The other day, my hairdresser asked me if I was French (which I am not). Perhaps she wanted a big tip!!! :) A compliment for sure.

As an Italian-American, I was also raised to sit down at the table. Wait for everyone to sit. Enjoy your food. Linger at the table. Hopefully more Americans can adjust to this lifestyle!

Yes, that's right, there is a lot in common between the French and Italian culture, or Southern Europe as a whole.

I always lose weight in France, but gain it back when I go back to the U.S. Another reason the French are thinner is because they walk more. Where I live, I have to drive everywhere, even to shop for food. I take about 25,000 steps a day in France, but only about 5,000 in the U.S. I walk 5 times as much in France.

Yes that's right! Thanks for the addition Kristen!

I lived 17 years in Canada. I agree with you, their food is tasteless because most of it is imported, so nothing is fresh. All the veggies arrive at least 6 months before they are at the supermarkets shelves, they are kept frozen till they do an accelerated process to make them ripe. Most of the people don’t cook, they order pizza or take away from restaurants that’s part of Canadian culture! Now that I live in France, I am in the opposite side of the coin and I am extremely grateful of buying everything fresh and local. I have lived in 8 countries, and the quality of products I find in France not even Italy has it. God bless France and all the farmers 🇫🇷♥️

I was born in Mauritius and have always been slim due to the Mauritian diet. My mother was a gourmet and made French and Mauritian food all the time. She made the best choux à la crème, mille-feuille, and napolitain. I was just 6 years old when we moved to America, but we never ate like Americans. But I’ll tell you something funny - once in a while, she would tell me & my sisters that she wouldn’t be able to cook dinner and we’d have to eat a Swanson’s TV dinner - and my sisters and I were elated because we were tired of home-cooked meals. And when she told us that we’d be going out to McDonald’s for dinner, we were over the moon! 😂🍛🥗

Ahah! I guess as children (and not only) we want what we don't have. What about now! Do you appreciate more home-made food or a McDonald's dinner? ;)

@@expatinfrance Good question - I absolutely love eating home-cooked meals! Just last night, I made some white bean soup in my Hawkins pressure cooker. In addition, I have become a vegetarian - so I don’t eat any meat or seafood. I don’t eat or crave junk food - I may have it every now and then if I don’t feel like cooking, or if I’m pressed for time. I guess we usually crave the foods that we grew up eating.🥗🍛🥦🍠🥑🥐🌽🍌🍎🍓🥭🍇🥬🥒🫒🥖🍞🍍🫑🍐

I agree. The North American diet caters to being 'stuffed' rather than to a feeling of being adequately satisfied. Not only that but when we eat in front of a screen we end up eating rather unconsciously and except for the first few bites we don't even really taste or enjoy the food that much. The results of these eating habits are apparent in the poor health of millions. Thank you for your healthy perspective !

I love this topic. Thank you. I just found and subscribed to your channel. I would love for you to do a what I eat in a day video. That would be great. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.

It is not only the diet, that French women don't get fat, but in surplus they know to take castor oil in a regular manner - look at KZbin -, and this one they learn from a very young age.

As a Japanese person, I always find it so interesting that books like “let’s be like French women and never get fat!” always sell very well in Japan. We’re already thinner than any other people. Your videos are always very interesting, thank you for sharing ❤

So were you expected as a child to finish your plate even when you were full or was it okay to leave the rest?
@expatinfrance3 жыл бұрын
Oh my good! Yes... I remember spending sunny Saturday afternoon in front on my lunch plate that I didn't want to finish... My parents never gave up... And if for some reason, there was no time for me to finish, I'd have it for dinner... Now I feel bad when I don't feel like finishing my plate, so I always finish it eventhough I don't feel like it. Was it the same for you?
@carola-lifeinparis3 жыл бұрын
@@expatinfrance The goal was to finish it. I never did, so my father usually finished for me, but I still try to, but I had expected the French children to maybe not be taught that because if you eat after feeling full, that is certainly not a good way to stay thin
@edieschwartz73423 жыл бұрын
@@carola-lifeinparis I was brought up to finish what was on my plate. I think it teaches you to take only what you think you can finish. I could go back for more but only if the plate was empty... and if there was any left.
