I'm from Costa Rica and it's funny because people here ussually don't like San José city. When people ask us what's great from CR we say that only the beaches and the nature (national parks and volcanos). So it's like the first time I hear amazing stuff about San José. La verdad es que la ciudad de San José sí está bien fea, hay basura por todo lado, es difícil transportarse, y dependiendo del lugar y la hora es bastante insegura. Por suerte ella no fué cuando los sindicatos estaban en huelga por que igual y se llevaba otra impresión de Costa Rica

Actually Central America didn’t declare its independence there. It was in Guatemala the 15th of September of 1821, as Guatemala was the Capitanía General to Costa Rica the Act was received till the 28 of September and approved the 29 of October.

Sarah, Where did you get that it was in a place in San José that The Central American countries declared independence to Spain? It is false. It was in Guatemala that independence declaration took place. Furthermore, Costa Rica, which at that time was represented by the Province of Cartago, was under the jurisdiction of the Province of León (now Nicaragua), never signed the independence document. Please, try not to spread false information. Your are nice, charming, but double-check first before saying something that it is not true.

@@SarahFunky I took a photo of the plaque, it reads literally: "At the front of this place, 150 years ago, the San José Town House received and confirmed the Declaration of Independence of Central America"... So it goes like this... Independence was signed at Guatemala on September 15th 1821. Then messengers riding horses were dispatched to every country of the area with a notification, it took almost one month for the one coming to Costa Rica to arrive, because we were the furthest removed "province" form the General Capitany of Guatemala.... So we got said notification until october 14th and it wasn't ratified until october 29th... And Actually it wasn't until 1850 that Spain finally recognized it... You were almost right in everything, but you skipped the word "received", as in GOT... Hey, nice cool video about my hometown... I'm sad to tell you you have a couple of facts wrong, the most important of them the one about Central America Independence having been declared in our Central Park... The Independence process in this region happened on 1821 and mainly in Guatemala , which was the administrative head during the colonial times, we Costa Rican were here basically relaxing and having a cup of coffee while they were negotiating with the authorities over there. And most importantly, the Central Park wasn't built until 1830, and it didn't get the name Central Park until 1850... So someone gave you that fact wrong... And the stone spheres are rarely referred to as "Las bolas", but as "esferas de piedra precolombinas" or precolumbian stone spheres

I´m from CR and I don´t know what u see in San Jose, it really sucks if u compare it to other capitals in latin america. The city is not cleaned, homeless people everywhere, buildings are old and dirty, I´m even shocked how u were not mugged. I assume you were with a local.... the saddest thing is that you discovered all of that in a month and it is not even pretty xD dont get me wrong, I love my country but I have to say that SAN JOSE is not the prettiest thing, I would rather go to the caribbean or Guanacaste where the real stuff is!

Just a fact the independence day was signed in October 29th ,1821. People here are taught that the independence day was signed in September 15th 1821 but that is in fact the Guatemalean independence day. The proves of it is that the independence constitution is kept in a maximum security counter in the National Register or Registro Nacional. This info is only known for historians or some law students or lawyers. And the Goverment don't even care of giving the real info , for them it's not important and that's why most people don't know this and many other important facts of Costa Rican history.

Check up on your facts Central American independence was not declared in Costa Rica. The independence of central America was declared in Guatemala by the Spanish them self's , when they scummed to a couple of farmers making noise, gathering out side the "Capitania " (Spanish military head quarters of the central american states ), led by Gabino Gainza a weak willed, spanish military sub inspector.
