Funny Story. Last month we flew into Vegas and drove to Arizona for a funeral. We drove back into Vegas and we planned on staying at a motel. It wasn't very good and we ended up driving to South Point. We were only there for like 6 hours, before our flight, but it was a nice room.

100% agree with South Point! Rooms are super clean, they give you an old school coupon book that has great deals. If you are over 50, they have $4 movies. All 11 restaurants are solid with the Silverado Steakhouse, Michael's and the buffet being our favorites

Hey what’s wrong with the casinos on the boulder hwy? I’ve visited vegas 3 times (I am from England) and once stayed at Sam’s Town and enjoyed it much more than the ones on the strip….and at a fraction of the price. They even have a free shuttle to the strip as well. Ample parking and a cool water show, bowling, decent pool, good restaurants and great casino floor. What’s not to love!?

When you fly to Vegas, you want to stay in Vegas, not at some cheap place out in the desert. I understand that it is good to have both but I am only coming for three nights. I am on the strip, or within feet of the strip. We all do Vegas different. I am glad people support the smaller places. They are not for me though.

@@thomasallen6980 Believe me, these are not "some cheap place out in the desert". These places, especially the JW Marriott, are luxury hotels that you might not find on the Strip for the price. Great job on that list! We've stayed at all of them, and just stayed at Durango which was very nice. We still prefer the JW Marriot w/ Rampart Casino over the 5 on your list. JW Marriot is just SOOOO relaxing, and the spacious grounds are wonderful for taking walks and enjoying the surroundings. The pool area is very nice w/ a waterfall and good size, and there's running creeks throughout the property. Rooms are huge, in need of some updates but still so well appointed. Rampart Casino @ JW Marriot is very good, not too big but still plenty of machines and tables. Best thing about the Rampart is the extra play you get over there, it seems like the overall gambling is looser than most other places. If you haven't been you need to give it a visit. They also have a buffet that's a good value for the quality of the food.

I've stayed at South Point at least 3 times and everything in the rooms always works perfectly. It's an impressive "in search of excellence" business with a great team that runs a 4-star hotel at 3-star prices. The location isn't great but the parking is free. The hotel organization owns & runs the Steak 'n' Shake, and that is also really well run. Only criticism: the lunch (or dinner? I forget) buffet wasn't very good when I went, so I only go there for breakfast for the omelettes. Sam's Town on Boulder isn't bad. Like Sam's Town, it has movie theaters on the property & free parking.
