Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had a great weekend! For a country that supposedly despises station wagons, Subaru managed to sell a little over 160,000 units in the US in 2023, making this car the best-selling Subaru model, outselling even the Crosstrek and Forester. Who else would like to see other brands more lifted station wagons like this car?

unfortunately i have heard the next version of the outback will follow the foresters path which looks like a ford explorer now, bigger and less fuel efficient, unless they tweaked something to improve efficiency. im not sure how fuel efficient even the hybrid versions will be. the previous eboxer crosstrek and forester sucked in fuel economy

I just got mine a week ago, I have nothing but praise for the Outback Wilderness it is the best and most refined Subaru I have even been in. I know the touring has a fancier inside, but the Wilderness is nice enough and the extra height and lower engine torque make for a better ride for me. She is quick and planted! Can't wait to take it off road but she is too new!

I've always been a Toyota guy. During the new vehicle shortage (21/22) I was in need of a new car. Looked at Toyota and could only get quotes well above MSRP, and also wait times. Called a local Subaru dealer & they told me they don't do mark ups at all. I shopped around and found that to be the case with every single Subaru dealer in my area. Needless to say, I went with a Subaru. The car has been awesome and I now see why they're very popular in my area.

Yep me also. Same situation, Toyota would not work with a customer at all on price. Subaru actually came down just a little on price and I think I had to wait 3 months for my outback

What Subarus shine is when it snows. I drove my Forster through a mountain snowstorm on the highway. Everyone in front of me is hydro planning including other part time AWD cars. I was driving at 50 mph without anything special turned on easily. When making turns at local roads, with snow, I saw all other cars drift, I turn on X-mode and nothing bad happens, the car grips the road.

Love the Outback Touring XT. As fast as a WRX but much more practical. Hopefully the New York Auto Show will debut the 2025 redesigned Outback with the standard NA motor, the turbo XT model and a hybrid option too, just like the 2026 Forester will have! 😍 Now we just need the return of the Forester XT! 🙏🙏🙏

When originally introduced, the Outback was simply a raised Legacy wagon. Sales did so well in America that Subaru eventually discontinued the Legacy wagon. The wagon was always more attractive, but money talks. The fully framed out windows on the doors helped reduce NVH. The turbo is mandatory, to my way of thinking. Subaru has as much, or more, experience in the turbocharging of engines than any manufacturer. For years, it was a very successful participant in the World Rally Challenge. It spent alot of money putting together a partnership with ProDrive which always employed the best drivers, mechanics and engineers. Colin McRae and Richard Burns, sadly both are deceased unrelated to driving, were wildly loved for winning World Championships in Subaru Impreza Turbos. They did more to popularize Subarus in Europe than any ad campaign ever could.

I bought a 2024 Outback Limited 2.5 in August. Subaru offered a $2,000 discount, out the door price of $37,500. The is my sixth Subaru after switching to a couple of CX 5’s. I must say nicest interior, best ride and quietest Subaru I’ve owned! Mine came with winter mats cargo and back of seat backs protection. Also, wireless charger. Downsides include slow acceleration, loud engine noise with CVT and disappointing MPG. Only get 21.5 in town but 29-30 on highway. Window sticker said EPA city 27, I’ve yet to achieve that! Tom Tom navigation is not very good, switched to Apple Car Play solved that. Overall , very satisfied, but maybe turbo was better option since mpg is what’s claimed!

Really enjoying my Magnetite Grey 2022 Touring model in north Scotland (my 2nd Outback), in a recent Subaru UK survey I completed, only 2 things I said they need to make the Outback near perfect, XT turbo engine (we only get the 2.5L limited to 169PS in UK) and all weather tyres as standard, instead of summer Bridgestone's.

Can someone explain how this much heavier, bigger Outback with way more ground clearance gets a much better fuel economy and runs on regular while having almost the same 0-60 vs the WRX? Wtf have they been doing with WRX?
@bruddahmanmatt
@bruddahmanmatt 11 ай бұрын
The WRX's 6MT has very short gearing and requires a 2-3 shift before 60 mph. The gap widens in the quarter mile where the WRX is about a half second quicker than the Outback XT. That same short gearing is why the WRX also has garbage fuel economy as you're turning a lot of revs on the highway. It's also why the Outback WN has awful fuel economy as the WN uses a shorter final drive than other Outback XT models. FWIW the Outback/Legacy XT and Ascent run higher max boost pressure than the WRX, their motors make almost 20 more lb-ft of torque than the WRX, but the WRX makes up the difference with more advance by running on 91. The XTs and the Ascents prioritize low end torque to get moving because owners will be hauling people and stuff. This focus on low end performance helps in a drag race which has never been the WRX's focus. The WRX is a canyon carver and it's all about maintaining momentum in the turns and that 3-4 shift on the open road.

I was thinking about the turn signals, and i wonder if the fading effect of the non-led lights might actually make the turn signals a bit more noticeable that the simple on/off of the LED lights. And to your comment on having a digital display, wouldn't that be one more expensive thing to fix once it breaks? The analog gauges just work.

This is my next vehicle whenever my 2015 Honda Pilot EX-L dies. By the way the Pilot runs and drives, it may be the last vehicle I'll own as old age is at my door. I've owned a 2009 Forester XT that was great and never left me stranded here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Pilots are decent in winter but I've heard an Outback with snow tires you can climb trees if need be.

The rear seats of outback xt do recline: control is on outside edge near the seat cushion. As for 20" wheels, no thanks...our roads have many potholes and huge wheels/rubber band tires guarantee flats and bent wheels then.

As an Outback owner since 1998, I have found that regarding big cargo areas, the Outback is superior to most SUV's unless they are considerably larger outside. The Length of the cargo area is the clincher, as it comes in useful quite often, and I have never had an issue with height inside. Current offerings often are quite short behind the rear seats, and require loading up to that ceiling, to carry what an Outback can, without exceeding the rear seat height. The length makes sleeping inside just fine for my 5'10" body as well. And offroad? Far better than most people realize.

I test drove a Touring XT. My experience was that the ride quality was just okay and the cabin wasn't all that quiet. The lag when accelerating wasn't something I want to deal with on my commute into the big city. They should've kept the engine sound out of the cabin, because it's an ugly, depressing noise. I didn't find the driver's seat to be all that comfortable. I also drove the Forester Wilderness and liked the seat more in that. With all that said, considering all the powertrain problems most manufacturers are having, I haven't marked the Outback off my list. I could probably get used to it.

Sofyan, I agree with you on the current OB styling vs. the "pre-refresh" Gen 6. I'm fine with the styling of our '22 Outback Limited XT. One thing that Subaru changed in the 'Touring' product lineup is offer the Napa leather seats in black as well as brown. My wife & I would have ordered our '22 Outback as a Touring model, but that brown interior with the blue exterior paint looked like a train wreck.

I like the older style interior accept for that middle screen I’d rather have a smaller screen with actually buttons like on the older grand cherokees.

I've owned both an XT and a non-XT Outback. The naturally aspirated motor definitely feels quicker off the line.

Subaru really needs to stop with the body cladding, it’s hideous & we all know what happens to it from the sun especially here in CO. Also please for the love of all that is holy get rid of the CVT.

As an auto glass technician, Subarus eyesight is the ultimate pain in the ass to calibrate with a replacement windshield. Worse than the Germans. I have no issue owning a Subaru, just don’t ask me to replace a windshield on the cheap with a three camera eyesight system.

Technically there is a heads up. It is just warning lights but they work good. Also I noticed this model doesn't have the auto hold brake. (I have this car and it has it). The wireless charger sucks so don't get it. Mine came with it and I want it out.

We have a 22 Legacy Limited XT and love it in most ways. Just test drove a 23 Outback Touring XT as a 2nd car and the brakes were terrible. Spongy and sank inches at a stop. The dealer said "they're fine." um, nope. Anyone else experience this?

I can't edit my comment so let me just clarify that the 2023 we test drove only had 7,000 miles and is certified used. Also, I have read that they're using a different brake booster as of 2023 and I've seen comments in Outback groups complaining about the same problem.

@@66cotter Thx, we're going to try another Outback soon. We liked it very much (which makes sense since we like our Legacy), but now looking for a Limited. The front visibility in the Touring is compromised by the contraption above the rear-view mirror -- there's no daylight above the mirror, as there is in the Limited, and part of it sticks out to the left of the mirror. Odd. Anyway, will you be buying the one you drove? If so, congrats!

@@nyrocks5580 I'm waiting for pricing, payments etc on a '24 limited in the gorgeous Mahogany Pearl, and a low mileage' 23 Premier in the green. I don't like the color as much, but about 7k less. I'll see what the numbers tell me. I like the Premiers camera for the mirror, because I might be loading it up and be difficult to see in a regular rear view mirror. The leather in the limited seems cheap, especially on the steering wheel, which I'm not fond of.

Too much ugly plastic cladding everywhere. Too long and outdated looking. Really wish Subaru would make a more elegant "city version" of this. Similar to what Volvo does with their wagons. I'd buy that or lift back version of legacy in a heartbeat.

Yeah those black plastic trims on the front are a huge ZONK (as Joe raiti would say). It's supposed to be an off roady look but it looks like a Fisher price toy car with it. Everything else seems alright though.

I have always loved the Outback but with this 11.3 screen position and the backup screen size. It's NOT for me any longer. I'm thinking selling mine 2022 Outback and buy a used 2023 Forester with the 8 inches screen, with the easy usage of controls and good big backup screen! Yes, the resolution on 11.3 screen is horrible!
