Thank you so much, love the song, it almost does the work itself

Thank you for this, Soren. It's very inspiring! As a bassist I am often struggling coming with good solo playing as I seem to be tied to the walking bass because that's what I do usually. I'll try to work with target notes. Thank you again!

Thank you, the target notes and guide tone lines makes the line making much easier. How about just filling the 8th notes in the walking bass line. I practice this often. Half notes and quarter notes going into 8th notes

Very good stuff here. This was incredibly helpful to me as a classical performer. So many improvisation videos I've watched don't really help you understand improv. I think improv instruction for classical musicians would be a good video topic for you. There's a lot of classical musicians who have a solid understanding of harmony but are very uncomfortable with improv. I think you could get a lot of views this way.

i call this concept 'harmonic rhythm.' i feel like it is related to the 'clave.' the lead sheet might tell you to change to Bb7 on the 1 of bar 5, but you know that the change actually takes place on the '4 and' of the 4th bar due to melody and style.
@sorenballegaardmusic Жыл бұрын
Love your thinking. Indeed clave. And changing on the 4 is so strong playing over the bar line. Thank you so much for commenting. Love it

Are you willing to learn these ideas by ear exclusively?

I like to learn ideas and lines in all ways possible. Learning by ear is great, but when you also learn in your mind and in your fingers. I would learn in all possible ways I could.
