The #Polestar brand has only been around for a few years but the company is quickly expanding with the addition of the #Polestar3 and #Polestar4. The 4 is the brand’s latest model and it slots between the #Polestar2 and 3 and will be priced at a reasonable $54k when it goes on sale late this year.

Last month I drove 850 miles over 14+ hours to surprise my mom for her birthday. I stopped 3 times for about 15 minutes each. I’ve done this drive 43 times, each leg is about 400 miles. If I tried it in an electric car it would take me far longer because of charging times and the fact a 30-minute stop only nets you 75-80% charge. That’s four stops minimum adding nearly 2 hours. Add to that the fact the NY Thruway has few charge stations and the southerly route through Pennsylvania has only two or three, it means an electric car is not yet feasible for me. Once they double or triple their range and the infrastructure to support them is there, I’ll consider it. Until then it’s no deal.

This is a proven technology. Lots of cars have done this already and it’s a bit of a misnomer that your visibility is worse. Many cars have poor rear visibility so if you have a high definition camera with a wide viewing angle it actually improves things.

From KBB... Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Volvo Car’s parent company, makes Polestar vehicles. Volvo and Geely Holding announced plans for Volvo to transfer Polestar ownership in 2024, likely to Geely Sweden Holding subsidiary. Wall Street analysts have criticized Volvo for its ownership stake in Polestar, saying that it’s a drag on Volvo earnings. Geely says the company fully supports Polestar as an independent brand, giving the Chinese automaker a foothold in the United States.
@benjaminsmith2287

That's a business thing. Volvo still is heavily involved in Polestar cars development and will service their cars. Volvo will build the Polestar 3 in their Volvo factory in the USA and likely will build future Polestars in the Volvo Slovakian factory under construction now. Polestar is still very much a part of Volvo, just financially it is better for Polestar to be financed by the parent company. And this stuff about Geely is overblown. Volvo is the more established company and Geely has owned them for more than 10 years. Most people don't know of or care about Geely that purchase Volvos. And Polestar will not be a high-volume brand. Geely also owns Lotus, also not a high volume brand.

I'm no pro but one thing that's nice is when you don't have a rear window you can pack things in the back all the way up to the roof vs in normal cars you always have to worry about leaving enough space to see out the rear. I imagine that the FOV for a camera system is also much greater than trying to look through a mirror.
@RoughNeckDelta
@RoughNeckDelta Ай бұрын
@@ryand0000 Oh, I get that a rearview camera system is better, but you can implement that even with a rear window, Cadillac already does this in some of their models. It's so much more useful than a mirror I wish this would come standard, but at least you can do it aftermarket.

The Polestar 4 is based on the Zeekr001 and that's why it is different from the Polestar 3 and 2 which are based on Volvos. The Polestar 5 and 6 are also based on Volvos. Not sure what direction Polestar will go in with cars after the 6. The naming convention has to do with when the car is introduced and only that. So, since it is based on the Zeekr the screen is landscape, the seats are from a Zeekr and not a Volvo, the door switches are from Zeekr and so forth. Zeekr is designed in Sweden but Polestar reskinned the car to use Polestar design language and materials. The car is a raised sedan but Polestar is not the first to call a raised sedan a "coupe SUV."

But even the Lotus Eletre and Emeya are built on the Zeekr's framework but with their own tuning and mods. It'll come down to $. They may have to use an existing platform/framework opposed to spending on their own as both are fairly low volume brands.

It has a higher ground clearance than the Mustang Mach-E and only .3 inches less than the Tesla Y - which you had no qualms claiming are SUVs. What gives? It has similar styling to both these vehicles, however has more in common with the Jaguar I-pace. I think you need to reevaluate your perspective on the design of this vehicle before making claims that simply have no bearing to the reality of what this vehicle is and isn’t.

It's neither a sedan or an SUV. It does feel like a raised sedan in a way but sitting in a Toyota Crown, a raised sedan or the VW ID7, all of them a the auto show in NYC, the 4 has a different feel than the sedans. But it also has a different feel to the SUVs.

Volvo will no longer be funding Polestar and is planning to reduce its shareholding in the company.
@benjaminsmith2287
@benjaminsmith2287 2 ай бұрын
Volvo and Polestar will develop cars together. Volvo will build the Polestar 3 in its USA plant. Volvo will service Polestar cars in select dealership. Volvo and Polestar are closely related companies that share personnel and materials and components and to a large degree. It's not just that they are in the Geely Group. They share a headquarters in Sweden and Polestar is an offshoot of Volvo. Volvo isn't funding Polestar to the degree they used to because Geely has deeper pockets. It's a business arrangement. Both are funded by their parent company, Geely Holding.

Polestar tends to forget that a rearview mirror is also good to view what occupants at the back are doing, which crosses out one big demographic families with young kids. The structural savings are not worth it.

What makes it overpriced? For the level of tech you get, air suspension, Brembo brakes, and the interior appointments and quality, what makes it overpriced? The Polestar 3's price is fair for its quality.

I sat in this car today at the auto show. You are absolutely wrong in thinking this car looks anything like a Tesla inside. It has way different style and materials and structure. It does not feel cheap inside at all. It feels like a premium car.

@@benjaminsmith2287I'm sure it feels nicer inside but there's no way to make two slapped on screens look premium or innovative.

@@motormusique Just about all cars have screens now. The innovations inside aren't about the screens, it's more about the materials and mood/feel in the car. The screens, especially in the 3, aren't all that much in the foreground. In the 4 they are a bit more, but still, the angles and materials and other aspects of the interior are far more interesting to me than the screens, which are just now expected.

priced like a new mercedes E class? no way any rational person would go for this (unless the lease deals are outrageous like hyundai's)

This is an electric car and should be compared to the price of other electric cars. How much is a Mercedes EQC or EQCSUV? It's about $8K more to start with. The pricing of the Polestar 4 is correct for the market and appointments and level of handling sophistication it has.

@benjaminsmith2287 I disagree. at least here in America where we can still choose what to drive, cara prices are compared to OTHER car prices. BUT even following your logic, Tesla Y is much cheaper here in America and likely as good. if they were the same price I would take the Polestar, otherwise I would stick to Tesla

@@dolarizacionenaccion790 Tesla doesn't have the same level of appointments and sophistication as Polestar. Anyway, if you think the Polestar is overpriced, then it isn't for you. The price is competitive if you are familiar with the Polestar product.

Volvo has its own electric models which overlap with Polestar. Doesn't make sense. Polestar itself has too many models and they all look the same.

Too many models? 3 are too many? And they don't really overlap with Volvo. The Polestar 3 is only a 5 seater, not a 7 seater, for instance and it is lower and sleeker than the boxier Volvo EX90. And the Polestars are way sportier than their Volvo siblings. And they hardly look the same. The 3, 4 and 2 have distinctive styling inside and out.
