I am a CPA. Never, never turn down bookkeeping work. Never. And demand top dollar for it. Always promote the benefits to your client to having a CPA do the bookkeeping and tax work for the sake of accuracy and monthly tax planning. If you wean your clients while marketing, and can achieve 50 clients at $500 a monthly plus Management Advisory Services, tax planning and tax fulfillment, you can make well over $400K a year.

Salaries are way off unless this was made in 1997, not 2017. I'm a controller and make $105k annually. I don't know any controllers in my industry who make under $85k a year Most mid-level accountants/financial analysts also typically make from $60k-$75k a year.
@Txcowboy806 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I'm currently entering accounting classes for a career change but didn't like the numbers this guy was stating. I currently make 60k but with no advancement in sight. I figured accounting would have a better outlook as far as pay scale.

Seth Ford How long did it take you to get to where you are??
@MorbidEverlasting6 жыл бұрын
I think using minimal figures gives people a negative but realistic outlook on their career path. I only make $18k a year working part time at UPS, so making 45k is a huge step in the right direction for me in terms of making more money. But if I can become CFO (although that is surreal) then I could potentially make $700K+compensation. Unfortunately, what I learned in this cruel reality; don't expect your employer to pay you what you think what you are worth, especially if you have a family to take of. But that does not mean the fight is over. Always plan for the worst and be happy doing it.

Hi Seth, are you currently living in the States?

I know this is just content but these salaries are off. There are a few positions he left out as well. Just remember location makes a big difference. An Accountant/Staff Accountant is pretty (entry level) and is usually $45-65K. A Senior Accountant/Accounting Supervisor (mid-level/entry level management) is typically $60-80K. An Accounting Manager/Finance manager/Assistant Controller (mid-level management) is somewhere in the $80-100K range. A Controller (Senior-level management)can be $85-125K and CFO (Executive-level management) $100-250K. Which title you hold depends on the industry, location and whether the company is publicly traded mat matter as well. Most people who have CPA's or MBA's can be any of these but they are usually after the entry level titles. Auditors are not even the same thing. They don't even deal with anything other than reviewing the information after the fact. They are mostly theory, no practical application. I hope this doesn't come across as negative but I have been around for about 12 years and I started form the bottom and I also analyze payroll so I get to see everyone's pay.

GREAT overview! Plan on using in my Financial Accounting class this fall as an introduction to the profession!! I can talk about it until I am blue in the face. Having come from the Big 8 (now Big 4) and starting a number of businesses I have lots of experiences to share. But you, the "expert", defined as being over 50 miles away and presenting intelligent content, will help inspire my students. Thank YOU!!!
He said that Bookkeepers and Accountants are not the same thing. He said this on the context that most people see no difference between the two. Because Accountants can do Bookkeeping too. Basically, Accountants are on a much high tier than Bookkeepers.

Where did the salary figures come from? Sounds like earnings from my grandpa's days. Here is industry accounting salary in Australia(Sydney and Melbourne) as at 2022, and based on your experience you can expect to earn within the range given below. Bookkeeper salary range is $40k-55k (minimum hold certification in bookkeeping ) Junior accounts staff salary range: $50k-60k (hold certificate IV or diploma in accounting and mostly experience) Accountant salary range: $60k-70k (bachelor's degree in commerce/business and majoring in accounting) Senior accountant salary range:$70k-80k (minimum 3 years work experience) Accounts payable/receivable team leader: $70k-90K (depends if teams get too large then this roles is created) General Accounts Manager: $80k-105k (salary depends if studying towards completing CPA/CA or has already completed, the size of the organization and yrs as a manager) Senior manager/financial director: $100k-125k (based on the size of the company and growth) Assistant Controller: $125k-150k ( depends on the company size and the performance of a company in comparison to pervious year) Controller: $150k-$400k (based on company size and annual company growth) CFO role is completely different from Controller thus it is hard to become one as a controller. The most effective route is through FP&A. Most of the CFOs in AU earn within $250k to $800k but in a well established company or top 500 fortune companies it can go up to $4million.

After watching this video my main question would be, do I need to hire a firm to do CPA and controller work? Is it common practice for a CPA to handle the controller work as well?
@Ignitespot6 жыл бұрын
A CPA can do both, however, you may be paying a high hourly price for your controller work. If you're a large enterprise or considering going public, then it would make sense. Otherwise, you could get someone without a CPA license to act as your controller as long as they have a strong education and several years of experience in the role.

It's not wrong. It's necessary to fix the problems of bookkeeping. Ie. adjusting entries to realign with generally accepted accounting principles. It's often more work to reverse entries etc. to fix the issues and in the long run this will cost the business more money for CPA hours.

Do accountants need to go out and meet the clients?
@CPACareerPaths4 жыл бұрын
It depends what kind of accounting you are doing and where you are working. If you work in private accounting as a staff accountant, you don’t have to travel to meet clients as you just work for one company. If you work in public accounting, you don’t go out and meet clients very often if you do tax while you will go out and meet clients very often if you do audit.

Under the last of the 5 types of accountants he describes CPA's as the TAX "GUY". You must be kidding. In this day ? I've been a consultant for 45 years, the first 5 I spent the whole month of November every year attending the AICPA TAX INSTITUTE at the Waldorf in NYC. I am 76 now, retired, and back when I was in my 30's, 1,000 CPAs attended, 999 Male and me. Yes, I was the one and only female attending. Today, the best CPA's are female in my opinion. Shame on this speaker. Really an ignorant person.
