#4: KZbinrs... they are everywhere now, from all countries, a lot have zero concern for anyone except for making their vid for the couple of views they get per vid... They have zero fks about anyone elses privacy... a lot are getting militant about their "shots" and are quite rude and pushy against anyone who they think are getting in their way... others are looking to "create" a reaction which will go viral... aka getting someone angry at them, or adding "snide" comments about innocent people/natives/etc in their vid for the same reason... seen many many occurrences on the street/in the malls/in restaurants/etc...

YES!!! I have learned this while living in Panama and Colombia. Avoid politics, avoid religious extremists of any religion, don't discuss money and avoid money braggarts, the grumpy angry whining people, and watch out for the ho mongers whose sole purpose is to be with girls the entire time of their stay as they believe they are 300lb love Gods. Lastly, you need $2,000 to $3,000 a month in SE Asia or Latin America to truly live a quality lifestyle and not be slumming it. Ramze is a realist and speaks sense. Asia and Latin America overlap with the types of expats that are there.

Spot on,we all arrive here as the vacation guy,most spend a few months stuck in that mode(I did) but we learn and evolve and hopefully never into the grumpy complaining guy,you’re correct in saying it can rub off on you,you have to be careful,I’ve found myself doing it on times but reign it in and distance yourself from those influencers,unfortunately I spend most of my social time alone or just with my family to avoid these types,it’s not easy to find like minded people here,especially in pattaya,luckily I enjoy my own company

Thanks for crushing my dreams Ramze! Just kidding - I like your honesty. Having a normal life is so important. Short breaks away and having mini vacations is the way to go. Big-time props again for your observations - I now avoid the "vacation mode" guys here in Medellín like the plague - after four years here I've moved way beyond that. Far prefer to put some money away each month so I can take my own vacations to other locales in Colombia or abroad and then cut loose a little while still partaking of the sightseeing, outdoor activities, dance venues, etc. that they may offer. Another category I might add to the "must avoids" are the hucksters (and these can be other expats or locals as well). You know the type - the ones that are always pushing some kind of shady hustle they hope to rope people into, more often than not primarily for their own benefit. Don't fall for their B.S. - in fact in general the more self-reliant you can be in all situations, the better off you'll be.

Well, i could trick you because when i am in thailand, i only eat thai food and go do "healthy" things but i am in holiday mode as well LOL Complaining without giving an alternative, well, it is not easy / not worth the time to have an alternative or the alternative would require so many changes to happen that it's almost impossible. I understand what you mean about those people but sadly many of those complaining, are people on the last phase of number one: when they are gridlocked and not happy in thailand anymore and probably no chance/way to go back to their countries. I love number 3 :) I don't know, I go to thailand since 30 years and actually my plan was to retire there but my life made me change my mind before i even did something toward that plan. Now a day, i absolutly not sure if i would like to live in thailand. I am maybe ready to give it a try for a year or so but sure not go live there at point blanc. You want to ask me why?? I can speak fluently thai and i spend 99% of my time in thailand with thai people so I had many interesting discussions over the years. Let's say that i hate the facade that many thai people try to uphold in the name of thai culture but behind it, there is much racism, interest, bad thinking, ignorance, unreal dreams. Even if I would live in thailand, i speak thai, i maybe even change my religion to buddism, I think i will always be the stupid *farang* (the stranger for who doesn't speak thai) that disrespect thai culture and probably is only good for money not allowing me to integrate. Sadly this is confirmed by many people i know that live in thailand and the fact that they have isolated themself from thai and many times from foreigners as well.

Not entirely related, but you're a good person to ask this, so here it is. Is Thailand in general, and the Thai government in particular, getting sick of foreigners in general, and resident expats in particular. If so, and if this is the case, is this making Thailand less desirable as an expat destination, than others available?
@RamzeTravels2 ай бұрын
If you stay out of the news and social media (probably smart in most countries) you would never know what year it is in Thailand. Trust me the Thai government isn’t sick of foreigners. They’ve added a lot of new visas and incentives in recent years to attract them. Some things could be better, some things could be worse. Such is life.

No . . . except maybe in the few locations with tourist overload. The locals have abandoned Venice. Japanese are unhappy with the behavior of tourists in Kyoto. Locals are protesting the over tourism in Barcelona. Pattaya, Phuket, Samui and some other islands have a tourist reputation in Thailand, I would think. Outside the party zones though the Thai people and Thai government accept us just fine. Like any country they just expect us to behave like normal decent human beings which most of us do. I think a lot of westerner complaints stem from the ever changing visa policies. Tourist visa policies change fairly frequently and in recent years they have changed for the better. The most common retirement visa, the O visa, hasn’t changed in over a decade. The new DTV has been enthusiastically received. People see visas like the Elite and LTR and think Thailand only wants rich expats. Of course they want wealthy expats, like any country, but catering a few visas towards wealthier people doesn’t affect the options for everyone else. People complain about Thai visa complexity but that complexity allows a lot of different types of people to come here. Yes they want us to come as tourists and long stay expats. We seem to live in an age out loud complainers.

I avoid people who inundate me with loud negative energy and constantly complain. This includes especially "Wutbürger" (angry citizens) and losers who make criticizing the homeland (in my case, Germany) their hobby. I could never stand these types in Germany, and I don’t need them in my retirement. I avoid people who are on the verge of drowning in their own problems and who demand massive help that I cannot and do not want to provide. I strictly avoid anything related to drugs, including cannabis. I have no interest in paying for sex. I have nothing against these women, but I am a loyal guy who loves his wife above all else. I have no interest in allowing women who view me as a customer anywhere near me. I avoid conspiracy theorists of any kind: I’m not interested in having pointless discussions that lead nowhere. I’m a curious person. I’m not interested in people who have no curiosity left. I've met a lot of cheerful, lively, curious people in Thailand. I find you, from what I see and hear, quite pleasant - actually completely relaxed. So I can't follow your last piece of advice. If I happen to cross paths with you in Pattaya, I’ll suggest we have a good meal together. Italian, French - it's up to you. Or good Thai food.

The thing that bothers me about the " you can't live here on $1000 a month" is you contradict it and say you can if you live cheap enough. I look to the budget videos to understand the basic costs. If I can cover my basic expenses for $1000 a month and I have a income of $1500 a month and savings of $X then I figure I'm ok. If you were to say I need $2000 a month to live there and I have $2000 a month then I don't have enough bc I didn't understand half that $2000 was fun money or travel money or whatever.
