I agree, 4Runner has two look like mustache in the front, if you know what I meant. Looks so freaking ugly as hell. And the rear side window it’s so high all the way to the roof.

@@IowaHiker 100% - If I get this I would raise it by 1.5"-3". I'm hoping Honda has an option to raise it from the factory, although I doubt they will.

I'm so glad their retaining that powerful V-6 and not downgrading to a 4-cylinder or complicated hybrid setup. It looks so good!

@@rustynail7866 Yes, that one which still is just suspected of a defect. Still is a bulletproof engine. Not like the new Toyota engines that are actually falling left to right, with actual serious issues.

I drive a 2014 4-Runner now and I am considering buying the Passport. The is vehicle fits niche of for people like me who don't go offroad very much but needs 4 wheel drive for recreational activities like camping, kayaking, etc. The extra roominess in this vehicle should be enough for all my fishing gear. Sounds like the price point is going to be better than the new 4-Runner. After being loyal Toyota fan for over 20 years, I think I am jumping ship to vehicle that better meets my lifestyle.

While it might not attract the most hardcore offroad enthusiasts, I think this will be a win for Honda. The reviews will flesh out if it's traction control systems are up to the task of mild off-roading, but it looks like a good value and should take away some sales from their competitors.

I think there is a good market for a very capable off-road SUV that performs really well on the highway. I need a vehicle to explore the backcountry, tow a teardrop trailer, take me to the trailhead to bike/hike and allow me to get across washed out forestry roads on occasion. I think this is possibly the best option - let's see how it drives.

Looking forward to the reviews when the embargo lifts. One thing that bothers me that alot of manufacturers do. Why when something is 'offroad' oriented, do they insist on silver front and rear cladding? I know it's meant to look like the vehicle has front and rear bumper skid plates, but they're not fooling anyone.

Best model redesign from Honda in a long time, IMHO. So glad they redesigned the dash, because the current Gen was so boring! This will satisfy most people’s needs for light off roading. I’m sure there will be aftermarket upgrades to make it more capable for more rougher environments. Definitely on my hit list!

It's the perfect SUV, powerful and not too big. I don't need a third row of seats. Personally, I'm a city guy, never go off-roading, and I like chrome trim (this one doesn't have it). The car is nice because there are no options on the market for a 250+ HP V6 with 5 seats and 190 inches long, except the Passport.

@@johnrose7212 I just test drove the Land Cruiser 1958 model. My back hurt after a 15 min test drive. What's up with those terrible seats? Manual too - not sure what Toyota is trying to do there. Also, it's a tight cockpit for tall people - my knees were hitting the steering wheel. Strike that one off the list.

Looks great! Will work awesome on WNC forest service roads to get to trailheads and camp spots. Lots of Subarus doing that around here. Hybrid would be awesome. 2” lift ought to look amazing and beat Subaru for clearance. Although only the worst back roads would ever require more.

Close but no cigar. While a huge improvement over the outgoing model, it lacks two important features serious off-roaders demand: a 2-speed transfer case and a “standard” full-size spare tire. Yes, it does offer an optional dealer-installed full-size spare, but it takes up way too much room in the cargo area. Plus it’s likely to be a costly option. Ditch the standard temporary spare, reconfigure the spare tire tub to fit that full-size matching spare which is now optional. One more thing… more ground clearance please! Until these issues are fixed, it will be a new 4Runner or Land Cruiser for me.

I don't see myself taking this off roading, but would take this for family road trips from Chicago to Colorado. With that said I wish it had a hybrid option since I feel we will start seeing gas creep up to over $5.00 a gallon.

That spare wheel solution is less then ideal. I´m not sure what to think, they solved a problem they created, but the solution isn´t the most practical; if they only had the donut, I wouldn´t even consider it. But now I need to think if I´d like to take the trouble of mounting the spare or taking a chance that i won´t need it.

It’s not a huge deal in my mind. The temporary spare is sufficient for most on road situations, so the full size spare ability is actually kinda nice to have that if a person so chooses it’s beneficial. Sure it would be nice to simply have the full-size fit under the floor but if that wasn’t feasible this a decent solution. Remember some pickups even now can’t fit their full-size spares in the traditional location. If my memory serves some of them do not even have a spare aside from the one slapped into their bed area.

I love the new look! I will have to see one in person. I hope the driver's seat goes UP higher than the 2023 CR-V. I'm only 5'3" and I feel like the seat is still not high enough for me. Our old 2003 CR-V raised higher than this one.

The rear diff is between a locker and LSD. In Sand and Mud, it “locks” up to the torque limit of the rear diff, after which it acts like an LSD.

1:37 I had never seen before a tire whose stem sticks out sideways. This is dangerous for city driving too if you curb the wheel, you may get a flat tire. They half solved a problem of their own making due to poor rim design

I feel like Honda shot themselves in the foot with this one. No one buys them now because they offer terrible value for the money compared to the CRV and Pilot for daily driving. And as an off roader, I'd rather buy a used 4Runner. It's a better option compared to the brand new $Runner, but almost anything does.
