Hey everyone! It seems like a bunch of people are watching this video all of a sudden. This is my second video, and it was actually after posting this one that I noticed how slowly I was speaking. I put all my effort into articulating and, perhaps new to the platform, I didn't even notice my speed until someone pointed it out to me. I appreciate all the comments, but be aware I've known how slow I spoke in this video for over a year now. Put it on a higher speed if you must; I talk faster in more recent videos! Thanks for all the support and criticisms!

There is one cool thing about the 2 fishes. When a yoshi gets eaten, a speech bubble with a heart/hearts in it appear, just like the yoshis, when they eat fruit. The funny thing about that is, that each Fish has his "favorite yoshi" xD for example, the red fish likes the red and pink yoshi (8 hearts) but don't like the blue and light blue yoshi (1 heart) and the blue fish likes the blue and light blue yoshi (8 hearts) but don't like the red and pink yoshi (1 heart). green and yellow causes 3 hearts on each fish. And I think white and black always 8 hearts. Also the Yoshi's voices are different, too. red and pink = high voice green and yellow = medium voice blue and light blue = deep voice white = very high voice black = very deep voice
@NickRickTheOnionling7 жыл бұрын
also the favorite fruit of each yoshi green = watermelon yellow = banana red & pink = apple blue & cyan = grapes black & white = all fruits (even hot pepper... wich is not a fruit, I know :P) lucky fruit is random.

When I told my brother about why I would find this game insanely hard he would blindly insult me telling me that it's far to easy. What he didn't know was tgat I was doing the 30 melon run on all stages. Which is what has me struggling. Even after I told him, he claims that one can simply look up a faq to find all the melon locations... Shamlessness aside, I told him to try doing that on the stage with the big fish that insta kills you in one gulp. Needless to say, he came up with a shiton of excuses like saying the game has trash physics and that the fish is far too fucking annoying. Even when doing a normal tun he couldn't do shit. Easily one of the most pleasing moments in my life~

You can not think this way, because collecting all the Melons is optional. Even Yoshi's Island with 100 Points in each Level is optional. You just can run to the finish line and the game is super easy. Or beat Mario 64 with only 70 Stars needed to go to Bowser. Like this Video said: it's a Challenge. Nothing you must do to beat the Game.

As a kid, I attempted this challenge, but didn't get very far. Hell, I forget if I even got past the first level (this was before I started using the internet for most of my gaming info). It left me kinda hopeful that getting 30 melons in every stage would net you the game's "true ending" (it really bugged me that, despite the story stating that Bowser turned Yoshi's world into a picture book, the game ends with everyone still in the book and said book closing). Sadly, I take it that you don't really get anything from doing this challenge aside from bragging rights, and that dissatisfactory ending is the only ending that this game has.

Fun Fact: Some (if not all) levels allow you to complete additional Fruit Challenges, one for each fruit in the game. Which levels/challenges you can attempt depend on the Lucky Fruit determined at the start of the game, but you'll even get the corresponding fruit to appear behind Yoshi upon clearing the level.

I am convinced that getting all the honeydews (at least I think that's what they are) is the way the game was intended to be played. I have an old strategy guide somewhere that gives the locations of each of the melons and hearts in each of the game's 6 worlds from 1-1 to 6-4. My only real gripe is the way the game is set up you can only play one stage in a world on each playthrough meaning on minimum you have to play through the game 4 times to play all the stages in each of the game's 6 worlds and each world has 4 stages each. Essentially half of what Yoshi's Island had so it is short enough to begin with. Thankfully Trial Mode is a thing but you still have to play the stages in Story Mode in order to unlock the stages in the Trial Mode level select.

"Oh man, this game is so fun and relaxing! I think I'm gonna complete it! Yea!" This is the thinking that lead me down the road of the 30 melon challenge, and what was once a fun, happy romp with Yoshi being adorable turned into a careful, calculated game of find the hay in the needlestack, at any moment all your work can be ripped away from you by a melon flying down a pit. Every second, you need to be working on finding the next melon, make sure you find every melon before you hit a checkpoint to minimize how much you have to redo, and ration your health since the only ways to heal it are by eating fruit and a couple enemies. It was a nightmare.

This game retailed for 60 dollars, a full scale retail for most major titles today, but cheaper then some of the names around or before this games time. Whenever I hear the initial minutes of the video detailing how levels can be beaten in 5 minutes or so, I think of Jeff Gerstmann bringing up the value proposition for Strider at 80$ being hard to swallow back in the day when it was 2-3 hours of gameplay. While I don't know if this game is that short myself having not played it, it would've made it a tougher pill to swallow at the time for some gamers already clamoring for anything on their N64. That's just my on the moment impression though, as I've always seen this game shadow in the distance but have never given it more then the obligatory glance (alongside the Cookie title). It's nice to see there's at least a hidden challenge to offer a real opportunity at replayability, even if some seem goofy or rather, obnoxious. "Extra Special" was the tone of the minigame segments. I will never not hear your voice when I think of an "oh, yay" in the form of "Extra Special." That part made me smile quite wide. By the way, I also suddenly watched this all of a sudden. I don't believe I watched a single video of yours prior to this entering my feed randomly one day, so hooray I found Particular Mushroom! :D I appreciate the simplicity of your profile pic by the way!

3:17 I know this is late, but I’ve been watching some Japanese KZbinrs with translations, and I think I can explain this for you. So, in English, watermelons, cantaloupes, and honeydew melons are all called “melons”, with “watermelon” even including the word, but in Japanese, that’s not the case. The Japanese word “melon” (or really “meron” or “メロン” due to how Japanese pronunciation works) is a loan word from English that only refers to a specific kind of melon: the one called a melon in Yoshi’s Story (I believe honeydew); meanwhile, the Japanese word for “watermelon” is not a loanword: “suika” (or “西瓜”), and it doesn’t contain “melon” at all. There is a similar thing with mushrooms. In Japanese, the word for “mushroom” is “kinoko” (“きのこ”), but mostly only the ones native to Japan; they actually also borrowed the word “mushroom” from English to refer to mushrooms _not_ native to Japan. In both cases, most Japanese people have no idea that we don’t use the words they borrowed in the same way they do, much like how most westerners are unaware that, in the original Japanese, “anime” and “manga” refer to _any_ animation or comic, respectively, rather than specifically ones from Japan or of a certain art style. Because of this, it’s likely that the localizers/translators for the game didn’t realize that we have a specific word for what they call “melon” and/or that English-speakers use “melon” either as a general term for fruits like watermelon, cantaloupes, and honeydew or as a shortened name for “watermelon”. They likely _were_ aware that “melon” is a loanword from English, but that “suika” most certainly is not. As such, they knew to translate “suika” to “watermelon”, but not to translate “melon” to “honeydew” or something. It doesn’t help that calling a honeydew a melon isn’t technically wrong even though it’s more often used to refer to watermelons, and “melon” is also shorter. As such, a lot of times, games originally programmed by people who grew up in Japan will often just call honeydew melons “melons” and watermelons “watermelons” when they get translated or localized to English.

All melons is a bastard and a half to get through, and I hate to admit, I did need some guidance since some melons are well hidden. I don’t recall you mentioning this, but when Yoshi flutter jumps, how *high* he jumps is dependent on not only you holding the A button, but also where the joystick is pointing. That knowledge saved my ass a multitude of times because there are scenarios where a damage knock back sent me to a bottomless pit only to recover by holding the A button and holding “Up” on the joystick! Two of the melon races (one being the jungle swamp you mentioned, and the other is the ball-climbing race) made the flutter jump boost an absolute blessing! I got melons for all stages on the Wii Virtual Console: a version where I CANNOT use restore points! What a bitch of a game that I still love to this very day!

Bryce Hoodie, I don't think that's how it works. If he wanted make more cash he would shit out 10 videos a day. Not to unlike a certain tit milking, money grubbing, good for nothing channel... *cough* WatchMojo *cough* ... I do beleive the slow flow of his videos stems from not only the desire to push out entertaining and fruitful content, that one will remember for an extended period of time, but also a severe lack of direction. He's still new, and trying to find his place in this over-saturated video streaming site. He needs a theme for which to tie his videos together, and help prepare for the next. For Ex. "The Completionist" or IHE's "Search For The Worst". Maybe he could focus on a particular game, or challenge that spans throughout various games? But I'm sure he could figure something more enticing if he really tried! Once he has a solid gimmick tieing his videos together, he can begin to expand outward, and trying new things. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that he will find his place, and once he does we should expect him to begin uploading regularly.

I did a few 30 melon challenges but I could never get the flutter-jump mini-game and some levels were actually too difficult for me to clear. 0:51 the flower in the upper left of the screen was later used in one of the minigames in super mario 64 DS where you pull off its petals and then depending if the number of petals is even or odd, it will tell you if someone you love loves you or doesn't love you

Only viewable in 1.5x speed -.- however, still a well thought-out video for a classic. You've inspired me to try this, I learned a lot

I really appreciate when these types of games offer something, anything for more hardcore fans. People often say to "It's a kids game of course it's easy" but that is no real excuse. This is proof of that. Kirby games are also a good example. Very easy main campaign but the True Arena can give us a run for our money. 10x as much if we decide to do it without any abilities. That is some serious challenge right there. Kingdom Hearts as well. It has loads of fun Disney characters and interactions, but nothing is stopping hardcore players from playing through the entire game at Level 1, a playthrough where most hits will instantly defeat your character even at full HP. It also has brutal secret bosses that are among the most difficult in action game history. Your game can still have your game be kid oriented or kid friendly while still offering some value to hardcore players. Since the hardcore stuff is optional there is hardly any reason not to include some.

You kinda talk like that narrator from Animaniacs. You know, "It's time for another good idea, bad idea." This is super badass and I've watched this three times because of it.

Here's an even potentially harder challenge, try to get 30 of Yoshi's Lucky Fruit. I say you don't have to do it on every level since I am not certain if it's possible, but I do know some levels I played it is possible. In order to do this, you have to eat only the selected Lucky Fruit when doing a level. Now you're probably thinking, is there even 30 Lucky Fruit in a single level? No there usually are never that many and the only way possible to eat 30 Lucky Fruit is by eating a Heart Fruit (the invincibility power up) and whenever you see certain enemies, more specifically Shy Guys, if you do a ground pound, all of them change into the Lucky Fruit making it more possible for you to add to your single fruit streak. This is the main way to be able to eat 30 of the selected Lucky Fruit and just like eating all 30 Melons in a level, the level complete screen changes into the 30 fruit that you ate that are the same. So say for instance you ate 30 Apples, the background image will be an Apple after completing the level. But yeah, I say go for it. I personally thought it was a fun optional challenge since the game puts more emphasis on Yoshis eating Melons compared to any other fruit so I wanted to do the opposite. :D

Incidentally, if you want to avoid confusion, call the melons honeydews or something like that; the melons certainly look like one.

The game over in this game always scared me. The baby Yoshis are good as well dead, as nobody else is there to save them, the yoshis ate forever depressed, and the death screens alone were terrifying to me (and they still do!) I was 6 when I had it, though, and even then I got to about World 2.

Cripes, so many memories of this game. I was not judgy when I was a kid, and Yoshi's Story was one of my first and favorites. I actually started the '30 melon challenge' on my own, convinced there had to be a hidden ending or something. I never completed world 6. I tried when I was 8. I tried when I was 14. I tried when I was 20. Couldn't do it. I can do a level 1 playthrough of Dark Souls, I could never get the 30 friggin' melons in world 6, no matter which level I tried.

oh gods... My brother and I noticed the 30 melon challenge as kids We could not beat every level doing it. I believe we managed to do every 1 level and 2 level, got stuck on a 3 level I think. Oh and yes... that fish was awful... we never played that level >.
