For an Ultra Short Throw Projector, a specialized screen makes all the difference due to the incident light angle. But, unless you have a dedicated cinema room it just looks ugly. This is absolutely the ideal solution!

Lasers are the light source. This is a DLP projector. Many years ago the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles had laser light shows. R-G-G lasers were used to "paint" images on the planetarium dome. Not being an engineer, maybe lasers cannot be "tuned" to display 0-256 intensity. But, that would be the way to project images for sure.
