehicles to justify its price, they should’ve made EV Expedition for rich suburban moms. Moms have fewer issues with looking masculine, but love extra capacity for storing more kids inside.

IMO, The dealers screwed the company. They had leveled $10-20k AMDs. Enough buyers found that out the hard way. Those stories errode trust. I was one of possibly 100,000 reservations canceled. Its a nuce unit, but not the BEST unit for $100k. No market there. Rivian thanks Ford!

Worth mentioning, Ford is transitioning to a heat pump with the Lightning, should help significantly until the new truck platform arrives.

I have a 22 platinum and ford ripped out the seats in thay truck as well for a $300 credit which is insane. The software in my truck is complete garbage and effectively unless you use android auto or car play its feature less. Ford put in a huge touchscreen and never updated it to be useful over the years. Also the platinum seats have an issue bleeding coloring from the accent line . So as it stands my truck is getting all the seat covers replaced after a year of back and forth with ford corporate and my dealer. All and all this truck should have been a smash hit but crap software, janky build quality i personally think delt this a bad hand. When i talk to people about my truck its always negative which is sad but what it is when Ford delivers such an over hyped and underwhelming experience.

I would argue that the ice version is also soulless. What do you determine as having soul? I would say anything that provides spirited driving, like a sports car (which could also be an EV). No pickup, short of perhaps a Raptor R, would give spirited driving. You can do anything in this as you can with the ice F150. Engine noise does not equate to having soul.

Nice truck to go to Home Depot to buy some 2x4’s. Absolutely useless to tow Rv trailer any long distance. Two reasons first u have unhook trailer to charge, u would be blocking traffic due to length of truck and trailer. Second adds about 2 to 3 hours to trip. Sorry EV trucks don’t cut it in RV travel world.

I know it says 131kw for 300 miles but whats the actual mile per Kw when you drove it? Also what model/s can send electric back to the house for "10 days" worth power. DISCLAIMER: I'm posting this comment on this review only because it's the most recent that I've found on youtube. I have not watched the video, but my comment is appropriate for anyone looking to buy an EV. I've watched several of the lightning reviews and I notice that some of the reviewers were actually getting better than advertised range. I only today realized what is going on in the range arena. This truck has a traditionally designed body. Thus it has terrific drag. I don't know whether you noticed it or not but drag is much more disadvantageous for EVs than for an ICE vehicle. Maybe someone out there could tell us why. BUT for this particular vehicle, you are going to get terrible range at highway speeds and above. The lack of a bed cover; the non-aerodynamic body, and several other things causes terrible range degradition as speed is increased. Also, for trailering. Pull an aerodynamic trailer rig and you'll help youreself there. Look what the 18 wheeler owners have added to the cab to fight drag. Just saying. Thanks for listening (or ignoring this post)

I think there needs to be some corrections to this review, and many others as well. For one thing, can we stop harping on the effect towing has on range as if gas powered vehicles magically get more range when towing? If you tow you cut your range, it does not matter if it's an EV or much more expensive to own gas or diesel powered truck. Of course Ford could do some improving of the capacity and chemistry of the battery pack, and the aerodynamics, to improve range but let's stop pretending as if gas vehicles don't have to obey the laws of physics too. Though, to be fair, Soyfan isn't the only one making this mistake, there are too many reviewers and reporters treating EVs and towing the same way.

Many discounts this summer since all manufacturers are bringing out new or newly refreshed models coming out this fall. If you don’t mind having first gen EV, good time to do your toes into the EV waters I’m thinking. But you may regret not getting the newest models since improvements are occurring in leaps and bounds it seems from all manufacturers. The first wave of Beta testers served their purpose. Up to the consumer to do or not.

May I suggest leaving the lights off while shooting the exterior shots… we know it’s the camera that causes the headlamps to appear strobing. It is distracting to the point of unwatchable

We have three of them in our family. My Brother has a Platinum, I have a platinum and my wife drives a well equipped XLT. They are very popular in Nevada. Can't speak for other places. We have the NACS Adapters and we charge at Tesla Chargers. I tow with mine all the time locally. It's awesome for that. I also use it to tow my trailered Side by side but I do add power every 60 to 80 miles to keep it bumped up. I go to moon rocks in Northern Nevada. It's 180 miles. I add juice 3 time going and 3 times on the way back. not an issue. I keep it at 65 miles an hour on the freeway. Without a trailer I drive 75 to 80 MPH and stop as necessary. I 80 has great charging from Salt Lake to Reno and beyond. I have driven my Lightening to Salt Lake, Las Vegas to Reno, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. no issues. Having the ability to charge at CCS and Tesla Superchargers is awesome.
