After 8 years of my drumming, this is the best drum solo lesson I've ever seen.
@Thedrummersalmanac11 жыл бұрын
Hi JayNine1209, Thanks for the reply... I would agree, that stopping at your wrists is definitely the problem. Think of speed like gears on a bike or a car. If you drive a stick shift, you know that a low gear has a ton of power to get the car moving, but as the car goes faster it is too much power so you need to shift to a higher gear as to not burn out your transmission. Your body works the same way w/ drums. Try to develop all your gears. Shoulders > Arms > Wrists > Fingers > Bounce. ~J

Jason, brilliant. It is exactly what I needed & am truly grateful for your input.! :) I have played for many years professionally. Not being a teacher many drummers have asked e how to this or how to do that... I get overly emphatic & end up losing myself & them in a deep puddle of beats/riffs (yes in time but without a direction/foundation/exercise.. You sir have made this so very simple..tytyty! I also do have ADD so its a challenge anyways for me to convey to others very well.. p.s. Honestly, I have been over 27 years a professional drummer in Las Vegas (now retired) & I say this not to impress you but to sincerely compliment you & this video..! 'Bravo. Best regards JG

Awesome!! I guess I have more motivation working on my solos now! Basically my "weakness" is the ending of a solo, like doing several rolls over all the toms in a fast speed…I can see in your video you basically only use your fingers to apply the rhythm or the speed for the sticks to roll…I think i always try being ultra fast through using my wrists..maybe that's the problem…

Very informative video! What some drummers instinctively do and others (myself) have to come to is the realization that playing drums is learning physical motions. Different motions make different rhythms. You know you are playing something correct when the motion "feels" fluid in your limbs. I'm convinced that the more fluid your motions the better your time. I'll go so far as to say, the "swinging" of the stick is what produces great "swing" time. Thanks for the video and allowing me my "two cents" worth.

@@Thedrummersalmanac Try these sticking patterns. rrrll rrrll reversed lllrr lllrr Play then as sixteenths and triplets. The motion is Muller Whip and starting a fill with three lefts or rights open up a lot of ideas either played as triplets or sixteenth.

Billy Barton very cool... it’s like a Moeller Triplet + 2... and it moves across the time in a group of 5. It feels a little like a Chaffee 5c sticking which is rlrll ... great exercise... thanks.
@webstercat5 жыл бұрын
@@Thedrummersalmanac The key for me was realizing the hand motion makes the rhythm. Another important moment for me was learning the smallest hand motions and how being able to burn at ppp. That is where I realized touch, something I had never considered. By the way studied with Chaffee way back in the day.
@Thedrummersalmanac5 жыл бұрын
@@webstercat I would've loved to study with Chaffee. I've heard mixed things... but the one constant was that he was very tough.

+Ishan Dave Sure... work on it, ....slowly and always with a click. The trick I teach my students is to count it to the click first. Always lead with your head, not your hands. If you can count it in time, then you will play it in time. I also have comprehensive practice routines on this at my website thedrummersalmanac.com ...should you want extra help. Any question please reach out to me there!
