I've got a few ideas to create an emmersive experience. Step 1: Setup curtain rods spanning all four walls of a room. Hang black velvet curtains from ceiling to floor covering all walls. Step 2: Get the room comfortably cold, around 60f/15c. Step 3: Burn a small amount of Pine tree sap to create that camp fire smell in the room. This also happens to be my secret recipe for scenting my clothes. I have a walk in closet where I'll burn different tree saps as incense to smoke the whole room. The smoke smell stays on my clothes for weeks. People are always asking me why I smell like a camp fire. I tell them its my cologne 😁. Step 4: Use large 10" bluetooth speaker to play nature sounds very softly from behind the curtain. Step 5: Set a 4k TV on the floor playing a crackling fire video. Step 6: Make some "Bears Milk", the perfect cold weather drink. If having guests perhaps also make some Chicken Paprikash. Step 7: Dark Skys DS1 BABY! Step 8: Invite other people to come enjoy the experience with you.

Nice! I bought mine just over a year ago, love it... I have a white ceiling in my bedroom and at night with zero lights and my window completely shut with a dark, thick velvet curtain it darkens my room 100% top it off with natural mountain ambiance sounds(creeks, owls and crickets, etc.) on a seamless loop... it’s a the closest you can get to sleeping out in the open under the stars! This looks like a very high quality realistic beautiful piece BUT for over $600 I want this to have at least the coverage on my walls as my cheapie bliss lights. The bliss lights is obvi fake but it has a twinkly magical feeling. If I am paying a small fortune I better get a magical encompassing feeling. If someone could combine this with the blisslights coverage and color saturation and twinkle and movement they could easily take my money.

I received mine today after looking at it for years. And I didn't realise the night light thing wasn't there anymore. Nicely done video. But you yourself said it. It's a lamp. I personally don't care to see humongous amounts of non twinkling star charts, and to add insult, they randomly throw in a shooting star. I have to agree with others. It basically a disk projection for yikes-land pricing. If I had money to burn, sure! But at 18 times the price of many popular units. I'll save this money for much more practical purchases.

@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын
Yea, it actually worked out ok on my concrete ceilings, as long as you can remove most of the light should be fine, but will be best on a lighter/white surface! The projector comes with the 4.1 million star chrome disc, which is "arguably" one of the best ones, or at least the highest resolution one because of the materials.

Julian, you rock. My initial thoughts are that I wonder if this has any 3-D effect that the Galaxy 2.0 Projector has? On the Galaxy projector, the nebula appears with some slight depth with the stars. It's not a huge effect, but it's definitely there, and it definitely improves the experience a lot. From what I can see with the first scene you show (and btw, it's awesome that you have a room with windows and outside light, because I was wondering if it would work in such an environment - and it seems that it does), it looks like a very high quality planetarium type of projection, which provides and awesome atmosphere to escape, de-stress, etc... I guess my only concern is that if you are investing this kind of money, how much use are you going to get out of it? With the cheaper projectors, I turn them on while chilling in the room watching movies. So they provide a very nice background and some immersive experience for a movie. This seems like a much higher-end experience that is more for being a primary focus - in other words, it might be overkill if it's just going to be used as casual background. If however, you are going to be lying on a bean bag chair listening to some music or some meditation or some other private activities, then I think it's a very useful luxury. One other thing it might be very useful for is having a couple friends over for a drink or smoke, and having a super-sweet environment. I'd probably drop $300 on it right now, but the current price seems a bit steep, but that's just my personal opinion because I probably wouldn't use it as much as other folks might. If I was having friends over on a regular basis, I'd buy at current price immediately. Thanks so much for showing us these products!!
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. I agree for the most part. A lot to spend for majority of folks, myself included. Maybe to use ideally as an every night night light perhaps! For about $300 I would go with the Sega Flux which I've also done a video on that is very close to this in effect. The only problem is you do need a rather dark environment. A niche product for sure!

Does the projected image fill the entire room or is it contained within a defined circle?
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын
The projection size is relative to the distance of the surface it's projected at. In theory it'd be possible if you could distance the projector enough. It's got fairly wide coverage at a short throw, but it won't fill an entire room like your thinking (unless it was a dome like roof maybe!). Hope this helps!
@MeritaKing13 жыл бұрын

So should I buy dark sky’s ds1 projector or the sega flux what one is more realistic and brighter
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын
I have a video on the flux as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3qrpIhspqaFfJo (price links in description) basically, flux is brighter and half the price, while DS1 offers the higher res disc.

Such an amazing piece of tech. Super smart of them to offer different plates to slide in, since that means new ones can come out time and again. (Brilliant way for them to make money from repeat customers.) I'm looking for ambient projection I can do while livestreaming, which means I need to have a projector strong enough to compete with key-lighting. Because of that, this isn't quite for me (for work at least), but for off-stream ambiance? Wow. It's gorgeous. Thanks for putting so much effort into your reviews! The editing and quality are stellar. ;)
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын

Is the Dark Skys DS1 still the best one? I want to get one of these galaxy projects but I dont want to get one that looks all blurry. Or atleast one that is least blurry compared to others.
@TomVega3 жыл бұрын
I would have liked this more if the disc images weren't static like a classic 70's ViewMaster toy. A 3D rotating visual like nebulas and starts moving behind planets would offer a more dynamic experience. One shooting star zipping by in the same straight line every few minutes will quickly lose its novelty. Give me motion and I'm a buyer.

Great video. I'd never heard of this company before. This projector seems to be high quality. How much ceiling coverage could I expect in a 14'x12' room with 12' tall ceilings? Anyone know? Can't seem to find an answer to that on the Dark Skys website.
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын
It should cover the majority of the ceiling. In some of the first shots with the stormy nights disc is was roughly the same size room projected onto 18' ceilings, being about 12' away from the ceiling. So in theory if you had the projector on the floor it should cover a fair bit if not all the ceiling. If you need an absolute answer I'd suggest trying to contact Dark Skys
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын
Also remember, works best with a white ceiling/surface, and needs next to complete darkness to work well. The Sega Flux is a great alternative at almost half the cost and is a bit brighter - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3qrpIhspqaFfJo (price links in description)

in your opinion, would a projector playing a starscape be better ?

No, although the word "better" is relative, certainly wouldn't give nearly the same effect, coverage, or realism.

The reason why the second run is more expensive as this is the Chrome plated model, the 1st model was just base metal. My biggest disappoint is a lot and I mean a lot of disks are sold out, so are you buying just the less popular / good disks?
@FUTURESPACECOLLECTIVE3 жыл бұрын
Ah ok! Didn't know that! I also think a part of the reason the unit overall is expensive is due to the small volume limited runs currently (I briefly mention in the video). I'm sure if these were being manufactured at a volume of 5x - the price would be able to come down. Right now they're all assembled in the US. As for the discs I was told the Stormy Sky and the Eagle Nebula were two of the most popular discs (as show in the vid!) I really loved the Saturn disc and wish I could've tested a lot more.

How high are your ceilings? Does the projection would better if aimed on an angle at a wall/ceiling, or does that throw the perspective off and look a bit odd?

My ceilings are about 10 ft, the projection works best on a white surface in a dark room. Angles are fine!
