What sucks the most is that I actually think a Hanna Barbera cinematic universe is a perfect idea to revitalize the entire library of Hanna Barbera cartoons, including Scooby Doo, which I feel like has been running out of ideas in the past few years. I've got like a million ideas for how I would set everything up and structure them the same way the MCU does in my notes app. And regardless of whether they needed a prequel holiday special before getting tax-write offed, that shouldn’t discourage WBA from making a follow-up that actually felt like Scooby Doo while making other projects based on the other cartoons that could fit into different genres to make each of these projects stand out! Like how the MCU Spider-Man movies still felt like Spider-Man movies that frequently acknowledged it’s in the MCU. One of my other ideas is bringing Scrappy back. Scooby Doo needed Scrappy then and they need him NOW!!! But with or without their shared universe plan, the franchise needs to evolve, especially if Scoob is gonna have sequels. And what better way to do it than to have the next generation aspire to be like Mystery Inc. Scrappy symbolizes that idea and I wish Warner Bros would do better with this character than pander to the character's hatedom. There's another video called The Rise and Fall of Scrappy Doo I highly recommend you search Also, if they were gonna redo the origin story, I’ve always preferred my own headcanon that the gang are people from different schools or even towns that are brought together by a singular mystery and grow from coworkers to bffs. That’s how I would want their origin story to go. James Gunn IS rebuilding a new DC universe and he could probably even help build the Hanna Barbera universe since he’s already written the theatrical live action Scooby movies! Overall, there’s stuff I enjoy about the movie but it’s failings just make me heartbroken.

Yeah this was a MASSIVE disappointment to me. It feels like they were doing a The Mummy trying to start a shared Hanna Barbara universe and, like mummy, failed miserably. At least Happy Halloween next time will be great for everyone, even Velma.

Mystery Incorporated had an episode with the exact same plot as this film. Season 2, Ep. 14: "Heart of Evil", where Mystery Inc helps out the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt take down the villain, only for it to be revealed at the end that the villain was only doing what he was doing was to save a loved one. The creators of Mystery Inc also worked on this movie btw.

1:18, It technically did get a Thetarical Release a Year later on the same Day. Just thought I point that out incase anyone else wasn't aware of this until now.

I kind of like Amanda Seyfried as Daphne but the rest of the voice acting is hit and miss to say the least
