Roger did have his own band and was the lead singer, The Cross, check out the album "Mad Bad and Dangerous to know". Roger had a few albums with them, also he had a solo career with several albums. He released a box set called the Lot with most of his stuff on it. He has just previewed a new song called, Gangsters rule the world, check it out.

There were at least three versions of "Who Wants to Live Forever", the movie version (Freddie), the video (Bryan, then Freddie) and the live version, Freddie). Each version is very different. Not only because of the singers, but also which instruments were used and the chorus in the video version. I love them all.

@Motown-1966
@Motown-1966 5 жыл бұрын
Ta H... That was because of the frequency he was made to sing with stacked concerts. The man did over 700 concerts in his career singing most of their songs live with a few exceptions like "I'm in Love with my Car." He'd developed those pesky vocal nodules from abusing his vocal cords from over use AND smoking. He sounds great during the front leg of concerts and often times sounded really bad (for him) during those last leg of tours.

Totally! I guess I didn't include ABTD because it's only that small section of the song; while the songs on my list require constant singing on those crazy notes. Throughout the entire song, and not only a small part. But that line you mention has an E5, I think. It's like on of the highest, if not the highest note Freddie sang in his "chest voice". He sounds so so amazing in there. I'd definitely sound like a cat struggling to breathe if trying those. Thanks for the comment, appreciate it :)

Also Spread Your Wings, Save Me and My Fairy King deserve a mention and Under Pressure is definitely a difficult song when you have to do both the Bowie and Freddie parts like when they do it live. Queen's songs are the main argument that I would use against anyone saying Freddie couldn't sing the whole song live. He would've fucked up his voice. However, in rare occasions like Live Aid, he didn't have to save his throat and the number of songs was only a 6 (some of which were cut short) and we saw what he could do when he sang his ass off. Had Freddie had around only 2 or 3 songs to sing in a show each night, he would've sung the shit out of them.

From 1974 on Queen did 50-100 concerts per year, occasionally even two gigs per day - an afternoon concert and an evening concert (!) - which is crazy! Freddie Mercury who was extremely self consciously about his teeth didn't fix them because he was too worried that this would even just slightly alter his voice. Of course he wouldn't ruin his voice by doing every high note every time live.

This is so interesting to hear what the challenges are from the singer’s point of view. I greatly appreciate Freddie and even more so after watching your video. The idea of writing a song intentionally or not to challenge a singer is not surprising but inspiring. Would you consider doing another video to evaluate how the current singer for Queen handles this very difficult job ? I hope the conversation looks to what he does well and not that he is not worthy compared to Freddie because each performer is unique.

Very interesting - enjoyed the video! I'm also a Meat Loaf fan - actually "spoke" a duo with him on stage in "The Storytellers" Tour in my city. I've heard Meat say that when he was cast as Eddie in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" he was told, "Don't worry if you can't get all the words in for "Hot Patootie." Meat asked why that would be an issue and was told the music was so fast that no one could get all the words in. Meat immediately began singing it with all the words. Freddie Mercury & Meat Loaf - Both approximately the same age - both began their careers around the same time. Meat is still performing and, unfortunately, Freddie is gone.

Great video! 5:49 - Trope means "a word or expression used in a figurative sense." You're looking for "ballet troupe." 6:07 - "Pronunciate" is not a thing. It's "pronounce." Freddie chose the name Larry Lurex as an insult to glam-rocker Gary Glitter, who he despised. He changed Gary to Larry and chose Lurex as that's the name of a "glittery" metallic yarn and fabric from which a lot of glam-rockers had costumes made.

Very interesting analysis; I agree that many of Queen's songs are not meant to be sung by the average singer; it's no wonder I've loved them since I first heard them wayyyy back in the early '70s.

Totally. Even Queen rarely performed Its Late live. And it’s one of their few songs that is better in the studio version. Too hard even for Queen! Wow.

Although you had many good mentions, I think you should have mentioned the songs “nevermore” and “the fairy feller’s master-stroke” from what I’ve experienced with those two songs is that you need the ability to go from chest voice to falsetto and back to chest voice without cracking. Great video btw

The first time my Mum brought the DVD of the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, she called me from my room and told me, “Come and watch this if you want to learn how to sing. ” I have been practicing and trying to sing some songs and go out of my comfort zone. However I know that I can't reach the high notes. 🎶 I do try to go as high as I can and that's usually in falsetto. So, thank you Mr Freddie Mercury for your great contribution to music and your great voice. Thanks to you I'm trying to sing better. RIP. Hope I become a professional singer just like you in future.

Picking 6 songs in this category is like idk, trying to name a favorite song by the beatles. I'm not the greatest vocalist by any means, but back in the day I could sing a song like far bottomed girls just pretty darnn good. There are just soooo many queen songs, and Freddie was such an extraordinary vocalist, so diverse. He put so much expression into every single word. Watch "killer queen" or "under pressure" from the 1981 Montreal concert and notice his breathing. He could inhale for just a split second and then sing for 12 seconds. The speed and phrasing in "dead on time", the pain and passion in "jealousy" Staying power Princes of the universe Gimme the prize Spread your wings My melancholy blues Brighton rock Bring back that Leroy Brown Seeet lady Love of my life There are so many different reasons a song may be difficult. It would be hard for me to compile a list as small as 50. FM Wow

The thing about Innuendo is that because it's higher, you can go into your mixed voice, but The Show Must Go On is right in the middle of chest and mixed, so it's super difficult. As an alto, I feel like I want to die.
