Its not a question of whether we need better, its a question of if we can find and get them. At the moment hes a good platform to build upon, and it gives the club the chance to focus on more pressing areas.

Son is first choice at LW. Will we pay top $ for someone to be Son’s backup, or someone to be better than Son? We have not seen much of Solomon to determine whether is he better than Werner.

Unfortunately the more I saw of Werner, the less convinced I’ve become. He is very much like a deer in headlights and defensively well below expectations . Accepting that Johnson is the project player for future, I don’t believe we can have both of them. A driving left winger to assist Son is imperative.

Werner at Spurs: 13 games, 2 goals, 3 assists Luis Diaz at LFC this season: 37 games, 8 Goals, 5 assists Not too bad for Werner in comparison?

To add: With Sonny being the preferred LW (with hopefully an incredible striker to come and Richarlison backing that position up) and with Soloman to come back from injury also, having Werner in the wings could be a good back up for us?

@@DougieL yes agreed that stats are good, it’s just he is too easily dispossessed, especially up the field, in tackles and his defensive duties are average at best. Also upfield he is quite stagnant and more reactive rather than pro active and he is very timid running into the box to meet any possible cross and always remains behind the full back on the far post instead of getting in front for a possible shot. He just needs intent.

@@EmmGee-pele77 Hearing you. We have been spoilt on the left (Sonny / Bale... (Who is going to ever be better than Bale?)...). But, if Solomon comes good and is competing with Son, because we have signed a solid striker up top, then if Werner for the price is somebody we call on as a sub and as cover for a European tie against a lesser club, it could warrant a sign? Time will tell I guess? (Plus of course, do we have youth breaking through to cover that spot?)
