I tried BF1 this morning on my wife's Gateway with an i3-2120, 6 GB of system memory, and a 1 GB Radeon 7750. It actually works if you stick to low settings to prevent VRAM and system RAM oversaturation. Cape Verde is still a pretty capable GPU, it just needed more VRAM.

Malek Kmeid Optimization. Games are specifically optimized to use the hardware to its max. Its easy to optimize games on consoles because of universal hardware. Almost all the Playstation 3's are gonna have the same CPU, & GPU, & Ram type, so game developers can make a game for PS3 use the hardware to its max.

A PC of that caliber in the early 2,000's would of cost $1,600-$1,700 minimum. mid 2,000s possibly.for a decently priced one. Same reason why a 980Ti/390x will still be able to run games 10 years from now (at seriously gimped settings, but same nonetheless).

Games that were built to efficiently use all 6 usable cores really pushed the boundaries, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a 2008 game and looks amazing (granted, with small environments). I'd say it looks better than MGS 5 on PS3. Most multi-format games were ported from the 360 though, and generally didn't make use of all the cores, so weren't as good. The PS3 was a really powerful console on paper though.

nikobellic63 I can also confirm that it was $600 at launch as well as a $500 model without wifi and with a 20GB hard disk, it also lacked the front i/o ports and only had 2 USB ports instead. I didn't have wifi and opted for the 20GB version myself, but I do remember it was $599 for the wifi/60GB model.

consoles don't use as much RAM as PCs. Even both PS4 and XOne have 8GB shared between system and GPU, while most modern gaming PCs of today have at least 8GB (not enough for latest games) for the system alone and a GPU with 4GB or 8GB.

I think that the biggest issue with a console is the lack of an upgrade path and game support. With the PC you built you can play any game you want and upgrade as well when needed, instead of having to buy the new console. Good video! You are awesome man, keep it up!!

You're forgetting that console games are still quite a bit more expensive than PC ones. Plus there are more games on huge discounts on Steam and reseller sites than for console which is why in conclusion it's better to build a budget PC because it will be worth your money in the long run instead of finding cheap PS3/XBOX360 console but then spend a lot of money on buying games. Then there's also p2p torrenting and playing cracked games on PC unlike consoles where you have to have original game..if you don't want to hassle or know how to jailbreak that is.

Actually many games on ps3 run at sub-hd resolutions like 640p. Especially third party title which were developed for the 360. It's a nice system, tho. There's still a bunch of games I want to play on it and haven't had the chance yet.

You could also argue that the PC has a larger hard drive, and more I/O, and a desktop operating system with desktop apps and programs, the ability to stream in 4k if desirable, which all probably beats out a blu-ray drive for 95% of the world. As long as you have internet, if you didn't the PC would be a brick compared to the ps3.

Keir Griswold yes, the hardware does allow for the PC to decode compressed 4K files, but I would have to correct myself since I do not know the I/O of the gpu and if it has a display port or not, since whatever version of hdmi would not do 4K, but I know it at least has a dvi port so it will do at least 1440p video. The greatest part of blu rays is the improved audio, compressed streaming files vs blu ray people won't see too me visual differences, but the sound will be very noticeable. You can upgrade the PS3 hard drive but you are limited to a 2.5 inch hdd running slower than the most likely 3.5 inch faster one in the PC, but he didn't specify the hdd, but 3.5 7200 rpm hdd's are the same price as 2.5 5200 rpm ones. Personally I don't care about a blu ray drive, I'd rather download a high quality video file with an overall good audio codec, and an external amp and Dac to good headphones or speakers. Speaking of which the PS3 doesn't support many audio files such as FLAC and other lossless codecs, so video sounds will be good, but music listening experience will suffer.

Only from the same generation does that always hold true.. A GT 750m is a much better card than a GTX 8800 (the best card you could get about 10 years ago) and on par with a GTX 460m. A GTX 460 is still about twice as fast as a GT 640 though.

Ok, now I'm going to say something that nobody wants to hear. Although pc's are by far more powerful and useful than consoles, they however aren't my favorite way of play. I'd rather sit down and play an overpriced, crappy piece of metal with my friends than play a high tech beast by myself. My friends all deny getting PCs, so I just go with the flow.

uhh the Cell processor in the PS3 had 7 active stream processor cores (as opposed to 8 in a Blade server) in addition to a single PowerPC core, so technically it has an 8 core CPU. the GPU in the PS3 IS a 256mb 7800GTX, the Cell CPU is a whole different beast from x86 CPU's: it's stream processors are like 7 massive very very complex Cuda cores on a newer Geforce GPU. Fun fact: the Xbox 360 has a 3 core PowerPC CPU, and a hybrid DX9/DX10 GPU based on an early prototype of the ATI 2900 XT.

I've had my ps3 for 7 years and I still use it to this day, I have a decent pc (i5 6600k, gtx 960) but there's something about a system that had my entire child hood on it that makes me love the old fucking thing. Earlier this year I had moved my ps3 to my pc setup and I've used it so fucking much it's insane.

To be honest I did the similar thing where I wanted lowest possible gaming rig that beats console but after a few years when everything moved about you will be stuck with a slide show presenter and ending up rebuilding a new pc. If you gonna go cheap go console, if you wanna go with a small bang pc, or go boom with both

great vid as always. i was a ps3 OG 60gb owner then moved onto ps4 didn't like paying to play online so switched to a low spec pc i5 2500, gtx 750Ti, 8GB DDR3 RAM which outperforms my ps4 for the meantime anyway. one thing i haven't liked about the switch to PC, its that i'm not good with mouse and keyboard in games, i much prefer controller and although controller is an option in some games im at a huge disadvantage since a majority will use mouse and keyboard.

Last gen consoles had INSANE optimization. I mean, if you try and run Rise of the Tomb Raider on a tri-core CPU from 2005, Radeon X1950 and 512 MB it's impossible on PC yet somehow the Xbox 360 manages (admittedly at low resolution and 25 FPS with all the graphics setting turned right down, but still). The problem with current-gen consoles is that they lack this "magical" ability to run games on "legacy" hardware. A PC will be able to match current-gen consoles much more easily than last-gen ones at similar price points. A note on the graphics card: if you'd have spent about £10 more you could've got a GTX 560 Ti 1GB, I have one to sell and CeX give only £18 for it!

Great Video! I'm impressed with the results of such a Cheap PC. I have an Xbox 360, PS4, and about a 3 to 4 year old Laptop that I can run a lot of New Games On; and PC very often demonstrates it's many advantages and cost effectiveness if you're smart about what you do.
