Dama dam mast qalander is not folk song , it is Pakistan film dhamal version song first recorded in 1955 composed by music director Ashiq Hussain and lyrics by famous urdu poet Saghar Siddiqui... In seventies once again recorded in Pakistani Punjabi movie with same tune of 1955 composed by music director Nazir Ali , lyrics by Saghar Siddiqui and sang by legendary Madam Noor Jahan ... That time this song became mega hit and cross the borders.... Every one consider it sufi song .... Unfortunately an unjustified research and more than research assumptions took over the reality and cradit from real artists and creators.... Please search the truth... Ameer Khusro didn't know rhe single word of Punjab and Sindhi ... He new purbi urdu of Delhi.

People pick up on folk all the time, even directors. They may rearrange or slightly change lyrics but the basis still remains melodys of the people.

True choices, Agree fully . Late Pakistani background singer Mehdi Hassan sahib's name should have been mentioned for the Rajasthani folk song above, and late Pakistani folk singer, Inayat Ali, for Challa song.

Folk songs list incomplete without Mahdi lavya madve Gujarati folk song for garba and wedding. This song is used in bollywood movie sing by late Lata Mangeshkar ji. And also Pakistan singer copy this song.

Too much emphasis on Punjabi songs, and qawwalis. Each region of India has its own folk song. For example, you completely neglected the Purab region which has fantastic songs. Also West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, etc. Instead of rating songs as five Best, you should have shown folk songs from different regions, thus celebrating the diversity of our proud cultures. And talk less and play more song.
