Surf might be one of the hardest and most unintuitive games ever, but it also feels most rewarding. Gj for putting this info out here and tearing down gatekeeps for future surf pros 😎

I’ve been a t1/t2 grinder who hasn’t really expanded their map pool past more than 100 maps and only recently started learning saveloc + turnbinds in all about 1600 hours. I’m the prime example of someone who had held themselves back. For the most part: challenging myself beyond tops on these low tier 40 second linears, learn binds n saveloc, and immersing myself within a more competitive environment such as low tick rate / ksf. That’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed my time in surf, I think I’m a more community oriented surfer who loves hanging out on these high pop low tier servers for hours rather than actually trying to really challenge myself. I love the friends I’ve made and connections I have but yeah, it’s a giant reality check when I throw myself into actually difficult things and can’t do anything ☠️☠️☠️ it feels like I have 200hrs on surf when I actually go to something harder. It’s tough to stay motivated, but here’s to improvement. Sorry for writing a mf essay but all I have to say is to newer surfers: Know what type of player you’re becoming or want to become, and take the steps to get there. It will reflect on your consistency a lot in the future. BUT ALSO it’s really not that deep and just have fun w it, anything to keep your motivation up is most important not cap. Don’t be a jackass who “RETIRES” from surf 7 times a year 💀💀💀 Love you surf community, keep slidin those triangles. ❤️

spitting facts. i honestly undervalued just surfing on a pub server and listening to people. Its a ton of fun and the most authentic surf experience. I think going forward im going to recommend new surfers still chill on CSGO and experience the good times, try 64/66t when they're ready for something more

I remember one time Repster was on surf_drift, stuck on s1. Kept having trouble with the end of the stage. Then someone in chat said to go back and practice in saveloc again. Next try he does it. A few minutes later the map is done. True story. Trust saveloc

Something that definitely needs to be talked about is how decent/intermediate players can get to the next level. G1 summit on ksf vs G2 have an insane skill gap, it's not even close. How do I go from getting 2000 u/s on 4th ramp on summit, to getting 2050? This is what is currently haunting me. edit: obviously summit was just an example but it would be cool to see this covered broadly as a topic.
@Repster2 жыл бұрын
wow that one in particular, i would really want to have a pro talk with me. or even just have them explain and show, then chop it up. levi/tucks/manana explaining just a few ramps in depth? Could be priceless
@obsiPog11 ай бұрын
@@Repsterwe need this, I’m starting to comp t5 (maybe some t6) and boarding + exiting is so deep and situational. Would be cool to have someone like Levi or whoever is good at explaining the art of ramping and maybe the type of boards/exits(flicks?) that are used most. I feel like surf is a lot of instinct (loccing it enough as well) or just not thinking about why something works type shit. But idk it might be different from map to map

look at them sweet effects and overall quality. Great video. Btw: I would add to learn turnbinds as early as possible and not be like me, learning them 1k hours in. It allows lower mouse sense and some spins aren't possible without.

One argument against moving on to the next tier: you can still improve by aiming for better times or more optimum routes
@WingsOfADream12 жыл бұрын
It's no coincidence all the old gods of CS were also holders of WRs in both surf and bhop. I would also say the 2 things that changed my skill in TF/CS the most after over 10K hours: -owning and running a private/public bhop/surf server with access to console and mods -learning to design and make maps, learning hammer and knowing odd tricks you can utilise think 10x airspeed control but for all classes (similar to using mantreads) restoring player viewheight bug (you can get this while playing demo knight) basically makes you crouch and uncrouch 100s of times a min maps that keep your point of aim on teleport vs maps that set it to be parallel with the groun or staring straight up or down (don't ask why) ;3 changing variables like max speed (3500hus) getting an autostrafe plugin fov modification trails are nice I cound go on endlessly... you learn a lot in 10K hours of surf/bhop

Hey I’m considering setting up a surf server for some friends but mainly personal use on a Debian machine I have. Are there any resources or topics you’d recommend to read up on that covers this(including plugins that’s commonly used and good practices)? Also I’ve been familiar with surf for a number of years now however I’d still say my knowledge is that of a beginner. Is there some sort of wiki/repository of the skills one needs to learn and improve upon throughout the different tier levels as opposed to purely self discovery from trial and error?

Hi, I just started surfing on and off a couple of months ago. So far I've been jumping into a T1-T3 server, and I have beaten some stage and a few linear maps. Not that many though. I'm enjoying it very much so far. I want to be better because I can easily tell that there are maps that are way above my league. So these tips come in handy. But about that saveloc thing, does it work in online servers? Also, how do I know which servers are using the correct settings? I have played some maps in one server that felt way easier than in another server, and I think it's because they haven't updated their gravity or airaccelerate settings for that particular map.
