Ali, Thank you very much for your videos. I am in my second year of medical school and so far adopting spaced repetition and active reading have changed my studies. I am more productive, organized and confident of what I learn. I am fully invested in notion and use of google sheets for topics and revision schedules. Currently am at 1.8X on podcasts, and i don't miss a thing Amazing things happen when we just push ourselves a little from the familiar comfort

Love the video, Ali, but it's important to include the costs behind these apps. Instapaper is $30/year (USD) otherwise you're limited to just 5 highlights/notes per month. Readwise is $95/year (USD) if you want the Notion integration.

Nowadays I use them so often that I don't even notice it anymore, but it's nice to remember that it's all thanks to you Ali. Here's a simpler system that I use: when I have an insight, I just open up the Google Assistant and say "Note to self..." and then dictate the insight in my own words, which I find is often more helpful then reading other people's words - I record why it was meaningful to me. Also the process of dictating helps me clarify and reenforce the insight.

Thank you for this comment. 'Simpler' is better for me as well. Technology is great. There's always something new to learn - how fun! But as a writer, I find it very distracting to the core of the work. I still make notes in my journal. There's just something about writing, a thought or a quote, out by hand that stimulates the brain and pushes the story..

Hey there. I just wanted to get in touch to say thank you for recommending the Readwise app and raving about Kindles. On a sad note my Dad has terminal cancer, but on a plus note I have been saved by your recommendations. When I am sat with him I automatically pull out my Kindle to read and am enjoying the ability to get lost in a book, I've read so much more as a result as well. When I am back home I love writing out quotes from the Readwise app and after I've saved them on my Kindle. It has reignited a love of fountain pens, ink and using a Stalogy Commonplace book.(Not yet ready for Notion!) Your video made a huge difference to my life and has helped me to find some peace at a very difficult time. Thanks Ali. I hope you read this.

I am a fellow Readwise user as well. I have it synced to Notion and Roam Research. A tip: you can send highlights from PDFs of journal articles (e.g., for university) via Readwise. Just make sure you are using a PDF reader that actually registers the highlights and doesn't just place transparent colour over the text.

@@BakrAli10 on my phone, I installed termux and added some packages like Nvim, fish, mc, sqlite, postgres, lua, rsync, pdftools. (also has apps for git and GitHub.) Most important thing is the general style of work. try to use split screen or tile view. That really improves productivity. Sometimes I write with fountain pen and take a photo of the page. Later, i copy the notes with keyboard (text editor on left side, photo on right side). My honest recommendation is Unix utilities. They are not hard to learn and they don't really change. we can use them creatively for a lifetime.
