btw for those that want to know the context, the original poster has deleted their account and posts because after people read through them, it turns out that the players essentially disrespected and kept messing with the dm for the sake of annoying him until he went onto a haitius due do burn out from this. He then returned and gave them these rules

What i feel happened is he's a serious campaign dm And got a lol randumb group/group hangout group And they all stuck with it because of yknow niceties/sunk cost fallacy to the detriment of everyone No dnd> bad dnd, my best advice i can give to others is this: *don't be afraid to talk to your dm if you're having issues and vice versa* so many of these posts happen because of a lack of communication and the only way many people can learn is if you talk to them and help them understand why

This feels split down the middle between "reasonable rules to keep the game state active, just worded very angrily" and "throwing a hissy-fit because I can't rein in my players when they try to pull dumb shit". Probably an overcorrection based on nonsense that players have pulled in the past, but it sounds less like a rule list and more like a targeted lecture.

I almost feel sorry for the guy, you can tell there's a lot of history to how this list came about. That said, his attitude is terrible lol.

@@ZekeFreek part of me feels like that but then it's also 'if you find my rules unfair then im going home AND if I gave you a ride then find your own way home' like that doesn't even sound angry and at his wits end, that just screams complete asshole too me. Now if someone attacked him verbally or physically then sure, but just for disagreeing with his ruling? I think he was always an asshole

"If you get too stoned or drunk to play" is what got me. An absurd level of disrespect for other people's time. The DM is probably an asshat in his own right but I cannot even imagine playing with someone again after they got too sloshed to pay attention in session.

@@fairystail1 nnnnoooo...that's definitely angry and at his wits end. Your definition of it doesn't define how all people react that way. Just screams that you're looking to mitigate the blame on the players, to me. Which, if true, is quite frankly embarrassing behavior on your part.
@robinmohamedally75875 ай бұрын
@@fairystail1 also, it's cute that you leave out HOW they disagree with his rulings. That was obviously deliberate to support your stance. Weak. It's clear by how unhinged this guy is acting, one can easily extrapolate that they were somewhat constantly challenging his rulings, and during the game. If they brought it up to him after the game, he wouldn't be this crazy mad. If they were constantly undermining his DM authority, that would definitely explain how insanely angry he's acting, and how overboard he's going with the control freak rules. You don't have to be a psych major to understand this obvious shit, you just have to be mentally older than 18 years old and be around people long enough

I like rule 23. One thing that always bothered me about high fantasy is magic. Items are everywhere that doesn't sound like magic to me. That sounds like 711. If it's that common. Magic should be rare which would make it special. It's not too special if ye old Second hand store has a 1/2 a dozen magic items.

I don't have a problem with most of his rules in concept, it's more the attitude that's disagreeable.

This list is one of two things. It is either something written by a broken man, who has had to deal with far too many shitty players "friends" or otherwise. Or someone typed up like 20ish reasonable rules, slapped them into chatgpt and told it to "make that shit as hostile as possible, and add some of your own also hostile sounding."
@justseffstuff33085 ай бұрын
The "I will pack up and go home" on multiple of these rules, a punishment that affects all players for one's offense... At first I thought he just hated specifically the problem players, but no, he genuinely just does not care about the experience of a single person at his table, no matter how well they do at following his rules. Why even play the game at this point? He hates it, he doesn't seem to want the players to like it, what does he get out of it? This is clearly bad for his own mental state and he doesn't care about anyone else's either.
@robinmohamedally75875 ай бұрын
not at all what i see. He's suffered so bad from their collective narcissism that he wants the others to help in controlling the others' behavior. So if just one of them tries to break the rules, it looks like he's angling for the others to join in dissuading him/her from doing so, because they all get punished. He clearly doesn't care if they play any more, because he's had it up to here with their bullshit. My question is, why doesn't he just stop playing with them . altogether? Even if they're his friends? They're probably [and if the followup posts are to be believed, then he is] just ultimatums he gave because they're begging him to play with him again. He doesn't want to, already stopped playing with them, and will only do so if they behave themselves and act like fucking adults, for once.

There's a lot of fake worries out there, but I mostly believe this one. There are some really uptight people out there and people who really don't take things seriously either. Not that D&D should ever be as serious as life or death, but it does sound like the dm just wanted to sit down and play a straightforward game, but the players treated it more like a general hangout. There isn't a problem with either, but it wasn't meshing well here. All that, but also, it does sound like both the players and the dm are assholes to an extent.
