I have several of these cards. I started collecting (again) around 1980. I had a collection as a kid, mostly 60's cards, and gave them away. I stumbled upon a card show as a 30 year old and I couldn't believe what I had given away. So I started collecting again and built up a decent collection. 🙃 Some day I am going to get motivated and go through them and sort them out. Maybe find out what they are worth. I do have a sentimental attachment to them.

What memories. '83--'86 was a tremendous run of quality sets and tons of rookies with HOF/speculator interest. Alas, some didn't pan out, but generated a ton interest at the time. Eric Davis comes to mind. Nobody remembers him, but back in the day, they were comparing him to Willie Mays.

stumbled onto this video today. My Youngest Son and I started collecting these cards in the early 80's. I cant remember the exact year we started, now after watching this video i want to get them out. They have been in storage for years. I dont even know if my Son still has his. He ended up joining the service in the early 90's, at a much older age than most young ppl join. He did very well, he was with the 3rd Infantry division who first went into Iraq for that war. He took care of all the weapons for them, and his vehicle he rode in, armored, was kept back in the line, and well protected. He came home eventually, but was in one of time/life magazine called 21 days to Iraq. He then started teaching weaponry at our local base here in Wi. He earned many certificates, and was trained in many different jobs he held. He had framed certificates that covered all of one wall in his large study. He really enjoyed teaching there at that base. But the work he had to do in Iraq caught up with him, and he separated from the Military employment. But it didnt stop him from going to school. He is in the last page's of that Time/Life magazine, he is pictured with one other, and they were tasked to do what we would find very hard to do as citizens/non military, and that work came back to haunt him in later years. It is a picture, their backs only, and they are just following orders, tagging and Identifying. Now I want to get those cards out and remember a better time with him as a teenager, the fun we shared with those baseball cards. They have been well stored. Should all be in good condition. All bought new.

I got sick during USAF Basic Training in 1988 and a Sergeant in the hospital got me into collecting Baseball cards as a means to keep me sane. He had me use gloves and acid free holders to store my cards; some of which are on your list. Not surprisingly these cards have a special meaning to me. - Thanks for the video, I hadn't thought about them in years. I spent a total of 45 days in the hospital. The first five in isolation as they had no idea what was going on; the next five in ICU and the remaining 35 in the cardiac ward. End result I had a thyroid storm that caused congestive heart failure. I spent an additional 4-5 months in casual status (sickness/injury recovery/separation flight). During that time with help I successfully dogged the medical review board till the point if they kicked me out the USAF would have had to retire me. I was honorably separated in 1992. I wasn’t offered reenlistment assuming either from my medical history or the reduction in size of the military at that time.

Hoping to get a little insight on the value of my old cards but it seems this is mostly just "Tiffany" cards. meh
@MelvinZoopers3 жыл бұрын
I love this video but as a kid growing up I never even heard of Topps Tiffany. You should do a video and exclude all of the error cards and all of the Glossy and Tiffany cards.

If only Jack Buck’s son could have a call like that one of these days, sports would be as fun to watch now as back in the 80’s. Nah, probably not

I really friggen dislike that guy’s kid. Jack Buck was talented entertaining and really did his homework. The kid is … at best he was a good receiver, but he should have a microphone.

I agree, Joe is a very pale imitation of his father. That Kirk Gibson at bat still gives me goosebumps to this day. (And I like the A's). Nothing Joe has done has done anything but maybe put me to sleep a few times.

Wow.. I have to start going through my boxes I had a baseball card shop when I was a kid. I know I have 2-4 dozen Jr. rookies and pages (3 ring binders) of the Ricky rookies. Back then.. they where NOT the hot sellers. This is going to be fun!

I have a Griffey Jr rookie card that I actually got signed by JR Griffey when he played for the Reds. It's my holy grail!!

i love randy johnson. sucks his rookie is so low, he is such a character i feel like he is going up in the future
@collectiblesource39023 жыл бұрын
The traded rookie is even better imho. It may be worth less but looks a hell of a lot more iconic in that Mariners Uni. The Topps Traded Tiffany is my favorite if his rookies for that reason alone.
@raphaelbiello90953 жыл бұрын
@@collectiblesource3902 yup I agree, Randy Johnson and maddux traded Tiffany cards are incredibly under priced right now but only because it was mid junk wax era, once the junk wax era population eventually goes down all these topps traded and 90’s cards are going to be fucking gold

Kirk Gibsons home run (With full context) was absolutely the greatest moment in baseball history…. IMO.

I completely agree BUT Vin Scullys call of it is wayyyyy more historic and dramatic

@@rip_blue150 Maybe but my greatest memory was when Goose Gossage convinced Dick Williams, (padre's manager), to not walk him...Gibby proceeded to hit one into the upper deck of Tiger Stadium driving in 3! They won the world series that day. Wow!

the only one I would rank higher (off the top of my head) was the Joe Carter world series clinching home run vs Mitch Williams in 93

The tiffany are worth more and I see why you show them but PSA 10 of the regular set would help out people more when they want to send in a card to try getting a PSA 10 great channel

Welp looks like I have to go digging. Was huge into collecting back then. I know I have several of these cards upstairs stored away in my boxes. Have never gone through them because everyone always says the 80s cards were worth nothing so I never bothered digging threw them. Thanks for the heads up and upload.

A had a decent amount in the 80s when I was a kid. I had dream cards from 85 of Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla(Pirates), Dave Winfield and Willie Randolph(Yankees). Had a Sid Fernandez card(Mets). Not a lot of Mets or Yankee cards though. I did have a Billy Martin card. Had a Dusty Baker card when he was playing for the A's. These are just from 85 which of course weren't on sale until 86.

I have about a handful of griffy rookie cards that I got from collecting as a child and I remember when it was up to a couple thousand in the early to mid 90’s this was when you had to look in a becket to find your prices was awesome

Great video. It was nice to show my kids that dad had many of these. I was about their age when I started collecting. Good thing I was into baseball cards and not girls at 14. haha.

im 43 now and im pretty sure i have 20 of these 25 in my closet. I know i got Canseco, Griffey, Mcgwire, Bo Jackson, Mattingly, Bonds. I had no idea they were worth this much

Great video. Brings back alot of wonderful memories. The 1980 Rickey Henderson rookie card to me is one of the most beautiful cards I've ever seen. Everything about it. Just beautiful. And interesting tid bit at the end. Just goes to show how many great players have the PED shadow hovering over their prolific careers..
